To use Live 3D for VTubing, open Live3D’s VTuber Maker, connect a webcam, enable tracking, choose an avatar, and send the app’s virtual camera to your streaming or video-chat software. Calibrate if the avatar does not follow your natural movement. The basic route is webcam → tracking → avatar → virtual-camera output; check the current app UI because the available labels and compatibility may differ from the manual.
What “Live 3D” means here
Live 3D in this guide means Live3D’s VTuber Maker, a webcam-based application that tracks your movement and applies it to a digital character. It is not Live2D Cubism, a separate 2D-model format and workflow. VTube Studio’s maintainer says that app supports Live2D Cubism models, not 3D VRoid or VRM models; its setup instructions are therefore not the right guide for a 3D avatar. See VTube Studio’s getting-started documentation.

What you need before setup
- A webcam that VTuber Maker can access. The manual describes webcam-based face, head and upper-body tracking; it does not establish that a particular camera model is required.
- VTuber Maker and a compatible avatar. Confirm supported formats and current installation requirements in the current product interface or documentation.
- Streaming or video-chat software that can select a virtual camera, if you want to send the avatar out of VTuber Maker.
- Driver support for virtual broadcast. The VTuber Maker manual says this output depends on driver support, so the option may not work on every setup.
There is no evidence here that you need a premium webcam. VTube Studio’s maintainer has published webcam guidance of 1280×720 or higher and 15–30 fps for that separate application, but those figures are not VTuber Maker specifications and should not be treated as requirements for Live3D.

- Install and launch the app. Use the current VTuber Maker installer and follow its present setup and account prompts. A Streamlabs walkthrough dated March 6, 2023 described downloading and extracting files, opening the app, creating an account and confirming an email, but that older account flow may have changed.
- Select the webcam. In VTuber Maker’s current settings, choose the webcam you intend to use and check that the app receives its image. Close other applications that may be holding the camera if it is unavailable.
- Enable tracking. Turn on tracking and position yourself so your face and upper body are visible. The manual describes face, head and upper-body tracking.
- Calibrate if movement looks wrong. Use the app’s Calibrate control when the avatar does not match your natural resting position or movement. Sit in your usual streaming posture and face the camera while calibrating.
- Choose an avatar and scene. Select the character and presentation you want. Historical walkthroughs mention rooms, backgrounds, green-screen or plain-color options, poses and interactions, but availability can change; check the current app rather than relying on old counts or plan descriptions.
Configure voice-driven lip-sync and controls
VTuber Maker’s manual describes a separate “Audio Based Lipsync” toggle. Enable it if you want voice input to drive mouth movement; it is voice-based lip-sync, not speech recognition or automatic transcription. Make a short private recording or preview and adjust your microphone input if mouth movement does not respond as expected.

The manual also describes a background-free, always-on-top avatar widget and a Quick Action Panel for triggering actions. Key combinations can be found or adjusted in the app’s options. These controls are useful when you want to keep the avatar visible on your desktop or trigger expressions and actions without navigating the main window.
Send the avatar to your stream or call
- Enable virtual output in VTuber Maker. The version 1.0 manual labels the feature “Virtual Barodcast” (spelled that way in the manual). The current label may differ; look for the virtual broadcast or camera control in the app.
- Allow or install the required driver if prompted. Virtual broadcast requires driver support according to the manual. Follow the current on-screen instructions and restart the app if requested.
- Select the virtual camera in your receiving app. In your livestreaming or video-chat software’s camera/video source settings, choose “VTuber Maker Virtual Camera” if that is the current device name.
- Check the result before a public broadcast. Preview the framing, tracking, background and mouth movement in the receiving application. Confirm it is using the virtual camera rather than your physical webcam, then do a private test before going live.
If the receiving software does not list the virtual camera, confirm the virtual-output feature is enabled and that its driver is available, then restart both applications. If the physical webcam is missing inside VTuber Maker, check camera permissions and close other software using it.

Common setup problems and fixes
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| The avatar barely moves or does not follow you | Check that the correct webcam is selected and tracking is enabled. Reposition yourself in view and use Calibrate if the avatar’s neutral position is wrong. |
| The avatar’s mouth does not move with your voice | Confirm “Audio Based Lipsync” is enabled and that the intended microphone is available to the app. |
| The virtual camera is absent from the streaming app | Check whether virtual broadcast is enabled and driver support is installed or active. Verify the device name in the current app UI and restart the applications after a driver change. |
| The avatar appears, but the background or framing is wrong | Review the selected scene or background in VTuber Maker and preview the result in the receiving software before streaming. |
| Instructions do not match your menus | Product menus and compatibility can change. The manual reviewed is version 1.0, while the Streamlabs walkthrough is from March 6, 2023; use the current in-app labels and support information. |
Copyright and model-use checks before streaming
Before broadcasting, make sure you have permission to use the avatar, music, images, backgrounds and other material in your stream. A tool’s library or a downloadable asset is not by itself proof that you may use it commercially or rebroadcast it. Review the applicable licenses and YouTube’s current policies, especially when a stream reuses prerecorded material. The reviewed setup sources do not establish current Live3D licensing terms, so check those terms directly before relying on an old walkthrough’s claims about included or commissioned models.
Or let it run in the cloud
VTuber Maker handles a tracked avatar and virtual-camera output; StreamNeo is for keeping an uploaded-video YouTube stream running continuously. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It does not stream a live camera feed or replace VTuber Maker’s avatar tracking.
