Apple Watch’s Readiness app turns recent activity, overnight vitals and sleep data into a 0–10 daily score. It is available to people aged 13 or older who use Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch Ultra 4. Set up your health and sleep data, wear the watch overnight for at least seven nights, then open Readiness on the watch to see your score and what is influencing it.
Which Apple Watch models support Readiness?
Apple lists Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 as compatible. The feature is for users aged 13 and older. If you have a different watch model, Apple’s current support information does not list it as eligible for this app.

Readiness is designed to help you understand your capacity for the day. It is not a medical assessment or a guarantee that a particular workout is safe.

- Add your Health Details: On your iPhone, open Fitness and enter your age, height and weight.
- Set up Activity: Complete the Activity setup in Fitness if you have not already done so.

What do the Readiness score and labels mean?
| Score | Apple’s label |
|---|---|
| 0–1 | Recover |
| 2–4 | Pace Yourself |
| 5–7 | Ready |
| 8–10 | Go For It |
Apple describes these bands as guidance about daily capacity. A “Go For It” result is not medical clearance, and a low result does not diagnose a health problem. The score does not account for every relevant factor, including existing conditions or medications. Consider how you feel and follow relevant advice from a health professional rather than using Readiness alone to decide whether or when to exercise.
What affects the score?
Activity
Readiness considers recent activity, including active calories, workout effort ratings and Training Load. Activity from the current day and recent history can affect the result. Apple says increased activity can lower the score, while steady or reduced activity can raise it.

Vitals
The app considers overnight heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature, heart rate variability (HRV) and blood oxygen, as well as heart rate measured during the day. It compares these readings with your recent baseline: metrics that are notably or slightly off can lower the score, while typical or favorable readings can raise it. Apple says the Vitals baseline requires sleep data from at least seven of the past 49 nights. Blood Oxygen availability can vary on certain Apple Watch models purchased in the United States.

Recent sleep-score data, including the previous night and recent history, also contributes. Low or inconsistent sleep can reduce the score.

Why is there no Readiness score?
Check Apple’s prerequisites one by one:
- Your Fitness Health Details include your age, height and weight.
- Activity is set up.
- Sleep tracking and Overnight Vitals are enabled.
- You wore a supported Apple Watch while sleeping for at least seven nights, including the previous night.
Apple’s Vitals baseline uses sleep data from at least seven of the past 49 nights. If a prerequisite is missing, complete it and continue wearing the watch overnight so it can collect the required data.
Why can the score change during the day?
Readiness updates as new data arrives. Apple identifies calories burned, naps and daytime heart rate as factors that can prompt updates; its announcement also gives an intense workout or a shift in daytime vitals as examples. Treat the displayed score as a changing snapshot rather than a fixed rating for the entire day.

What Apple says about how Readiness was developed
Apple says the Readiness algorithm was developed using data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study, in collaboration with Apple exercise scientists and physicians. Apple’s public materials do not provide an independent measured accuracy statistic or outcome result for the Readiness score itself. A separate Apple announcement reports a heart-rate sensor accuracy study with over 1,000 participants; that figure concerns sensor accuracy, not validation of the Readiness score.
