To loop a prerecorded relaxation video on YouTube Live, play it through OBS Studio and use OBS to send the broadcast to YouTube. For one video, add OBS’s Media Source and enable Loop. For a playlist, add VLC Video, load the files, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC handles playback; OBS is the encoder that connects to YouTube.
Choose the right OBS source

Check YouTube Live eligibility before setup
- Your YouTube channel must be verified.
- The channel must not have had live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to activate. Set up the channel well before the planned broadcast.

Set up the video loop in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. VLC is required for the VLC Video source. Match VLC’s architecture to OBS; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the relaxation stream, then add a source using the + control in the Sources panel.
- For a playlist, add VLC Video. Choose VLC Video, open its properties, and add the local video files. Arrange them in the order you want them to play, then enable Loop Playlist.
- For one file, use Media Source instead. Add Media Source, select the video file, and enable Loop. This is the simpler choice if you do not need a playlist.
- Choose hidden-source behavior deliberately. If you switch scenes, set the VLC Video visibility behavior to suit the stream: stop and restart, pause and unpause, or always play. Otherwise, playback may stop or continue unexpectedly when the scene is hidden.
- Check the preview. Confirm the video is visible and its audio is audible in OBS. If the relaxation video should be silent, verify that no unwanted source audio is reaching the stream.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create a stream or choose the one you prepared. Open the Live Control Room to see the stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose YouTube if it is available as a service and follow the connection prompts. Otherwise, enter the server URL from YouTube in OBS’s server field and paste the stream key into the key field.
- Keep the stream key private: treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in the Live Control Room before streaming again.
- Start streaming from OBS and check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before making the broadcast public or announcing it.
YouTube describes an encoder as the software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. OBS is the encoder in this setup; VLC Video is only the playback source. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and its live-streaming help.

Use compatible stream settings and test first
YouTube’s published encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS delivery, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR). It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. RTMPS encrypts delivery, so use it when available. Select a resolution and bitrate that match the source video and your available upload connection; a setting the connection cannot sustain can cause stream-health problems.
Before the real broadcast, test the same video, audio, OBS scene, and connection you plan to use. Check the YouTube preview and stream-health messages, and confirm that the loop continues after the file or playlist reaches its end. YouTube recommends testing representative motion and audio and monitoring stream health; see its encoder guidance.

Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
Only stream content you have the necessary rights to use. A video being available on YouTube does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast it as a live stream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream, and unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate it. Licensed third-party material may still require the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the creator to have the necessary rights for the live content worldwide. Read the YouTube Terms of Service and copyright guidance before using music, nature recordings, or other material you did not create or license for this use.

Plan the end of the broadcast and replay
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If you want a replay, plan the broadcast to stay under that duration and check YouTube Studio’s Live tab afterward. Do not assume a longer continuous stream will be archived automatically. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream archive help.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
- VLC Video is missing from the source list: Install VLC, then restart OBS. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC.
- The video plays once and stops: For a single file, check Media Source → Loop. For a VLC playlist, check Loop Playlist in the VLC Video properties.
- The stream goes black when changing scenes: Review the VLC Video source’s visibility behavior. Choose whether it should stop and restart, pause and resume, or always play while hidden.
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that OBS is streaming, the server URL and stream key match the selected YouTube stream, and the key has not been reset. Review YouTube’s stream-health messages.
- YouTube preview shows video but no sound: Check the OBS audio mixer and the source’s audio settings, then listen to the preview before going live.
- The stream is interrupted for a copyright match: Stop using the matched material unless you have the required rights and any applicable Content ID allowlisting. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
- The stream never becomes available for a new channel: Confirm verification and live-stream eligibility, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
