OrcaSlicer’s built-in calibration tools let you run printable tests for a specific printer-and-filament setup, then use what you observe to tune its settings. They can help you identify a suitable nozzle temperature, a cautious maximum volumetric speed, and a pressure-advance value—but the results are not universal, and the slicer’s documentation does not promise a dramatic improvement on every printer.
The current OrcaSlicer Calibration Guide, edited July 6, 2026, recommends this order: temperature, maximum volumetric speed, pressure advance, flow, then retraction. This is a practical guide to what that sequence means and how to interpret its results without treating a calibration print as a guarantee.

What OrcaSlicer calibration can—and cannot—tell you
OrcaSlicer’s wiki lists built-in calibration categories for temperature, volumetric speed, pressure advance, flow ratio, retraction, tolerance, and advanced tests. The Calibration Guide gives a recommended order for several of these; the broader list is not a claim that every category must be run for every print.

Calibration results depend on the equipment and material being tested. A value that works for one filament or printer may not suit another, and a test print is evidence about the conditions used for that test—not proof that every model will print better at the same setting. Start with the current guide and the relevant test page in the OrcaSlicer Wiki.
#1 Best Overall
- Durable, rigid construction; Solid rivets keep the blades in place, no more repurposed artist palette spatulas with spinning, twisting and turning cramp rings!
- Long knife with a beveled front edge; Slides very gently underneath prints with ease to protect the build bed surface yet provides good reach and allows prying
- Stiff, hardened stainless steel blades; Flexible but not too thin or flimsy, safer rounded edges, work well with different size objects without damaging them
- Stylish and useful; The smaller offset spatula has a black ergonomic rubber comfort grip, the knife has a big thick wood handle suitable for larger parts
- Essential addition to your 3D Printer accessories; No more putty knives to remove prints. Doubles as a leveling tool to scrape off stuck-on plastic from the print bed
Follow the current recommended order
- Temperature: print a temperature tower and choose a suitable nozzle temperature for the filament.
- Maximum volumetric speed: test where print quality begins to decline as extrusion volume per second increases.
- Pressure advance: use a method and test variant compatible with the printer’s extruder arrangement and firmware.
- Flow: calibrate flow after pressure advance, following the current instructions for the flow test.
- Retraction: calibrate retraction after flow, using the current instructions for that test.
The guide’s order differs from older versions of the wiki, so use the current page rather than assuming an older sequence still applies. When finished, create a new project to leave calibration mode, as the guide instructs.
Choose a suitable temperature with a tower
The temperature test prints blocks at multiple nozzle temperatures. Compare the blocks and select a temperature that gives the best result for the filament and printer you are testing; do not assume the same temperature is right for a different material or setup.

- Zero setting function: The smart design allows you to set zero with an easy touch of a button and start a new measurement at any point of the scale, ideal for differential measuring
- Large LCD screen & auto off: The large and easy-to-read LCD display helps you get precise results quickly and easily, auto shutdown for saving battery after 5 minutes if without operation
OrcaSlicer’s temperature page explains that temperature affects filament viscosity, flow, and adhesion. It notes that a low temperature can be associated with under-extrusion or poor layer adhesion, while a high one can contribute to degradation or stringing. These are general considerations, not a diagnosis: a defect can have other causes, so use the tower’s results alongside the rest of the print and setup.

Set a conservative maximum volumetric speed
Maximum volumetric speed is the volume of plastic the printer can extrude per second under the tested conditions. OrcaSlicer says it varies with material, printer, nozzle diameter, extruder setup, filament brand, and color. Recalibrate when one of those factors changes enough to affect extrusion rather than carrying a result over automatically.
The documented test uses a start speed, end speed, and step size. Its example settings are 5 mm³/s for the start, 20 mm³/s for the end, and 0.5 mm³/s increments. These are example test settings, not a recommended speed for every printer or a typical performance result. The test instructions describe noting where quality begins to suffer and measuring the printed height to calculate the corresponding value.

Interpret the result as an upper limit observed in a best-case test, not a guaranteed real-world print speed. The wiki warns that retractions and other factors can still lead to clogs or under-extrusion at high flow, and advises choosing a conservative reduction from the test result. Consult the full Maximum Volumetric Speed Calibration guide before applying the value.

Pressure advance tuning addresses how extrusion responds to changes in print speed. The current wiki page describes tower, pattern, and line calibration methods, with variants for direct-drive and Bowden extruders. Select the test that matches the printer’s extruder arrangement; results from a mismatched variant should not be treated as interchangeable.

Firmware support is another prerequisite. For Marlin, the documentation says Linear Advance must be enabled using M900 for the relevant test. Check that the feature is available and configured for the actual printer before running the calibration. The wiki says to save the resulting value to the material profile. See the current Pressure Advance Calibration page for method-specific instructions.
Run flow and retraction after pressure advance
The current Calibration Guide places flow after pressure advance and retraction after flow. Use the corresponding current wiki instructions for each test rather than guessing steps or transferring values from a different material profile. The recommended order is established by the guide; its brief descriptions alone are not enough to specify a complete step-by-step procedure for these two calibrations.
Keep results tied to the setup that produced them
Record the material and printer configuration alongside any values you keep, especially when changing filament, nozzle, or extruder setup. A calibration result is most useful when you can identify what it applies to and reproduce the test conditions. If a result causes problems on a real print, revisit the relevant test and use a more conservative setting rather than assuming the test guarantees that every model can run at its limit.
After calibration, create a new project to exit calibration mode, following the Calibration Guide.
