Use Gemini to find places, shape them into a trip plan and review them on a map; use Google Maps to confirm details and navigate. Gemini’s suggestions are a draft, not a booking or a guarantee of current hours, prices or travel times, so verify important details with the place or service before you go.
Before you start
For Maps-connected place and directions features in Gemini Apps, Google requires you to be signed in and to have Keep Activity turned on. Some place features are rolling out gradually and are limited to people aged 18 or over using a personal Google Account and asking about a place in English. Availability can vary by platform, language and region, so check the controls and results in your own app. See Google’s Gemini Apps Help for computer and the Android help page.

The Maps connection in Gemini Apps has limits: it cannot provide live traffic updates, use saved places other than Home and Work, save location history or add a place review. It is also unavailable in Gemini Live chats and Gemini in Google Messages. These are separate from Gemini’s in-navigation assistance in Google Maps.
Plan a trip in Gemini Apps

Describe the trip
Start with the destination, dates, where you are staying or starting from, interests, travel party, transport mode and pace. Include practical constraints such as accessibility or dietary needs. For example: “I’ll be in [destination] from [dates], staying near [area]. I like [interests], will travel by [mode], and need [constraints]. Suggest a realistic [number]-day plan grouped by neighborhood, show places on a map, and flag details I should verify.” This is suggested wording, not a quoted Google prompt.

Ask for candidate places and useful details
Ask Gemini for places that match your needs and for details that will help you compare them. Google says Gemini can provide Maps information such as addresses, descriptions, websites, ratings and opening hours. Its help examples include: “What’s a nearby spot for authentic Mexican food that can seat a group of six?” and “Find me a park with a playground that’s within a 10 min drive from where I am now.”

Organize places into a workable itinerary
Ask Gemini to group options by neighborhood or route, account for your existing plans and take travel time into consideration. Google’s August 2026 overview describes Gemini creating custom routes and grouping activities by neighborhood while considering locations, travel time, existing plans and preferences. Treat the result as a proposed structure: check whether the suggested sequence fits your actual schedule and confirm the details that could change.

Open the places and inspect the map
Follow the place links to open their details rather than relying only on the itinerary text. Depending on what is supported, place details may include images, reviews and an AI summary. Review the interactive map to see how the suggested stops relate to one another. If the option appears in your app, export the map’s pinned places to a custom Google Maps list; Google describes this availability as part of a gradual rollout.

Verify and navigate in Google Maps
Before departure, confirm opening times, prices, availability, travel times and booking details with the relevant provider. Then use Google Maps to choose your transport mode and start navigation. Gemini’s map and place suggestions can help assemble a plan, but they do not replace checking current trip information.

Use Gemini during navigation in Google Maps
Gemini inside Google Maps is for assistance during a journey, not the same workflow as using Gemini Apps to research and lay out a trip. Google’s Android navigation help describes asking route questions, using route controls and searching for places along the route. For example, you can ask, “Find me a cafe near my destination that serves tiramisu.” Google’s examples also include asking for the next turn, your ETA or an alternative route. Optional: add connected personal context
Google’s August 6, 2026 article describes using Personal Intelligence connections with Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube to personalize recommendations and take existing booking context into account. These are optional connected-app capabilities, not prerequisites for basic Maps place searches. The article notes that its AI-generated content is experimental. What Maps information does—and does not—prove
Google Maps India GM Lalitha Ramani wrote in March 2026 that Maps analyzes information from over 300 million places, including reviews from more than 500 million contributors globally. Those figures describe the scale of Maps information; they are not evidence that a Gemini itinerary is accurate or that a particular place’s details are current. See Google Maps India’s announcement.
