Claude can write and refine WordPress content, while WordPress saves it as an unpublished draft. The simplest route is to copy Claude’s finished text into the WordPress editor and save it as a draft. For a repeatable workflow, a separately configured integration can send the content to WordPress’s REST API with status set to draft. The API supports that status; it does not establish that Claude has a built-in connection to your site.
Choose how to transfer Claude’s draft
There are two practical approaches. Manual transfer needs no API setup; an API integration can reduce repetitive copying but requires configuration and credentials.

| Approach | Setup and repeatability | Formatting and errors | Control over publishing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copy and paste | Minimal setup; repeat the transfer for each article. | You can inspect formatting while pasting, but should check the result in the editor. | You choose when to save and publish in WordPress. |
| Separately configured API client or automation | Requires a site-specific API connection; can make repeated transfers more consistent. | Check how the client handles formatting, errors, and the returned post status. | Configure it to request a draft, then verify the result. The API documentation alone does not guarantee that a third-party workflow cannot publish. |
These are workflow trade-offs, not a benchmark of particular connectors. WordPress documents API post creation and draft status, but not a specific Claude connector or plugin’s behavior.
Ask Claude for a reviewable draft
Give Claude the topic, intended reader, desired structure, relevant source material, and a clear instruction to produce content for human review—not to publish it. Ask for the title and body in a format you can transfer to WordPress, and specify any requirements for headings, links, or metadata.
#1 Best Overall
Before transferring the text, ask Claude to check it against your editorial criteria and revise it. Anthropic describes a useful prompt pattern: generate a draft, review it against criteria, and refine it based on that review. Anthropic’s prompting guidance can help you shape that instruction.
- Check factual claims and links against the sources you supplied.
- Check that the draft answers the intended reader’s question and follows your structure.
- Ask Claude to flag anything it could not verify rather than fill gaps with guesses.
This review improves the text; it does not replace your own check before publication.
Save a draft in the WordPress editor
- Generate and review the content in Claude.
- Open the relevant post editor in your WordPress site.
- Enter or paste the title and body. Inspect headings, lists, links, and any other formatting in the editor.
- Save the item as a draft using the editor’s save control. Confirm that it appears as a draft in WordPress.
- Review the saved item before taking any separate action to publish it.
Manual transfer keeps the save and publish decisions in the WordPress editor. The exact editor labels can vary by WordPress version and site configuration.

Create a draft through the WordPress REST API
For a standard post, WordPress documents the route POST /wp/v2/posts, with title, content, and status among the creation fields. A schematic request body is:
Rank #3
{"title":"Working title","content":"Draft body","status":"draft"}
This is an example body, not a complete API setup. Your client must send the request to your own site’s REST API and authenticate with an account permitted to create posts. WordPress’s REST API is provided by individual sites; there is no single central endpoint that can create a post on every site without its URL and permissions. See the Posts REST API reference and the REST API Handbook reference.
For a standard page rather than a post, use the separate POST /wp/v2/pages route. Its documentation also lists draft as an accepted status. See the Pages REST API reference. Custom post types and site-specific integrations may behave differently from these standard routes.

Configure authentication without exposing credentials
WordPress documents Application Passwords as built in since WordPress 5.6. They can be generated from a user’s Edit User page and used for API requests served over HTTPS. Your client still needs suitable permission to create content. Follow the authentication instructions for your particular WordPress installation and integration; WordPress.com has its own developer guidance for authenticated API calls, which should not be assumed to match every self-hosted setup. See WordPress REST API authentication and WordPress.com’s API getting-started guide.

- Keep credentials in the integration’s supported secure configuration, not in content or code shared with others.
- Confirm which WordPress account the client uses and what actions it can perform.
Verify the saved item before publishing
A request that specifies status: draft asks WordPress to save an unpublished draft. Verify the result in your own site rather than assuming an automation handled it correctly.
Best Value
- Check the returned post and confirm its status is
draft. - Open the item in WordPress and inspect its title, content, links, and formatting.
- Check metadata and any block, theme, or plugin behavior that matters on your site.
- Keep publishing as a later, deliberate editorial action.
WordPress’s standard post and page references establish the documented routes and statuses, not compatibility with every page builder, SEO plugin, host, custom post type, or third-party automation. Test any such setup in your own environment.
