Build one OBS scene for each prerecorded tour segment, use Studio Mode to preview the next scene, and take it live with a cut, fade, or other transition. Rehearse with the actual clips before broadcasting, then check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and monitor audio and video throughout the stream.
Prepare a scene for each tour segment
- Create the scenes: In OBS Studio, add a separate scene for each property tour or segment you want to present. Add the relevant prerecorded media to each scene, then name and arrange the scenes in the intended broadcast order. OBS supports switching between scenes; this organization is a practical workflow, not a property-tour-specific OBS preset.
- Check each clip: Confirm that it starts at the intended point, is framed correctly, and has intelligible audio. Check that switching to the following scene will not reveal another property before you intend it to.
Choose a transition for the handoff
OBS includes Fade and Cut transitions from first launch. Its documented options also include Swipe, Slide, Fade to color, and Luma Wipe. OBS does not prescribe a transition style for real-estate tours, so choose based on how much interruption and visual branding suit your presentation.

| Transition approach | What viewers see | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Cut | An immediate switch to the next scene. | Fast, direct handoffs where a pause or visual effect would distract. |
| Fade | A softened handoff between scenes. | A restrained change of property or segment. |
| Swipe, Slide, Fade to color, or Luma Wipe | A more visibly animated transition. | When the effect supports the program’s style; rehearse timing and playback. |
| Stinger | A video overlays the cut between scenes. | When a branded animation serves the program and its extra asset is worth preparing. |
Set a consistent duration for the transitions you use. For a stinger, configure its cut point. If you use a track matte, OBS advises keeping the animation and mask together in one video file because separate files are not guaranteed to decode in sync. A simple cut or fade is sufficient for many tour handoffs.
Switch scenes safely with Studio Mode
- Enable Studio Mode in OBS. It separates the preview/edit scene from the live/program scene; viewers cannot see whether Studio Mode is enabled.
- Select the next tour scene in the preview area. Check its framing and playback before taking it live.
- When the preview is ready, click Transition to move it to the live/program output using the selected transition.
For faster switching, OBS Studio Mode offers configurable Quick Transitions, and OBS also supports hotkey-based scene transitions. Use manual clicks if they are easier to control; use Quick Transitions or hotkeys only after you have tested them. Rehearse privately or with an unlisted test so an accidental click or key press does not expose the wrong scene.

Set up and check the YouTube encoder stream
- Enable live streaming early: YouTube says first-time livestream enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Prepare the encoder in advance: YouTube’s live-streaming tips advise setting up the encoder stream at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before it begins.
- Match OBS output to YouTube’s current guidance: YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video codec options, frame rates up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and CBR bitrate encoding. It recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, not exceeding 4 seconds. Set OBS to match the current YouTube settings page and your connection and production needs; a single bitrate is not suitable for every setup.
- Check before going live: Look at the Live Control Room preview and confirm that the expected picture and sound arrive from OBS.
- Monitor during the stream: Keep checking audio and video rather than assuming a successful preview guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.
YouTube’s recommendations and encoder settings can change. Confirm the current requirements on its encoder settings page before a broadcast, and consult its live-streaming tips for preparation and monitoring guidance.
Rehearse the complete sequence
- Run every tour file through the scene where it will appear, including the opening and the point at which you expect to transition away.
- Practice each transition at its chosen duration and confirm the next property appears only when intended.
- Listen through each handoff for clipped, missing, or hard-to-understand audio.
- Test the exact controls you plan to use—mouse buttons, Quick Transitions, or hotkeys—during a private or unlisted rehearsal.
- Try the setup ahead of the broadcast. YouTube also recommends a test live stream.
Troubleshoot common handoff problems
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The wrong property appears live. | The wrong preview scene may have been selected, or a hotkey or button may have been triggered unintentionally. | Verify the preview scene before clicking Transition. Rehearse the controls and remove or change hotkeys that are easy to trigger accidentally. |
| A transition feels too abrupt or too slow. | The selected effect or its duration may not suit the handoff. | Try a cut for an immediate switch or a fade for a softer one, then adjust and rehearse the duration. |
| A stinger reveals the next scene at the wrong point. | The stinger cut point may be incorrectly configured. | Adjust the cut point and rehearse the full animation. For a track matte, keep the animation and mask in the same video file. |
| The next clip starts at an unexpected point or has poor framing. | The scene’s media source or composition may not be ready as intended. | Preview the actual scene and clip before taking it live; correct the source or framing and test again. |
| Viewers report missing or unclear sound after a switch. | Audio may not carry cleanly through the handoff. | Listen to the actual clips across scene changes during rehearsal, then check audio in the Live Control Room preview and during the broadcast. |
| The YouTube preview does not show the expected stream. | The encoder connection or output settings may not match YouTube’s current guidance. | Check the Live Control Room preview, verify OBS output against YouTube’s current encoder settings, and confirm RTMPS configuration. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps prerecorded videos playing 24/7, rather than a manually operated live tour presentation, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera.
