To use split screen on a Samsung Galaxy Tab, open the first app, choose Open in split screen view from its Recents menu, and select a second app. Drag the divider to resize the two app areas. With Auto rotate enabled, turn the tablet to switch between portrait and landscape; the exact layout and controls depend on your model, software version, provider, and app compatibility.
Open two apps in split screen
- Open the first app, then tap Recents in the navigation bar.
- Tap the app icon above its preview and choose Open in split screen view.
- Select the second app from Recents or the Apps screen.
If Open in split screen view is missing, that app may not support the feature. Samsung notes, “Not all apps support split screen view.” Screen labels and settings may also differ by provider and software version; see Samsung’s Galaxy tablet split-screen instructions.

Choose portrait or landscape
Turn on Auto rotate, then rotate the tablet to the orientation you want. Portrait places the app areas in a taller, narrower arrangement; landscape gives a side-by-side arrangement more horizontal room. On the Galaxy Tab S8, Samsung documents that supported two- or three-app windows can be arranged horizontally or vertically and reposition with Auto rotate. Resize the split-screen areas
Drag the divider between the apps toward the app that needs more space. The available proportions depend on the screen and the apps in use.

Open Recents and close the split-screen view to return to using apps individually.
