Choose a checking schedule and alert actions, then save the monitor to your Watchlist. The key choice is whether checks run locally in Edge or in Distill’s cloud: local checks require your device and browser to stay available; cloud checks can continue while they are off.
Install Distill Web Monitor in Edge
- Go to Distill’s Web Monitor page and follow its “Add To Edge” link to the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store. Install the extension there. Distill lists Edge as a supported platform; its extension guide says the documented Chrome-extension steps also apply to Edge. See Supported Platforms.
- Open the webpage you want to monitor. In Edge, open the Extensions control and pin Distill if you want its droplet icon readily accessible.
- Select the Distill icon to begin creating a monitor.

Monitor the whole page
Choose Monitor full page when changes anywhere on the page matter. Distill compares the page content it checks at each run.

Monitor a selected part
Choose Monitor parts of page to track a specific section, such as a price or status field, rather than unrelated page changes. Select the area in the visual selector, review the preview to confirm it covers the intended content, and save the selection. Then choose the device, optionally name the monitor, and set its checking schedule.

Set alerts
Add alert actions if you want to be notified when Distill detects a change. Distill’s available alert methods depend on the subscription plan. Its guide says email and SMS require signing in and adding account details. Save the monitor; it will appear in your Watchlist. Decide whether checks should run locally or in the cloud

Intervals are vendor-stated limits and may change. Cloud checks use plan resources and are limited by plan; Distill says extension checks are unlimited while cloud checks count against those resources. See Local Monitor vs. Cloud Monitor and Supported Platforms for the distinctions.
Distill’s pricing page, accessed October 3, 2026, listed the free tier as including 1,000 cloud checks per month and two devices, plus 30 email alerts per month (email only) and 100 browser push notifications per month. These are vendor-listed plan quantities, not independent measurements, and can change; confirm the live pricing page before relying on them.

Keep local monitoring working on dynamic pages
Distill says background browser checking is best suited to static pages and does not work for pages with dynamic content. If a background check misses content, try a tab, window, or sticky window as described in its extension guide. Distill also points to its Desktop App for pages that do not show content in an inactive tab; its apps page labels desktop apps as public beta, so treat that as a beta alternative rather than a stable Edge feature.

After setup, inspect the selected region and check log to verify that the monitor is capturing the right content and detecting the changes you care about. If a monitor must run while your PC is off, choose cloud monitoring instead of relying on a local Edge check.
Troubleshoot common problems
- Distill’s icon is hard to find: Open Edge’s Extensions control and pin Distill so its icon is accessible from the toolbar.
- The monitor reports irrelevant changes: Edit the monitor to select only the page region that matters, then review the selection preview before saving.
- A background check misses changing content: Distill documents background checks as unsuitable for dynamic pages. Try a tab, window, or sticky window, then confirm results in the check log.
- Checks stop when Edge closes or the computer sleeps: That is expected for a local monitor. Keep the device and browser available, or use a cloud monitor.
- Email or SMS alerts are unavailable: Sign in and add the required account details for those methods, and check whether the alert is available on your plan.
- The monitor runs less often than expected: Check the selected monitor mode, plan, and current vendor-stated interval limits. Cloud checks also consume plan resources.
