You can use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive, and Outlook on an HP Stream through a web browser—without installing desktop Office. How do I use Microsoft 365 on my HP Stream?
- Open a current browser. Use a browser supported and updated by your HP Stream’s operating system.
- Go to Microsoft365.com. Sign in with a personal Microsoft account or the work or school account provided by your organization.

Can I use Word on an HP Stream without installing Office?
Yes. Use Word in your browser at Microsoft365.com. You can start a new document from OneDrive or open a document stored there; you do not need to install desktop Office for this web workflow.

Create a document
- Open OneDrive from Microsoft 365.
- Choose Word, then select a blank document or a template.
- Enter your content. In this OneDrive workflow, changes save automatically.
Open or upload an existing document
Open a file already stored in OneDrive, or upload a document to OneDrive and open it there. It opens in the web app, where you can edit it subject to the features available to your account.

Share a document
Use Word’s sharing controls to invite people or create a shareable link. Check the sharing options and access settings before sending a link, especially if the document contains information you do not want broadly available.
Is Microsoft 365 Online free?
Microsoft says a personal Microsoft account can use basic viewing and editing. You do not need to assume that a paid subscription is required for basic personal access. More advanced editing features may require a Microsoft 365 subscription. For a work or school account, available apps and features can depend on the organization’s plan and administrator settings.
What are the limits of Microsoft 365 in a browser?
- Internet access is needed for this cloud workflow. Microsoft 365 for the web uses cloud documents, so a lost connection can prevent access to the files or interrupt the workflow described here.
- Web apps do not match every desktop feature. Microsoft describes browser editing as having basic features; if a required capability is missing, you may need an appropriately licensed desktop app or another supported option.
- Excel macros do not run in Excel for the web. Microsoft also documents format limitations and conversion behavior for some older files. Keep an untouched copy before converting an important legacy workbook, and check the current Excel documentation for the specific feature or format you rely on.
- Account entitlements vary. Subscription features and work/school access depend on the account and, for organizational accounts, administrator configuration.

What should I check if Microsoft 365 does not work?
- Confirm that the HP Stream is connected to the internet and that you have signed in with the intended personal, work, or school account.
- Update the browser supported by your particular system, then reload Microsoft365.com.
- If an app or feature is unavailable, check whether your account or organization’s plan includes it and whether an administrator controls access.
- If the issue appears specific to the device, consult HP support for the exact Stream model rather than assuming a particular browser, Windows edition, or hardware capability.
