In Firefox 149 or later, right-click a tab and choose Add Split View to view two websites side by side in one browser window. Choose another open tab for the second pane, or enter a web address there. You can also select two tabs first and open them together in Split View.
Open Split View from one tab
- Right-click the tab you want to keep in the left pane. On macOS, you can Control-click it instead.
- Choose Add Split View.
- Firefox keeps that page on the left and shows your open tabs on the right. Select a tab to fill the second pane, or select the pane and type a website address in the address bar.
This is useful when you need to check the same detail on two pages—for example, comparing prices while shopping or dates while planning a trip. Mozilla describes Split View as a way to compare information while shopping, planning trips, or doing research.

Put two tabs you already have into Split View
- Select the two tabs in Firefox’s tab bar.
- Right-click or Control-click one of the selected tabs and choose Open in Split View.
If the two selected tabs are far apart in the tab bar, Firefox places the new split beside the active tab.

With one tab active, hold Alt on Windows or Linux, or Option on macOS, and click another tab in the same window. Firefox opens the pair in Split View.

Resize, swap, or separate the pages
- Resize: Drag the vertical divider between the pages to change their relative widths.
- Find controls: Use the Split View icon in the address bar, the three-dot control in the footer, or a tab’s context menu.
- Swap sides: Choose Reverse Tabs.
- Keep both pages open but end the split: Choose Separate Tabs from the tab context menu.
- Close the pair: Choose Close Both Tabs. Closing either tab also ends the split view.
Know the limits and how reopening works
- Each Split View contains two tabs. Mozilla says you can create an unlimited number of separate split views.
- Pinned tabs cannot currently be added to a split view.
- Find in Page searches only the active pane.
- Split views return when Firefox restores a window with Open previous windows and tabs enabled, and when you reopen a recently closed window. Reopening closed tabs with Ctrl+Shift+T on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+T on macOS, does not restore a split view.
What happens with tab groups
Firefox uses the active tab’s group to decide where to create the split. If the active tab is in a group, the split is created there. If only the other selected tab is grouped, Firefox removes that tab from its group and creates the split where the ungrouped tab was. If the tabs belong to different groups, Firefox creates the split in the active tab’s group.
If “Add Split View” is missing
Make sure you opened the context menu on a browser tab, not on a bookmark. In one Mozilla Support report, a reader mistook the vertical-tabs list for something other than tabs and looked for the option in the wrong place.
