What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use Tools → Color picker to choose a color by eye or enter a known value, then copy it in the format you need. To match a color already on your screen, use Tools → Screen color picker or the standard picker’s eyedropper: point at the pixel and left-click to sample it.
Choose or enter a color with the standard picker
- In ShareX, open Tools → Color picker.
- Choose a color in the large color field and slider, or enter a value in one of the fields. The color preview and displayed representations update as you change the color.
- Select a color mode—hue, saturation, brightness, red, green, or blue—to control which component the visual picker adjusts. Enter alpha alongside RGB values if you need transparency.
- To reuse a color, select it from the recent-colors or standard-color palette. The previous-color preview lets you restore the color that was active before your latest change.
- Open Copy and choose the representation your destination expects.
The standard picker offers All color details, RGB, Hexadecimal, HSB, CMYK, and Decimal. Hexadecimal is common in CSS and design systems; RGB is often convenient in image and desktop applications. HSB expresses hue, saturation, and brightness. Decimal represents the RGB value as one integer. ShareX’s CMYK output is a conversion for convenience, not a replacement for a printer or ICC profile in a color-managed print workflow. ShareX’s color picker guide describes the picker and its copy formats.

Sample a color already visible on screen
- Open Tools → Screen color picker, or open the standard Color picker and click its eyedropper button.
- Move the pointer over the target pixel. Use the magnified preview and its center square to identify the pixel under the pointer.
- Left-click to sample and copy the color. Right-click or press Esc to cancel without copying.
By default, a normal click copies hexadecimal, while Ctrl-click copies the RGB channels. If task-completion notifications are enabled, ShareX displays a notification confirming the copied text. See the Screen color picker guide for the screen-sampling controls.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Change the screen picker’s output or magnifier
Open Task settings → Tools to adjust the screen picker’s Format, Format (Ctrl + click), Info text, or Show magnifier options. The format fields accept tokens including $HEX, $r255, $g255, $b255, and screen-position tokens. Combine tokens with labels or punctuation to create output such as CSS-style values or comma-separated channels. You can also assign a hotkey to Screen color picker if you sample colors often. The documentation lists these options but does not specify a universal custom-format example; choose tokens and separators to suit the application where you will paste the result.

Which picker should you use?
| Workflow | Best for | What you copy |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Color picker | Choosing a color visually or entering a known value | All details, RGB, Hexadecimal, HSB, CMYK, or Decimal |
| Screen color picker | Matching a pixel currently displayed on screen | Hexadecimal by default on a normal click; RGB by default with Ctrl-click; both formats are configurable |
What a screen sample represents
The screen picker reads the pixel as displayed by Windows, not necessarily the original color value stored in an image or other source file. Transparent windows, video overlays, and color-managed applications can affect the final displayed pixel. At an anti-aliased edge, adjacent pixels may hold slightly different shades; zoom in within the source application and use the picker magnifier to target the intended pixel.
ShareX’s changelog entry for version 21.0.0, dated July 3, 2026, lists a “Pick color from screen” button in the color picker, a Copy dropdown with All, RGB, Hexadecimal, CMYK, HSB, Decimal, and Position, and screen-picker format options. If a control or menu differs, check which version is installed. ShareX changelog
