Use curl to call ScreenshotMachine’s HTTP API, set dimension to the mobile viewport width and height you want, and save the returned image to a file. Its documented phone example uses dimension=480x800 and device=phone. That is an example—not a universal mobile width; choose a width that matches the responsive breakpoint you need to inspect.
Capture a page at mobile width with curl
ScreenshotMachine documents a shell-based workflow using curl to send an HTTP GET request to its API. This Bash example adapts the provider’s documented approach; it has not been run or independently tested for this article.

Choose a mobile width and rendering mode
The viewport width determines which responsive layout rules the page applies. Use a width relevant to the layout you want to check—for example, the width around a breakpoint where the navigation, columns, or other elements change. ScreenshotMachine’s documentation does not identify a single correct mobile width for every website.

A narrow dimension requests a small viewport, while device=phone selects the provider’s phone mode. The documentation does not say that combining these settings emulates a particular physical phone.
Capture a full-length mobile page
To request a full-page capture, use full as the height in dimension, for example 480xfull. Full-length pages can take longer to render, particularly when they contain images or animations. ScreenshotMachine suggests trying a delay of 2000 milliseconds or more for long full-page captures, but a fixed delay cannot guarantee that every page’s dynamic content is ready.

Keep the desired mobile width when changing the height: the width is what selects the responsive layout. If the result omits late-loading content, increase the delay and capture again.
Troubleshooting the capture
- The page looks like desktop. Check that
dimensioncontains the intended narrow width and thatdevice=phoneis set if you want the documented phone mode. Confirm the target page actually changes layout at that width. - The output is not the expected size. Check the
widthxheightsyntax and keep values within the documented limits: 100–1920 pixels for width and 100–9999 pixels for height. Usefullonly as the height value for a full-page request. - The URL contains characters that break the request. Pass it as a URL-encoded parameter. The example uses
--data-urlencodefor that reason. ScreenshotMachine recommends percent-encoding the target URL; it also documents that anhttp(s)://prefix is optional. - Images or animations are missing on a long page. Increase
delay; the provider’s example guidance for long full-page captures is 2000 milliseconds or more. A longer wait may help, but does not guarantee every script or asset has completed. - The page language or server-side variant is wrong. Set
accept-languagefor the language and, where the task requires it,user-agentfor the request identity. A user-agent string by itself is not full device emulation. - The request is rejected or does not return a screenshot. Verify that
keycontains the customer key issued for your account, that the target URL is valid, and that parameter names and values match the API documentation.
