On a Samsung Galaxy that offers the feature, open Settings > Display > Screensaver, choose an available photo style, and select an album. Samsung says the screen saver appears while the device is charging and its screen turns off. Other Android phones may use different menus—or may not offer a photo screen saver at all—so check the settings on your exact model rather than assuming Pixel instructions apply.
What a photo screen saver does—and when it appears
A photo screen saver displays selected pictures after the device’s screen turns off under the conditions supported by the phone. It is different from a wallpaper: a wallpaper changes the background on a screen such as the Lock screen, while a screen saver is a separate display feature that may start only in a particular state.

For Galaxy devices covered by Samsung’s current instructions, the relevant condition is charging: Samsung says the screen saver appears when the screen turns off while the device is charging. The instructions do not establish that every Android phone has this feature, that every Galaxy model exposes the same choices, or that the feature starts under the same conditions on other manufacturers’ devices.
Set up a photo screen saver on a supported Galaxy
- Connect the Galaxy to a charger. Charging is part of the trigger Samsung describes for this screen saver.
- Open Settings > Display > Screensaver. If Screensaver is not listed under Display, do not assume a different screen-saver setting exists; availability can depend on the device and software.
- Choose one of the photo options shown. Samsung’s current support instructions name Photo Frame, Photo Table, and Photos. Your device may show only some of these choices, or different choices.
- Select the album when prompted. Choose the album containing the pictures you want displayed. The current instructions describe choosing an album, but do not promise identical album-selection screens on every model.
- Leave the device charging and let its screen turn off. That is the trigger Samsung describes. If the phone offers a screen-saver preview, you can use it to inspect the result, but Samsung’s cited current instructions do not specify a preview step.
Samsung Gulf Support’s instructions, updated June 24, 2026, list Galaxy S24, S25, S26, Z Fold, Z Flip, and A series in the supported-device section. That list is not a guarantee that every model or software version in those families has the same menu or options. Verify the setting on the individual device.

What the available photo styles mean
Names and behavior can vary by model and software. The clearest descriptions of the two named layouts come from the older Galaxy S9+ user manual, so treat them as examples of how those styles worked on that model generation—not as a promise about current Galaxy phones.

If you do not have a Pixel, do not follow Pixel menus as universal Android steps
Google’s “Set up a screen saver” help page explains a Pixel-specific setup: it describes selecting Photos, configuring the source, and choosing when the screen saver appears. It is useful for understanding the kind of controls a screen saver can have, but it does not establish that a non-Pixel phone has the same settings, labels, photo sources, or trigger options.

For a non-Pixel phone, start with its manufacturer’s documentation and the settings on the device itself. On a Galaxy, the current Samsung path is Settings > Display > Screensaver. On another Android brand, no universal alternative path is established. If the setting is missing, the evidence does not support treating a Pixel-only menu as a fix.

- No Screensaver entry under Display: The feature may not be available on that model or software version. Check model-specific manufacturer support. Do not infer support from the fact that the phone runs Android.
- Screensaver exists, but there is no photo choice: Use only the sources and styles actually offered in that menu. Samsung’s named options are not guaranteed across all Galaxy devices.
- The selected photos do not appear: Confirm that you selected the intended album in the screen-saver settings. Then check the result with the device charging and its screen turned off, which is the condition Samsung documents.
- The screen saver does not start: First confirm that the device is charging and that its screen has turned off. If both are true and it still does not appear, consult support for the exact model and software; the cited instructions do not identify additional universal timing or trigger settings.
- You only see a Lock screen image: That is wallpaper behavior, not proof that a screen saver is enabled. Use the Screensaver setting, if present, to configure the separate feature.
Use a photo as wallpaper if your phone lacks a screen saver
If the phone does not offer a photo screen saver, setting a picture as wallpaper is a different way to personalize its display. Samsung documents using a Gallery image or video as Lock screen wallpaper on devices running One UI 6. This changes the Lock screen background; it does not create the charging-triggered screen saver described in Samsung’s screen-saver instructions. Other devices may have their own wallpaper steps, which are not established by the Samsung instructions.
