No stable, official ASUS Android 10 release is confirmed for the ZenFone Live L1 or Live L2. For the Live L1 model ZA550KL, ASUS said in 2023 that system updates and maintenance had ended. Android 10 files discussed online were described as beta/AOSP or unofficial builds, not a normal, supported ASUS update. Live L2 reports are less definitive, but they do not establish a stable official rollout either.
Android 10 status by model
| Phone | What is established | What owners should expect |
|---|---|---|
| ZenFone Live L1 (ZA550KL) | No stable official ASUS Android 10 release is confirmed. ASUS stated that the model would receive no further system updates or maintenance. | Do not wait for an official Android 10 rollout. |
| ZenFone Live L2 | Users reported experimental Android 10/AOSP builds, but the available ASUS community and support evidence does not verify a stable official release. | Do not treat an online Android 10 build as an ASUS update without model-specific confirmation. |
Here, “official Android 10” means stable firmware published by ASUS for the exact phone variant through a supported update or documented installation route. A beta, AOSP image or custom ROM does not meet that standard.
What happened to the Android 10 builds?
ASUS ZenTalk discussions from 2020 and 2021 describe Android 10 for the Live phones as AOSP beta material or work in progress. Some users reported trying Android 10 builds, including on the Live L2, but those reports do not establish that ASUS released a finished, stable ZenUI-based OTA for either model. See the Live L1 Android 10 discussion, the Live L2/AOSP discussion and a thread describing an Android 10 build as beta/AOSP.
That distinction matters: a build can boot Android 10 and still lack the testing, device support, recovery path and release status expected of a supported ASUS firmware update. The earlier uncertainty about whether a stable update would follow should not be read today as evidence that one is still pending.

ASUS’s support position for the Live L1
In a July 2023 ZenTalk response, an ASUS moderator said the ZA550KL would receive no further system updates or maintenance, including for the ZenUI Launcher. ASUS repeated the end-of-maintenance message in an August 2023 discussion. These statements are stronger and more current than the earlier beta-era speculation: the L1 should be treated as out of ASUS update maintenance.
ASUS’s Live L1 downloads page lists Android O-era system software rather than an Android 10 system release. A user report in the ZA550KL update thread identifies build WW-15.00.2004.111 as Android 8.1.0 and gives April 21, 2020 as the package release date. That is a reported WW build, not proof that every regional or chipset variant ended on the same version.

The evidence is less conclusive for the Live L2: it supports saying that no stable official ASUS Android 10 release has been verified, not that ASUS issued a model-wide formal cancellation notice.
Check your exact model and available stock update
“Live L1” and “Live L2” names alone are not enough to identify a compatible firmware file. Region, SKU and chipset variants differ. ASUS community guidance specifically warns users to distinguish chipset variants such as 8917, 8937 and 8940; an image for the wrong variant may keep the phone from booting.

- Record the phone details. On stock firmware, open Settings → System → About phone and note the model name or number, Android version and full build number. Menu labels may vary by region and software version.
- Look for the regional identifier. Record any market or software code in the build information, such as WW or IN. Do not assume a package for one region applies to another.
- Check through the built-in updater. The L1 user guide describes Settings → System → System updates; check for updates there. The exact labels can vary. ASUS’s Live L1 user guide gives the documented path.
- Compare manual firmware only against ASUS’s page for the exact model. A package should be traceable to ASUS and match the model, chipset, region and Android branch before you consider installing it.
A “Your system is up to date” message means the updater has no supported update for that handset and software configuration. It does not certify an AOSP image or third-party ROM as official ASUS firmware.
Why manual Android 10 flashing is risky
There is no safe generic “download this ZIP and flash it” procedure for every Live L1 or L2. A wrong chipset or regional package can cause a boot failure, and a user report describes a ZA550KL becoming stuck in fastboot after an Android 10 installation attempt. Flashing can also erase data, complicate recovery and leave you without an ASUS-supported software path. ASUS’s stable Android 10 discussion covers variant warnings; a separate firmware failure thread points a user toward recovery, downgrade guidance and service support rather than guaranteeing an Android 10 upgrade.

- Back up photos, contacts, authentication codes and other important files before any firmware change.
- Write down or photograph the model, build and recovery state first.
- Do not flash firmware meant for a different chipset, SKU, region or Android branch.
- Do not trust a video or third-party download that labels a file “official” without an ASUS-hosted, model-specific source.
- If the phone is already stuck in fastboot or recovery, stop trying random files. Use ASUS recovery guidance only when the package and model are positively matched, or contact an ASUS service center.
Are custom ROMs an alternative?
A custom ROM is separate from an ASUS update. It may provide a newer Android interface or newer open-source components, but ASUS community guidance identifies custom ROMs as unofficial software. No current, authoritative evidence here establishes supported LineageOS or another actively maintained ROM for these exact Live models, so a specific ROM cannot be recommended.
Custom-ROM installation can require bootloader unlocking and wipe data. Hardware support may be incomplete—camera, audio, radio, VoLTE or fingerprint functions can be affected—and battery life or stability may suffer. Modified software can also create problems with banking, DRM or enterprise apps, and returning to factory firmware may be difficult. Consider it only if you can verify active development for your precise model and have a tested recovery plan.

What owners should do now
If the phone still works for your needs
Keep the latest verified stock firmware available for your exact SKU and avoid random Android 10 packages. Continue updating apps where the Play Store permits, but do not assume that app updates replace operating-system security maintenance.
If you want a newer Android version
Decide whether you mean an ASUS-supported update or are willing to accept an experimental/custom ROM. The evidence does not support waiting for a future official Android 10 rollout; unofficial installation means accepting the compatibility and recovery risks above.
If security, app compatibility or reliability is becoming a problem
For a nontechnical owner, replacing the phone is generally safer than trying to force Android 10 onto an unsupported, aging budget handset. If you choose to keep it, avoid using it for sensitive tasks that require current platform support unless you have independently confirmed that the device meets those needs.
