You can get a useful first-pass critique by giving an image-capable AI assistant a clear screenshot, explaining who the page is for and what action it should prompt, and asking for evidence-based observations—not a conversion prediction. Treat the answer as design hypotheses to check, not as user research or proof that a change will improve results.
What AI vision can—and cannot—tell you
A vision-capable assistant can inspect a screenshot and respond to questions about visible content, layout, text, and interface elements. It can help you notice whether the offer seems apparent, whether a call to action (CTA) stands out, or whether visible sections appear coherent.

A screenshot does not reveal whether controls work, how quickly the page loads, what analytics show, whether the page is accessible under different conditions, or whether visitors understand it. AI critique also does not establish conversion performance. Use it to generate questions and possible revisions, then validate those against the live page, its design intent, and real users.

Prepare the screenshot and context
Capture the relevant viewport
Use a clear screenshot of the page in the context you want reviewed. If the mobile and desktop layouts differ, provide separate screenshots and identify each one as mobile or desktop. Do not ask the assistant to infer mobile behavior from a desktop image.
#1 Best Overall
Tell the assistant what the page is meant to do
In the message accompanying the image, briefly state the intended audience, offer, primary conversion action, and traffic source if you know it. These details give the assistant criteria for judging the page instead of inviting an untethered opinion. OpenAI’s image-evaluation guidance likewise frames evaluation around stated instructions and constraints: OpenAI Cookbook image-evaluation guidance.
Send the image through a supported route
Image upload and input options vary by assistant and product. OpenAI’s API documentation describes supplying a fully qualified image URL, a base64 data URL, or a file ID, and supports multiple images in a request: OpenAI images and vision guide. For other products, check the documentation for the exact chat or API workflow, accepted formats, and limits before building around it.
Use a focused review prompt
Ask for a small, consistent rubric and require the assistant to separate what it can see from what it is inferring. This prompt works as a starting point; replace the bracketed details and attach the screenshot:
Rank #2
Review this [desktop/mobile] landing-page screenshot for [audience] considering [offer]. The intended primary action is [action]. First describe what you can directly observe. Then assess: (1) whether the offer and page purpose are apparent, (2) visual hierarchy and the prominence of the primary CTA, (3) legibility of the headline, supporting copy, and CTA, (4) whether sections and controls look coherent and usable, and (5) any visible inconsistencies. For every issue, point to the visible evidence, explain why it may matter to this audience, suggest one specific revision, and label uncertainty. Do not infer conversion performance from the screenshot.
The rubric covers purpose, hierarchy, readability, coherence, and visible inconsistencies without treating an aesthetic preference as a result. OpenAI’s UI-evaluation guidance offers relevant dimensions such as instruction following, layout and hierarchy, in-image text legibility, interface realism and usability, and lightweight human feedback. Its example concerns generated interfaces, not a conversion study of live landing pages. The guidance notes that “Labels, headings, and calls to action need to be readable and unambiguous.” Read the OpenAI Cookbook guidance.
Check the feedback before changing the page
- Verify each observation in the image. Check whether the quoted or described text is actually present and whether the element is where the assistant says it is.
- Separate visible evidence from interpretation. “The CTA is below the hero copy” is an observation; “visitors will miss it” is a hypothesis about behavior.
- Check against the intended design and audience. An element that looks unclear in isolation may make sense in context the image does not show.
- Investigate questions a screenshot cannot answer. Test interactions and loading on the live page; use analytics for observed behavior and ask representative users about comprehension, trust, hierarchy, and task completion.
- Turn recommendations into testable revisions. Make a specific design change, then use an appropriate evaluation method to learn whether it helps. Do not treat the assistant’s confidence or wording as measured evidence.
Image interpretation can be wrong: text may be difficult to read, image resizing may affect what is visible, and precise spatial localization can be unreliable. OpenAI’s image-input FAQ discusses these limitations and suggests annotating an image to draw attention to a specific area. If you provide a crop, retain enough surrounding context to show the element’s role in the page. OpenAI ChatGPT Image Inputs FAQ.

Compare assistants by workflow, not unproven rankings
OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google document image-input workflows, but the available documentation does not establish which assistant gives the best landing-page critique. Choose based on the workflow you need and verify the same rubric yourself rather than assuming a general model ranking predicts quality for your page.
| What to compare | What to check |
|---|---|
| Input route | Whether the product’s chat interface or API accepts your intended route, such as upload, URL, base64, or file reference. |
| Image handling | Supported formats and limits, multiple-image support, and whether text remains readable at the image detail or resolution you use. |
| Review consistency | Whether you can apply the same rubric and get observations that distinguish uncertainty from direct visual evidence. |
| Privacy, access, and cost | The applicable data-handling terms, availability, and cost for your particular workflow. |
| Human verification | How much time it takes to inspect claims and validate questions that require user or live-page evidence. |
Official image-documentation pages include OpenAI’s vision guide, Anthropic’s Claude vision documentation, and Google’s Gemini image-understanding documentation. Their existence confirms documented image workflows, not comparable landing-page critique quality.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot without configuring a browser capture workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return an image or PDF. For this review workflow, capture the intended page and viewport, then submit the resulting image through your assistant’s supported image-input route. ScreenshotNeo’s cookie-banner, popup, and chat-widget removal runs before capture; these steps can be turned off. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the result identified in response headers. Its MCP server provides the take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents.
For a simple capture, replace the example URL and API key, then see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options:

The default setup need not be limited to this basic request: ScreenshotNeo also supports viewport and device settings, full-page and element captures, image formats, PDF options, custom CSS and JavaScript, wait conditions, request blocking, caching, and other capture controls.

- The assistant cannot see the image. Use an image-input route supported by that exact product, and check that the attachment or image reference was actually included in the request.
- The assistant misreads a headline or button. Provide a clearer image or a crop that keeps surrounding context; ask it to quote only text it can read confidently. Verify the wording yourself.
- The response is generic. Add the audience, offer, primary action, and device context, then ask for a specific visible example and one proposed revision per issue.
- The assistant claims an element is misplaced or missing. Check the screenshot directly. If localization matters, annotate the target area or provide a contextual crop; do not accept a location claim without verification.
- The assistant predicts a conversion lift. The screenshot cannot substantiate that outcome. Reframe the response as a hypothesis and validate it with suitable user feedback or performance evidence.
- Mobile feedback does not fit the desktop page. Review each actual layout in its own viewport and label the screenshots so the assistant does not conflate them.
Frequently asked questions
Can I upload a screenshot and get feedback?
Yes, if the assistant supports image input. Available input routes depend on the product; for the API options documented by OpenAI, see its images and vision guide.
Should I provide the whole page or a crop?
Use the whole relevant page or viewport when you need feedback on hierarchy and section flow. Add a contextual crop when one small area needs closer attention, while preserving enough surrounding interface to explain its role.
Can AI screenshot critique tell me whether a landing page will convert?
No. A screenshot review can raise design hypotheses, but it does not measure visitor behavior or establish conversion impact.
