selenium-stealth is a Python package that applies configurable browser-property changes to a Selenium Chrome or Chromium session. The documented workflow is to install the package, create a Chrome WebDriver, call stealth(driver, ...), and then navigate. It is not a universal detection bypass, does not hide your network identity, and is not documented for every browser Selenium supports.
What selenium-stealth does—and what it does not
The project README describes selenium-stealth as a way to make Selenium Chrome/Chromium sessions less detectable, and identifies Puppeteer Extra Stealth as its implementation lineage. Those are the maintainers’ descriptions, not independent proof of effectiveness.
Selenium supports several browsers, but the package documentation specifically covers Chrome and Chromium. Do not expect its stealth() function to apply to Firefox, Edge, Safari, WebKitGTK, or WPEWebKit. See Selenium’s browser documentation for its broader browser scope.
The README says the package passes public bot tests and can help maintain a normal reCAPTCHA v3 score. It does not provide an independent benchmark, test protocol, sample size, or dated third-party confirmation in the cited material. Treat those statements as project claims, not as a guarantee that a site will allow automation. Browser fingerprint changes do not change your IP address or network reputation, and you should not use them to evade a site’s access controls.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Install and run it with current Selenium
The package’s documented installation command is pip install selenium-stealth. Install Selenium in the same Python environment. The example below follows the README’s call pattern while using current Selenium’s normal Chrome driver creation flow; Selenium Manager generally obtains a compatible driver automatically on supported platforms.
python -m pip install selenium selenium-stealth
from selenium import webdriver
from selenium_stealth import stealth
options = webdriver.ChromeOptions()
driver = webdriver.Chrome(options=options)
try:
stealth(
driver,
languages=["en-US", "en"],
vendor="Google Inc.",
platform="Win32",
webgl_vendor="Intel Inc.",
renderer="Intel Iris OpenGL Engine",
fix_hairline=True,
)
driver.get("https://example.com")
print(driver.title)
finally:
driver.quit()
The values shown are the README’s example values, not universal settings. Use values appropriate to the browser and host running your test. This example demonstrates the documented usage shape; it does not claim a test was run or that the selected values form a coherent fingerprint on every machine.

- Install the two packages in the Python environment that will run the script.
- Create
webdriver.Chrome(options=options). For most supported setups Selenium Manager handles driver acquisition; omit the oldexecutable_pathargument unless you have a specific reason to manage a driver manually. - Call
stealth(driver, ...)before loading the page you intend to test. - Navigate with
driver.get(), perform your authorized test, and always close the session withdriver.quit(), including when an exception occurs.
What the stealth() options configure
The README lists the following arguments. They let a caller set browser properties or behavior; changing them does not by itself establish that the resulting browser looks authentic or matches the host environment.
| Argument | What it configures | Practical caution |
|---|---|---|
user_agent |
The user-agent value exposed by the browser. | Choose a value consistent with the actual browser and test environment; do not assume changing the string changes browser capabilities or network identity. |
languages |
The browser language preferences, supplied as a list such as ["en-US", "en"]. |
Use the languages that match the environment you are testing. |
vendor |
The browser vendor property. | The README example uses "Google Inc."; that example is not a recommendation for every browser build. |
platform |
The platform value exposed to page scripts. | It should not contradict the operating system actually running Chrome. |
webgl_vendor |
The WebGL vendor value. | Use only when your test requires it, and avoid treating it as a complete graphics or device identity. |
renderer |
The WebGL renderer value. | Values that do not fit the host’s graphics environment can produce inconsistencies. |
fix_hairline |
Enables the package’s hairline correction behavior. | The README example sets it to True; it is a configurable behavior, not a general compatibility fix. |
run_on_insecure_origins |
Controls whether the package runs on insecure origins. | Use only when appropriate for your test target; it does not make an insecure site safe. |
Choose the right approach for the task
| Approach | Browser scope or mechanism | When it fits | Evidence and trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plain Selenium | Selenium documents support for multiple browsers, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, WebKitGTK, and WPEWebKit. | Use it for ordinary browser automation, cross-browser tests, or when you need Selenium’s broad browser coverage. | Selenium Manager handles most driver installation for supported setups. It does not imply a stealth layer. |
selenium-stealth |
Configures documented browser properties for Selenium Chrome/Chromium. | Consider it for authorized tests where you specifically need to evaluate how a Chrome-based session behaves with those properties configured. | Detection and reCAPTCHA claims are from the project maintainers; the reviewed documentation does not establish universal effectiveness. |
undetected-chromedriver |
Its project describes patching ChromeDriver. | Compare it with selenium-stealth when your legitimate Chrome test has a driver-compatibility or maintenance requirement that calls for a different implementation. |
Its README says it does not hide your IP address and notes that data-center IP reputation can affect outcomes. The available documentation does not establish a universal winner. |
For both Chrome-based options, consider the maintenance status and compatibility of the specific package with your Selenium and Chrome versions before adopting it. Selenium’s current driver guidance is at Selenium Manager and Selenium’s Chrome documentation.

Keep ChromeDriver isolated and protected
ChromeDriver is a powerful automation interface. Chrome for Developers’ security guidance recommends using the latest Chrome and ChromeDriver, running tests under an account without sensitive local or network access, using a protected environment such as a container or virtual machine, and preventing unauthorized remote connections. Protect Selenium Server or other third-party tool ports as well.
Selenium’s Chrome guidance says Chrome and ChromeDriver should match at the major-version level. Selenium Manager reduces manual driver setup, but if you install or specify a driver yourself, check compatibility rather than assuming any driver version will work with any browser.

Troubleshooting common setup failures
- Chrome or driver cannot be found: Confirm Chrome or Chromium is installed and available to the environment running Python. On supported platforms, let Selenium Manager resolve the driver by creating
webdriver.Chrome(). If you manage a driver manually, verify its location and compatibility. - Session creation fails with a version mismatch: Check the installed Chrome and ChromeDriver major versions and align them. Recheck after browser updates if you pin a driver.
ModuleNotFoundError: selenium_stealth: Installselenium-stealthusing the same Python interpreter or virtual environment that runs the script.- The
stealth()call raises an unexpected-argument error: Check the installed package’s version and README for its supported argument names. Avoid copying example code across package versions without confirming that the installed version supports it. - A target still blocks the session or presents a challenge: A configured browser property does not guarantee access. Check whether the automation is authorized, use the site’s supported testing or API route, and do not attempt to bypass access controls.
- The session remains open after an error: Put navigation and test work inside
tryand calldriver.quit()infinally, as in the example.
Or skip the browser setup
If the actual task is to capture a page image or PDF rather than interact with it through Selenium, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. A single request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its documented API call is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does selenium-stealth work with Chrome?
The project documents its package for Selenium Chrome/Chromium. Its claims about detection outcomes are maintainer claims, not a guarantee that a particular site will accept an automated session.
Does selenium-stealth work with Firefox?
The package README documents Chrome/Chromium support, not Firefox. Selenium itself supports Firefox, but that does not mean this package applies to it.
