How to Use Restream with Streamlabs Desktop

Use Streamlabs Desktop as your encoder and Restream as the relay: select destinations in Restream, enter its RTMP details in Streamlabs, and monitor the feed.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To use Restream with Streamlabs Desktop, create an RTMP stream in Restream, select the destinations, then enter Restream’s RTMP server URL and stream key in Streamlabs Desktop. Start the broadcast from Streamlabs; Restream receives that single feed and forwards it to the destinations you enabled.

Before you connect

You need Streamlabs Desktop, a Restream account, and access to the YouTube or other destination accounts you want to connect. Restream handles destination selection; Streamlabs Desktop is the encoder that sends the video and audio feed. You do not need a webcam or microphone specifically for the connection, though you may use them as part of your production.

Restream describes its encoder workflow as compatible with major streaming software, including Streamlabs. The exact menu labels in either app can change, so use the RTMP/custom-server option if a named Restream entry is unavailable.

Set up the stream in Restream

  1. Create or open an encoder stream. In Restream, choose New Stream → Encoder | RTMP. If you have already created an RTMP stream, open it instead.
  2. Select destinations. Enable the channels that should receive the broadcast. Add titles, descriptions, and thumbnails as needed; Restream’s encoder setup supports destination details, including per-channel titles and descriptions.
  3. Copy the connection details. Copy the RTMP URL and stream key shown in the setup. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. Do not share it publicly, and regenerate it in the relevant service if it is exposed.

Connect Streamlabs Desktop to Restream

  1. Open Streamlabs Desktop and select the gear icon → Settings → Stream.
  2. Look for a Restream service option. Depending on the app’s available connection flow, choose the Restream service under Streaming Services, or choose the custom ingest/server option.
  3. If using the Restream service option, enter the Restream stream key in the requested field. If using custom RTMP, enter both the RTMP URL and stream key copied from Restream.
  4. Select Done or save the settings, depending on the version shown.
  5. Start streaming in Streamlabs Desktop. In Restream, open View Stream to check the incoming feed, destination status, and viewer counts.

Streamlabs Support’s connection article was updated April 25, 2025, and describes the custom-ingest/service-selection flow. Restream’s April 3, 2025 connection guide names the Restream service route; its July 31, 2026 software guide documents RTMP as the general encoder workflow. If your menus differ, rely on the RTMP URL and key in Restream rather than assuming an older label is still present.

Recommended Streamlabs encoder settings

Restream’s April 2025 Streamlabs guide recommends these settings as a starting point. They are Restream’s recommendations from that guide, not universal settings for every resolution, destination platform, or computer:

Setting Restream recommendation
Output mode Advanced
Encoder Software (x264)
Rate control CBR
Keyframe interval 2 seconds
Profile Main

Set the remaining output values—such as resolution and bitrate—to suit your target platform’s current guidelines and your upload capacity. The cited connection guide does not establish one bitrate or resolution for every stream, so do not treat a single setting as appropriate across destinations.

Understand which plan controls the limits

Using Restream as the relay and using Streamlabs’ own multistream feature are separate workflows with separate plan rules. A Streamlabs plan does not automatically change Restream’s channel limits, and Restream’s plan does not unlock Streamlabs-only features.

Option What the cited product information establishes When it fits
Restream with Streamlabs Desktop Restream’s February 9, 2026 help article says the free plan includes multistreaming to 2 channels and use with third-party software such as OBS. It lists 3+ channels, Facebook Pages, Groups, and custom RTMP destinations as requiring a paid plan. When you want Restream’s dashboard, destination controls, or monitoring while keeping Streamlabs Desktop as the encoder.
Streamlabs Multistream Streamlabs’ product page describes a separate cloud-forwarding product, a free Dual Output option for one horizontal and one vertical destination, and broader Streamlabs Multistream as an Ultra feature. When you prefer Streamlabs’ built-in multistream workflow and its stated output arrangement.

Restream’s plan details are dated to February 9, 2026; verify the terms shown in your account before relying on a channel count or destination eligibility, because plan features can change. Troubleshooting the connection

  • Restream is not listed in Streamlabs. Select the custom RTMP or custom ingest option and enter the URL and key from Restream. Menu names can vary by app version.
  • Restream does not receive a feed. Confirm that Streamlabs is actually live, then check that the RTMP URL and stream key were copied without spaces or truncation. Verify that you used the key for the RTMP stream you opened in Restream.
  • The feed arrives but a destination is missing. Return to the Restream stream setup and confirm that the destination is enabled and connected. Check that your Restream plan supports the number and type of destinations selected.
  • The broadcast stutters or drops. Check the computer’s upload connection and encoder load, then reduce output demands if necessary. Restream’s cited setup guidance points users to destination-platform guidelines for settings beyond its listed recommendations.
  • A key may have been exposed. Replace or reset the stream key through the relevant account’s live-stream settings, then update Streamlabs with the new key before going live again.
