Design the card yourself, configure the render’s dimensions and format, then set the resulting image URL as og:image. How the Urlbox Open Graph workflow works
- Create the social-card design as a web page or HTML markup. Urlbox renders the content you provide; it does not automatically write the headline or create artwork for you. See Urlbox render options for supported inputs and settings.
- Configure a render link or make a server-side JSON API request, choosing output dimensions and format for the intended card.
- Use the render image URL as the value of your page’s
og:imagemetadata. - When the design changes, account for Urlbox’s render-link cache before expecting social previews to update.
Choose a render link or the JSON API

Set image dimensions, format, and crop
Urlbox documents width, height, and format as render options. Set them to match the image shape you intend to publish, and make sure the card design remains readable at that size.

Choose crop behavior deliberately. cover fills the requested dimensions by cropping; contain preserves the complete image and may leave a border filled by the background. Urlbox also documents a position setting to control the crop. Preview the result to check that the headline, logo, and focal image are not clipped.
Connect the render to Open Graph metadata
Put the generated image URL in the page’s HTML head. Replace the example URL with the actual Urlbox render link for your design:

Urlbox says render links are cached for 30 days by default and documents ttl and cache-busting options. When you update a card, use the documented cache controls to request a fresh render or use a changed URL when appropriate. Do not force regeneration on every page load for an image embedded in metadata: Urlbox warns that this regenerates the screenshot each time. Render links and caching

Use the JSON API when the render needs application logic
For HTML that is too large or awkward to represent in a render link, or when your application must control job handling, use Urlbox’s JSON API from a server. The precise request fields and authentication format should follow the current Urlbox quickstart and API-authentication documentation; do not put the project secret in client-side code. The documented API supports synchronous requests and asynchronous rendering with a status URL for polling, as well as webhooks.

- The preview still shows the old card: Render links cache for 30 days by default. Use Urlbox’s documented cache controls or a changed render URL, then check the preview again.
- The image is cropped badly: Check the requested width, height, crop mode, and position.

og:imagecontains the actual render URL and that the metadata is present in the page HTML. Also verify the render link itself returns the intended image. - The API request is rejected: Verify server-side authentication against Urlbox’s current API-authentication instructions and ensure the project secret has not been exposed or confused with another value.
- An asynchronous job has not finished: Follow the status URL returned for the job, or configure the documented webhook flow, rather than treating the initial asynchronous response as the completed image.
