Set sv_enforceGameBuild before the server starts to tell connecting FiveM clients which GTA V game build’s downloadable content (DLC) the server uses. Put sv_enforceGameBuild <build number> in server.cfg, or pass +set sv_enforceGameBuild <build number> at launch (including txAdmin’s Additional arguments), then completely stop and start FXServer. A resource restart or a console reload does not apply the change.
The official FiveM server-commands table is the authority for current build numbers. Examples documented there include build 2189 for h4, build 3095 for mp2023_02 (The Chop Shop), and build 3751 for A Safehouse in the Hills. Every newer build includes the content from earlier builds, so select the newest build your resources and clients can reliably support rather than guessing from an unofficial list.

What sv_enforceGameBuild actually changes
GTA V content is delivered in game builds. A FiveM server can require a particular build so clients load the DLC associated with that build while connecting to the server. This is the practical way to enable a DLC-dependent map, vehicle, clothing item or other resource that expects a later game version.

Because it is evaluated at startup, changing the line in a running server does nothing until the process is fully stopped and started again.

It selects DLC content, not a separate executable
Enforcing a build does not make a client run an old GTA V executable. The client still runs the latest stable game-build executable available to it; the enforced build determines which build’s DLC content is loaded for the server session. This distinction explains why a player can be on a current game installation while a server targets an older DLC set.
The default when you set nothing
If you omit the convar, the default base build is 1604. Resources that require content introduced after that build may therefore fail to load or behave incorrectly until the server enforces a suitable later build.
Newer builds are cumulative
Each newer build contains the content from earlier builds. You normally do not need separate declarations for every DLC release: one selected build covers the earlier content as well. The choice should still be deliberate, because moving to a newer build can expose compatibility problems in custom clothing, maps, vehicles or other resources.
Choose the build number from the official table
Use the build-to-DLC mapping in the official FiveM server-commands documentation, and recheck it when planning a change. Build numbers published in forums and hosting guides can lag behind or disagree with the official table.

The table is an example of documented values, not a permanent list. FiveM adds builds over time, so do not copy a number from an old tutorial simply because it appears familiar.

Handling conflicting numbers
Some community posts mention build 3788 as an “unnamed security update” dated March 17, 2026, and claim that builds 3717 and 3751 are interchangeable for A Safehouse in the Hills. The official table does not list 3788 and lists 3751 for that DLC. That newer number and the claimed interchangeability have not been confirmed here; use the official table until FiveM documents a different mapping.
Do not choose a build as a generic crash cure
A build change is a content-compatibility decision, not a universal repair. Test the maps, vehicles, clothing packs and scripts that matter to your server. A newer build can solve a missing-DLC problem while creating a problem in a resource that was authored or packaged for a different environment.

Plan the change as a server configuration deployment rather than an in-game toggle.
- Record the current
server.cfgand launch arguments so you can revert quickly. - Identify the DLC or resource that requires the new build and note its documented requirement.
- Check the official build table on the day you make the change; mappings can change as new builds arrive.
- Test custom clothing, map interiors, streamed vehicles and scripts on a staging server or during a maintenance window.
- Tell players when a restart will occur. The build is announced during connection, so players should reconnect after the server is back online.
Set sv_enforceGameBuild in server.cfg
For most self-managed servers, the configuration file is the clearest and most repeatable location.
- Open the
server.cfgused by the FXServer instance you actually launch. If you maintain multiple instances, confirm the file belongs to the intended port and data directory. - Add one line with the chosen number, for example:
sv_enforceGameBuild 3095- Save the file. Keep the value as a plain integer; do not add
+setto theserver.cfgform. - Fully stop FXServer. Starting a resource, executing a restart command, or reloading a resource list does not re-read this startup convar.
- Start FXServer again and allow the normal startup sequence to finish before asking players to reconnect.
Keep the selected value obvious
A short comment can make the reason for the value clear without changing the command:

sv_enforceGameBuild 3095When you later change the DLC target, update the comment at the same time. This avoids leaving an old explanation beside a new number.

Set it with a launch argument
You can provide the same convar when launching FXServer instead of placing it in the configuration file:
+set sv_enforceGameBuild 3095The argument must be part of the FXServer startup command or the process’s configured launch options. This is useful when a panel generates server.cfg for you or when you operate separate instances with different startup profiles.
Use txAdmin
- Open the server in txAdmin.
- Go to Settings > FXServer > Additional arguments.
- Add the complete argument, including the plus sign:
+set sv_enforceGameBuild 3095- Save the setting.
- Use txAdmin’s full stop action, then start the server again. Do not rely on a resource restart.
txAdmin’s field expects the launch-argument form. Entering the server.cfg form there can result in an argument that FXServer does not interpret as intended.
Use a hosting control panel
Some game-server panels expose a dedicated Game Build field under startup settings instead of asking you to edit a command line. If your panel provides that field, select or enter the required build there, save it, and perform a complete stop/start. The exact label and location vary by provider, so use the panel’s startup section rather than assuming it edits server.cfg.

The convar is in the startup-only category. A reliable change sequence is:
- Stop the FXServer process completely.
- Wait for the process to exit rather than immediately issuing a soft resource restart.
- Start the server with the updated configuration or launch arguments.
- Connect with a test account and exercise the DLC-dependent resource.
- Check the resources that were not part of the original change, especially custom clothing, streamed vehicles and map interiors.
If players still see the old content after a restart, first verify that you stopped and started the correct instance and edited the configuration or startup profile that instance uses. A frequently edited template file does not affect a server launched from a different data directory.
How the client experience works
The enforced build is a server requirement. Clients continue to use their latest stable game executable, while FiveM loads the DLC content associated with the server’s selected build for that session. You therefore do not instruct each player to install a separate executable for build 2189, 3095 or 3751.
Because newer builds include earlier content, a server targeting a later build can use resources from an earlier DLC release. The reverse is not true: selecting the base default of 1604 cannot provide DLC introduced in a later build.
Troubleshoot common failures
The setting appears to do nothing
- Only a resource was restarted: stop and start FXServer. The convar is read at process startup.
- The wrong configuration was edited: confirm the active data directory and instance, particularly when txAdmin or a hosting panel generates launch settings.
- The wrong syntax was used: use
sv_enforceGameBuild 3095insideserver.cfg, or+set sv_enforceGameBuild 3095as a launch argument. - The number is not the required DLC build: compare it with the current official table rather than an old forum post.
A custom clothing pack causes a crash
Enforcing a build can expose incompatibilities in custom clothing. One community forum report describes a crash after enforcing build 2612. That report is evidence of a possible compatibility failure, not proof that every server using 2612 will crash.
Revert to the last known-good build, confirm that the clothing resource is the trigger, and test the pack against the intended build in isolation. If the pack is essential, keep the older build until the asset is updated or replaced. Do not treat a clothing crash as evidence that the convar itself is broken.
A map or vehicle stops working
Maps and vehicles can depend on assets, limits or DLC assumptions that differ between builds. Disable or isolate the affected resource, test it on the selected build, and compare the result with the previous known-good build. A build that supplies the DLC you need may still require updates to dependent resources.
The server crashes after a build change
Roll back the convar to the last working value and restart fully. Then reintroduce the newer value on a test instance while enabling dependent resources in small groups. This narrows the failure to a resource or asset instead of assuming the build number is a general crash fix.
Community guides list a different number
Build lists age quickly and can contain transcription errors. Prefer the official FiveM table. In particular, treat claims about build 3788, or that 3717 and 3751 can be swapped for the same DLC, as unconfirmed unless the official documentation has adopted them.
Security claims and other misconceptions
Some community discussions attach security benefits to enforcing a game build, but those benefits have not been verified against an official source. Use sv_enforceGameBuild to satisfy a content and compatibility requirement, not as a promised security control.
The setting also does not force every resource to become compatible. It tells clients which DLC set to load; resource authors still need to support the resulting environment. Legacy-versus-Enhanced behavior has not been established sufficiently to make a blanket claim, so test the editions and assets you actually operate.

A repeatable change checklist
- Define the DLC or resource requirement.
- Find the matching number in the official FiveM server-commands table.
- Back up the active configuration and note the current build, if any.
- Choose exactly one configuration route:
server.cfg, the FXServer launch command, txAdmin Additional arguments, or the panel’s Game Build field. - Use the correct syntax for that route.
- Stop FXServer completely and start it again.
- Test the required DLC first, then clothing, maps, vehicles and other streamed assets.
- Keep the new build only if the required content and dependent resources work; otherwise roll back and investigate the incompatible resource.
- Recheck the official table before future upgrades, because build mappings and available builds change.
