iOS 27 adds four distinct capabilities to Apple’s Home app: Apple Intelligence can group related accessory alerts into an updating activity, describe recorded clips from compatible cameras, help search recordings in natural language, and surface noteworthy clips in Search. Separately, supported HomeKit Secure Video cameras can stream and record in 4K. These capabilities depend on device, camera, hub, subscription, language, and regional eligibility; they do not apply automatically to every Home setup.
What changes in the Home app
The updates address two different tasks: managing notifications from connected accessories and finding useful moments in camera recordings. Apple Intelligence features for descriptions and clip search analyze recorded footage; the notification feature groups related accessory alerts. The 4K option is a camera video capability, not an AI feature.

Related accessory alerts become one activity
When similar Home notifications occur, Apple Intelligence can group them into one activity that updates as events continue. Apple gives repeated locking and unlocking of a door as an example. The aim is to make a run of related alerts easier to follow, rather than treating each alert as unrelated. Apple says this grouping requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, a home hub, and Location Services enabled for Home and accessories. Apple’s September 2026 availability announcement describes these requirements.

Descriptions summarize recorded camera clips
For compatible Home cameras, Apple Intelligence can generate text describing what happened in recorded footage. The descriptions are intended to help you understand a sequence of clips without opening and watching each one. They are generated summaries, not a guarantee that every detail or event will be identified correctly.

Natural-language search finds footage by event
You can search camera recordings by describing what you are looking for—for example, a package delivery. Apple’s WWDC26 presentation also describes connecting relevant footage across cameras to provide a broader account of activity. Home’s Search view can surface noteworthy clips before you enter a query. Apple has not published accuracy or performance figures for these capabilities, so treat search results and summaries as aids for finding footage, not as a substitute for checking a clip when the details matter.
Supported cameras can stream and record in 4K
Apple says supported HomeKit Secure Video cameras can stream and record in 4K. The Apple material cited here does not name compatible camera models. Do not assume that HomeKit Secure Video support alone means a camera supports 4K recording; check the exact model’s documentation for both HomeKit Secure Video and explicit 4K support.

What you need for camera descriptions and clip search
Apple’s current iPhone Support guide specifies these requirements for the camera-description features:
- A home hub: HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K, running the latest operating system.
- An owner’s iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence enabled.
- Apple Intelligence enabled in Home.
- A 2TB iCloud+ plan, as specified in the current Support guide.
- A compatible Home camera and recorded footage to analyze.
Apple says iOS 27 Apple Intelligence on iPhone requires iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later. Its September 2026 announcement describes the subscription requirement more generally as an eligible iCloud+ plan, while the Support guide specifies 2TB. Because Apple’s wording differs between these sources, check the current requirements shown for your account and region before changing plans.

Some features may be unavailable in particular languages or regions, and device availability varies by region. Check Apple’s Support guide for the latest eligibility details.
How to turn on the features
- Check your hub and iPhone. Confirm that your home has a supported hub running the latest operating system and that the owner’s iPhone is an eligible Apple Intelligence-capable model.
- Enable Apple Intelligence in Home. Open the Home app, go to Home Settings, and turn on Apple Intelligence.
- Choose camera settings. In Home Settings, enable or disable descriptions for each camera as needed.
- Adjust grouped notifications. To control whether related alerts are grouped, open Home Settings > Apple Intelligence and turn Reduce Notifications on or off. Notification grouping also depends on Location Services for Home and accessories.
- Search recorded clips. Open Home’s Search view and describe the event or item you want to find, such as a delivery. Review the returned clips to confirm what happened.
Choosing a camera or checking 4K compatibility
Apple’s published iOS 27 materials establish support for 4K streaming and recording on some HomeKit Secure Video cameras, but they do not provide a model-by-model compatibility list. They also do not establish which camera models support AI descriptions or search beyond the qualification “compatible cameras.” That leaves model-specific compatibility as something to verify before buying or relying on a feature.

- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
- There will be no visible cosmetic imperfections when held at an arm’s length.
- This product is eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if you are not satisfied.
- Product may come in generic Box.
- Confirm the camera supports HomeKit Secure Video.
- For 4K, look for explicit documentation that the exact model supports both 4K streaming and recording in Home.
- Check whether the model is compatible with the Home app’s recorded-clip description and search features.
- Confirm that your home hub, iPhone, software, subscription, language, and region meet Apple’s current requirements.
Do not infer 4K support from resolution specifications for another app or recording mode: the relevant question is whether that exact camera supports 4K streaming and recording through HomeKit Secure Video in Home.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat Apple has—and has not—established
Apple documents these capabilities as iOS 27 features, but the cited material does not provide independent accuracy tests, quantified search performance, or a list of 4K-compatible camera models. Nor does it specify changes to recording retention. The practical takeaway is to use descriptions and search to locate relevant footage, then inspect the original clip when you need to verify an event. For purchasing decisions, rely on model-specific compatibility documentation rather than assuming all HomeKit cameras support every feature.
