The ATEM Mini Pro can send a switched live program to a streaming platform in either of two ways: stream directly from the switcher over Ethernet, or connect its USB-C webcam output to a computer and stream through software such as OBS. Connect your HDMI sources, monitor them on multiview, configure the chosen path, and test the stream before going on air.
What you need
- An ATEM Mini Pro and its supplied power supply.
- HDMI cables and up to four HDMI sources, such as cameras or computers.
- For direct streaming: a CAT 5 Ethernet cable, a router with internet access, and a platform-issued stream key.
- For a computer workflow: a USB-C cable and a computer running streaming software, such as OBS.
- Optional: an HDMI display for multiview and external USB-C media for local recording.
The ATEM Mini Pro has four standards-converted HDMI inputs. Its USB-C connection can provide webcam output to a computer, while its Ethernet connection supports direct streaming. The HDMI output can display multiview on an attached monitor. See Blackmagic Design’s ATEM Mini technical specifications for device capabilities and check the current manual for your software and firmware version.

Connect the sources and set up monitoring
- Connect the supplied power supply and turn on the ATEM Mini Pro.
- Connect each camera or computer’s HDMI output to an ATEM HDMI input. Press the corresponding input button to select a source.
- For multiview, connect an HDMI display to the ATEM’s HDMI output and press M/V. Use the display to check input feeds, preview and program, and status indicators while switching.
- Confirm that each source’s video is visible and that the audio you expect is reaching the switcher. Check your camera’s output format and the current ATEM documentation if a source does not appear correctly.
Choose how to send the stream
| Workflow | Connection | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Direct from the ATEM | Ethernet from the switcher to the router | You want the switcher to stream without streaming software running on a computer. |
| Through a computer | USB-C from the switcher to the computer | You need streaming-software features such as computer-managed scenes, overlays, or platform integration. |
These are alternative ways to deliver the ATEM’s program. The official materials establish their different connection paths and functions, not a general reliability or quality advantage for either one.

Stream directly over Ethernet
- Get the platform’s current streaming details. In the platform’s live-stream setup, create or select the broadcast and copy its stream key. Use the server or ingest option specified for your platform and intended configuration; supported workflows can vary by platform, firmware, and software version.
- Connect the network. Run a CAT 5 Ethernet cable from the ATEM Mini Pro to an internet-connected router.
- Configure ATEM Software Control. Open its output settings, select the streaming platform, choose a server, and enter the platform-issued stream key. Blackmagic lists RTMP and SRT direct streaming support; follow the current platform and firmware guidance for the protocol and configuration you choose.
- Test before broadcasting. Send color bars or a standby graphic, then verify that it appears correctly on the platform. Check both picture and audio, along with the platform’s stream status, before switching to the live program.
- Go on air. Once the test and your platform’s broadcast setup are ready, start streaming using the current ATEM Software Control workflow. Confirm the live result at the platform rather than assuming that a successful local status means viewers can see it.
Blackmagic Design’s ATEM Mini support materials include the installation and operation manual. Its August 2024 manual describes configuring the platform, server, and stream key in ATEM Software Control, connecting to the router, and testing before going live. Labels and platform procedures can change, so consult the current manual and platform instructions.

Use the ATEM Mini Pro with OBS or other computer software
- Connect the ATEM Mini Pro’s USB-C port to the computer.
- Open OBS or your chosen streaming application and select the ATEM as the webcam or video-capture source. The switcher’s program output is then available to the software.
- Set up the platform stream in that software using the platform’s current instructions and stream key. Add any scenes, overlays, or other software-managed elements your production needs.
- Preview and test the complete output, including audio, before starting the broadcast from the computer.
Choose this route when the computer software is part of your production. Do not connect both paths on the assumption that both are required: direct Ethernet streaming and USB webcam output are distinct workflows.
Record a copy locally
The ATEM Mini Pro can record H.264 MP4 video with AAC audio to external media over USB-C. Blackmagic lists exFAT and HFS+ media support in its technical specifications.

- Connect compatible external media to the USB-C recording connection.
- Check the current Blackmagic documentation for the drive’s compatibility and available space, especially before an important recording.
- Start recording with the ATEM’s REC control and verify that recording has begun. Stop it when finished and confirm the file is present on the drive.
Check the broadcast before viewers arrive
- Verify that the intended camera or computer appears on the selected input and that switching changes the program as expected.
- Use multiview to check the sources, preview, program, and status indicators.
- Confirm the stream key and server match the current broadcast in the platform account.
- Watch the test on the platform and check picture and audio there, not only on the ATEM display.
- If recording locally, confirm the media is recognized and has enough free space.
- Check copyright and platform live-stream rules for the material you plan to show. Having permission to use a video, song, or other content is important; a stream key does not grant content rights.
Troubleshooting
The platform does not receive a direct stream
Check that the Ethernet cable reaches an internet-connected router, the selected platform and server are correct, and the stream key belongs to the broadcast you are testing. Re-enter a current key if the platform has issued a new one. Confirm the chosen protocol and configuration against current platform and firmware guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe computer does not show the ATEM as a source
Check the USB-C connection, then reopen the streaming application’s source settings and select the ATEM webcam output. Confirm that your computer and software recognize the device; use the current Blackmagic manual if the expected webcam source is absent.

A camera feed is missing or looks wrong
Check that the source is powered on, its HDMI cable is seated, and the correct ATEM input is selected. Verify the camera’s output format and consult the current device documentation for format compatibility.
The test appears but has no expected audio
Check the audio path at the source and switcher, then listen to the test stream on the platform. A picture appearing successfully does not by itself confirm that audio is present.
