The documented approach is to pass a webpage URL from a Zap trigger to PDFShift’s API, authenticate the request with an API key, then send the resulting PDF to a storage or delivery step. Before building it, check whether your current Zapier account offers a supported PDFShift action or an API-request option that can call PDFShift.
How the PDFShift–Zapier workflow fits together
PDFShift converts a URL or HTML source to PDF. Its documented API example sends a POST request to the v3 conversion endpoint, supplies the page URL as the source, and authenticates with an X-API-Key header. See the PDFShift API and product page.

In an automation, the general flow is:
- A Zap trigger provides a webpage URL—for example, a new record containing a page address.
- An HTTP/API step submits that URL to PDFShift with your API key held as a secret.
- A later Zap step receives or retrieves the generated PDF and delivers it to the destination you choose.
PDFShift describes automation delivery options such as a download, URL, cloud storage, or webhook in its automation overview. That overview does not document the exact Zapier fields, response mapping, or a current end-to-end Zap recipe. Treat the sequence above as the architecture to configure, not a verified click-by-click setup.

Check the current Zapier options before configuring a Zap
PDFShift names Zapier among its automation connections, but the available documentation does not establish that PDFShift currently appears as a native Zapier app action. Check the app and action picker in your Zapier account first. If a PDFShift action is listed, follow its current fields and authentication instructions.

If it is not listed, Zapier’s API Request action is not automatically a substitute: Zapier describes that beta feature as making HTTP requests to supported public apps, and the documentation reviewed does not confirm PDFShift is supported there. Verify support and available authentication controls in your account before designing around it. Zapier’s overview of app connection authentication methods may help you understand the options shown for a connection, but it does not prove a particular PDFShift configuration is available.
Configure the conversion without guessing at Zap fields
1. Choose a trigger that supplies the page URL
Set up the event that should start the automation and identify the field containing the complete, publicly reachable webpage URL. The trigger app and its field names depend on your workflow; the cited PDFShift and Zapier sources do not specify a particular trigger.

2. Add a supported PDFShift request or action
Use a native PDFShift action if your current Zapier app picker provides one. Otherwise, proceed only if Zapier currently offers a supported way to call PDFShift’s API in your account. The API request needs to send the source URL to PDFShift’s v3 conversion endpoint as a POST request and include your key in the X-API-Key header, as shown on the PDFShift API page. Follow the live API reference for the endpoint path, request body, and response format; do not infer Zapier field names from a generic HTTP example.
3. Keep the API key private
Store the key in the automation tool’s secret or authentication controls, not in a publicly visible webpage or client-side script. PDFShift says unauthenticated requests can produce watermarked output and identifies X-API-Key as the current authentication header. Its help article records an authentication change on 2025-05-06: why a watermark is present when sandbox is set to false.

4. Map the result to the destination
Connect a storage, email, or other delivery action only after checking what the conversion step actually returns. Depending on the supported integration, the result may be a file, a URL, or another delivery mechanism. Confirm that the destination accepts that output and that the Zapier field mapping refers to the PDF—not just a status or link. The available sources do not verify a specific response field or file-mapping recipe for Zapier.
5. Test with a page you can access
Run the Zap with a normal public webpage, then open the delivered PDF and check that it contains the expected content. Confirm the Zap’s task history shows a successful conversion and destination step before turning the automation on for routine use.

What can affect webpage conversion
A URL conversion depends on the conversion service being able to reach and render the page. The sources reviewed do not establish PDFShift’s behavior in a Zapier-specific workflow for private or authenticated pages, paywalls, robots restrictions, or JavaScript-heavy sites. Do not assume that every URL will produce a complete PDF; test representative pages and check the generated file.
Page layout, output size, and downstream delivery also matter. PDFShift’s published credit rule is one credit for up to 5 MB of generated PDF output; larger files use additional credits. Its FAQ lists 50 free monthly credits, but plan allowances can change, so check the current PDFShift FAQ before estimating recurring usage.

Do not confuse PDFShift with Zapier PDF Export
Zapier separately lists an app called PDF Export with a “Convert HTML to PDF” action accepting URL or HTML input. The listing identifies it as PDF Export, not PDFShift: Zapier PDF Export integrations. The sources do not establish that it is powered by PDFShift or interchangeable with PDFShift. Choose it only if that separate service meets your requirements; it does not verify a PDFShift-based workflow.
