How to Use Applitools Eyes with Silk Test

Applitools’ reviewed supported-tools list does not name Silk Test. Here’s the cautious screenshot-based integration pattern and the compatibility details to confirm first.

Applitools’ reviewed supported-tools article does not list Silk Test as a native integration. It says users integrating other automation tools should contact Applitools support for the required documentation. A possible architecture is to let Silk Test drive the application, capture screenshots at repeatable checkpoints, and send those images through an Applitools image-based SDK—but the available Java example is from 2018, so verify the currently supported SDK and workflow before building against it.

Does Applitools Eyes support Silk Test?

Silk Test is not named in Applitools’ reviewed list of supported test automation tools. Applitools’ support article, updated June 9, 2023, advises users who want to connect another automation tool or internal test infrastructure to contact support for integration documentation: Applitools support documentation. Confirm directly with Applitools whether it has a current, supported recipe for your Silk Test edition before selecting an SDK or promising compatibility.

This distinction matters: a general image-based SDK can accept screenshots without being a verified Silk Test connector. The available Applitools article describing a Java image SDK is dated July 10, 2018. It demonstrates an image-oriented approach, but does not establish that its artifact or API remains the current recommendation.

How a screenshot-based integration would work

In a conceptual design, Silk Test remains responsible for functional interactions and getting the application into a known state. A screenshot becomes the handoff to Eyes, which compares checkpoint images with baselines; the team reviews results and manages baselines in Test Manager. Applitools describes this capture, server-side comparison, and review flow in its system overview.

  1. Run the existing Silk Test scenario until the interface reaches a stable checkpoint.
  2. Capture the screen using the screenshot mechanism available in your Silk Test edition or existing test harness.
  3. Assign consistent application, test, environment, and checkpoint identifiers in the Eyes workflow.
  4. Pass the image through an image SDK or integration path that Applitools confirms is currently supported.
  5. Finalize the visual test according to that supported API, then inspect the comparison in Test Manager.

This is an architectural outline, not a verified Silk Test code sample. Applitools’ 2018 Java article describes supplying screenshots to an image-based SDK, but its example is not sufficient evidence for a current Silk Test implementation.

What to verify before choosing an implementation

Ask Applitools and consult the documentation for your exact Silk Test release. The available information does not settle the compatibility details below.

  • Which Silk Test edition and release are supported, if any, and whether the integration is for Silk4J or another interface.
  • Which Java/runtime versions are compatible with both your Silk setup and the currently recommended Eyes image SDK.
  • The current SDK artifact coordinates, methods, test lifecycle, and required cleanup or result-reporting steps.
  • Accepted screenshot formats, dimensions, and any image handling required before submission.
  • How to define environments and associate screenshots with the correct baselines.

Do not copy prerequisites from an Applitools Selenium quickstart into a Silk Test setup. That guide’s requirements—including Java, Maven, Chrome, and a matching ChromeDriver—describe its Selenium example, not proof of Silk Test compatibility.

Baselines and dynamic content

A first successful visual run may establish a baseline. Subsequent runs compare new checkpoint images against the saved reference. Review differences in Test Manager; approve an intentional UI change before adopting it as the new baseline, and investigate unexpected changes as possible regressions. Applitools explains baseline review in its Test Manager documentation.

Dynamic content can make comparisons noisy. Applitools’ Selenium quickstart illustrates match-level choices for changing page regions. Apply comparison behavior deliberately: mask or relax matching only for content that genuinely should not trigger a visual difference, rather than hiding broad areas that could contain regressions.

Screenshot alternative: ScreenshotNeo

If your immediate need is to capture a page image from a URL rather than add visual-baseline comparison to Silk Test, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It does not replace Eyes’ baseline comparison or establish a Silk Test integration; it is an alternative for generating clean page captures.

Or skip the browser setup:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters. Before capture, it accepts consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; those steps can be disabled. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include page-verdict and billing headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
