Open Settings > Battery > Battery Share, choose the cutoff you want, then place the receiving phone or accessory on the back of the Pixel. It is an emergency top-up feature—not a fast or efficient replacement for a cable or power bank—and Google does not list every Pixel model as a host.
What Battery Share does
Battery Share is reverse wireless charging: power moves from the Pixel’s internal battery through its rear charging coil to a second device. The receiving device must support the Qi wireless-charging standard; Bluetooth pairing is not required.
That can include a Qi-compatible Android phone, iPhone, Pixel Buds charging case, or another Qi-certified accessory. Earbuds themselves do not matter if their case has no wireless-charging coil. A device that charges only through USB-C, Lightning, a proprietary magnetic system, or another non-Qi standard will not charge directly from Battery Share.
Wireless charging normally means charging the Pixel from an external pad. Battery Share reverses that direction. Because energy is lost through transmission and heat, the Pixel usually gives up substantially more battery than the other device receives. Google’s hardware guidance warns that reverse wireless charging significantly reduces Pixel battery life and that real-world charging can be slower: Google’s Pixel specifications.

Which Pixel phones support Battery Share?
As of August 18, 2026, Google’s Battery Share help page lists these hosts. “Not listed” means Google’s current documentation does not identify the model as supporting the feature; it is not an independent claim that the hardware can never reverse-charge.
| Pixel model | Status in Google’s current Battery Share documentation |
|---|---|
| Pixel 5 | Listed |
| Pixel 6 and 6 Pro | Listed |
| Pixel 7 and 7 Pro | Listed |
| Pixel 8 and 8 Pro | Listed |
| Pixel 9, 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL | Listed |
| Pixel 6a, 7a and 8a | Not listed |
| Pixel Fold | Not listed |
| Pixel 9 Pro Fold | Not listed |
| Pixel 10 series | Not listed on the Battery Share support page |

Pixel 10 phones support Qi2 and Pixelsnap as receivers. That describes charging the Pixel from a compatible charger; it does not establish Battery Share host support. See Google’s Pixelsnap Charger page and Qi2 documentation at support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/16479972?hl=en.

Turn Battery Share on
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Tap Battery Share.
- Set the battery cutoff if necessary.
- Place the Qi device on the back of the Pixel.
Google also lets you add Battery Share to Quick Settings, which is convenient when travelling. Menu wording can vary slightly by Android version, language and software update, but the control remains under Battery.
Position the receiving device correctly
- Remove metallic or magnetic attachments from both devices, including MagSafe accessories, ring holders, PopSockets, wallet cards and magnetic plates.
- Take off a thick case if charging does not start.
- Lay the phone or charging case flat against the Pixel’s rear charging area.
- Move it slowly around the upper-to-middle back until a charging animation or battery icon appears.
- Keep both devices still once charging begins.
Google warns that magnetic or metallic objects can interfere with alignment or create heat. Its wireless-charging troubleshooting guidance is at support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/12816122?hl=en.
Choose the Battery Share cutoff
You can set Battery Share to stop when the Pixel reaches a selected level from 10% to 50%. If the Pixel is already below that cutoff, Battery Share cannot start. A higher cutoff protects enough reserve for navigation, calls and authentication while travelling; a lower cutoff gives the other device more opportunity to charge.

Why Battery Share stops automatically
- The Pixel does not detect a receiving device within 30 seconds.
- The receiving device reaches full charge.
- The Pixel or accessory becomes too hot.
- The coils are poorly aligned or power transmission is weak.
- Battery Saver turns on.
- The Pixel starts charging wirelessly itself.
- The Pixel is connected to a wired charger. Google specifically documents this behavior for Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
These behaviors are documented by Google at support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/10107702?hl=en. Charging can slow or pause as temperature protection takes effect; see Google’s battery and temperature guidance.
Battery Share troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm the host: verify that your Pixel appears in Google’s listed models.
- Confirm the receiver: check that the phone or case supports Qi wireless charging, not merely Qi2 magnets or a proprietary system.
- Clear the coils: remove cases, cards, wallets, rings, PopSockets and magnetic or metal attachments.
- Reposition: shift the receiver gradually until the charging indicator appears, then leave it still.
- Cool both devices: move out of sunlight, remove the case, stop demanding apps and wait for the Pixel to cool.
- Check settings: make sure Battery Saver is off and the Pixel is above its Battery Share cutoff.
- Test another Qi device: this helps identify whether the problem is the Pixel or the accessory.
- Switch methods: use a USB-C cable or power bank if transfer remains unreliable.
When Battery Share is useful—and when it is not
| Situation | Better choice |
|---|---|
| Earbuds need a small emergency boost | Battery Share |
| Another phone needs meaningful charge | USB-C cable or power bank |
| Devices must remain usable while charging | Cable |
| No cable is available | Battery Share |
| Hot environment, such as direct sun or a parked car | Cable, if available |
| Maximum efficiency or predictable speed | Cable |
| Several devices need charging | Power bank or wall charger |
A dedicated USB-C power bank is generally the better travel purchase for repeated charging because it preserves the Pixel’s battery and usually wastes less energy. A wireless power bank adds convenience but still has alignment, case and heat limitations. Battery Share is best treated as a built-in emergency option.
Qi, Qi2 and Pixelsnap are not interchangeable terms
Older listed Pixels use Qi wireless charging and do not gain Qi2’s magnetic alignment simply because a case has magnets. Pixel 10’s Qi2/Pixelsnap support is primarily receiver functionality. Google’s Pixelsnap products charge compatible phones and Qi2 devices from an external USB-PD power source; they do not replace Battery Share’s use of the Pixel battery. Magnetic accessories can still interfere with Battery Share on phones whose charging system is not designed for them. Google’s Pixel 10 safety guidance is at support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/16275254?hl=en.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a separate exception: Google says its coil position makes it incompatible with Pixel Stand, although it supports other Qi 1.x chargers. Ordinary wireless-charging support does not prove Battery Share support.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does occasional use harm battery health?
There is no basis for saying that one Battery Share session immediately damages a Pixel. Over time, heat, battery age and charging habits affect battery performance, and Google may reduce charging speed to manage temperature. Avoid using the feature in direct heat and stop if the phone becomes unusually hot.

Can Battery Share charge Pixel Buds?
It can charge a Pixel Buds case when that case supports wireless charging. A case that charges only by USB-C will not work directly.
Does Pixel 10 support Battery Share?
Google’s current Battery Share page does not list the Pixel 10 series. Its Qi2/Pixelsnap receiver capability is not evidence of reverse-charging support.
Can Battery Share work through a case?
Sometimes, but thick, metallic or magnetic cases and attachments can block or destabilize charging. Remove them if charging does not begin.
Will Battery Share fully charge another phone?
Do not expect a predictable full charge. Google publishes no universal Battery Share wattage or guaranteed transfer percentage, and reverse charging significantly reduces the host Pixel’s battery life.

Is wired charging better?
Usually. A USB-C cable is generally faster and more efficient; Battery Share is most useful when a small emergency boost is needed and no cable or outlet is available.
