Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo loop a prerecorded video in a scheduled YouTube Live event, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, send the video to it using an encoder that can repeat media, then start the event after the feed appears in Live Control Room’s preview. The event creates the watch page and schedule; the encoder supplies the video and audio, and its loop control repeats the file.
What you need before you schedule
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- A prerecorded video and an encoder that can play and repeat it. YouTube supports encoder software and hardware, but looping controls depend on the encoder you choose.
- Access to the scheduled event’s stream URL and stream key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Enough time to test the feed before the event. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours beforehand and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event.
A scheduled event and a live feed are separate: scheduling establishes the event and its watch page, while the encoder sends the moving picture and sound. Scheduling alone does not make YouTube repeat a video.

Schedule and run the prerecorded loop
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, select Manage, then schedule a stream. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, and viewers may be able to select “Notify me” for a reminder. See YouTube’s live-streaming settings.
- Configure your encoder. Open the prerecorded file in the encoder’s media playback feature and enable its repeat or loop control. Confirm the encoder’s own instructions for looping and any scheduled-start behavior; YouTube does not specify one universal loop setting that applies to all encoders.
- Connect it to the scheduled event. Copy that event’s stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder. Use the key for the event you scheduled. YouTube cautions: “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep it private; anyone with access may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder early and check the preview. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event. In Live Control Room, confirm the video and audio appear in the preview, check stream health, and verify that viewers can reach the watch page. Use an unlisted test event if you need a private rehearsal. Refer to YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Start the YouTube event. When the preview is ready, select Go live in Live Control Room, unless you intentionally enabled and configured the event’s auto-start setting. Starting the encoder sends the feed; it is not necessarily the same as starting the public event.
- Stop the run and preserve the recording. Stop the YouTube event and encoder when the planned stream ends. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording or other separate archive for an extended loop rather than relying on YouTube’s archive alone. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Encoder settings to check
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance as the baseline, then test the actual feed. YouTube lists RTMP or RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport and a two-second keyframe interval.
Do not assume one resolution or bitrate fits every file and connection. Match the encoder’s output to YouTube’s current guidance and the source video, and check stream health during a representative test. Confirm that the loop repeats cleanly, audio is present, and the preview remains stable before relying on the scheduled event.

Choose a computer or hardware encoder
| Route | What it does | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Computer with software encoder | Plays the prerecorded file and sends its video and audio to YouTube. YouTube supports encoder software. | Where the encoder’s repeat control is; whether it supports the required start workflow; that the computer will stay available for the stream; and whether it can record a local copy. Sleep, power, and reconnect behavior vary by computer and encoder. |
| Dedicated hardware | YouTube’s encoder guide identifies the AJA HELO Plus, whose PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. | Whether hardware scheduling suits your setup, how local recording works, and current price and availability. Those details are not established by YouTube’s guide; check with the manufacturer and seller before buying. |
Copyright and channel considerations
Before streaming, make sure you have the rights needed to use the video and its audio on YouTube. A scheduled event and a successful encoder connection do not grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted material. Review YouTube’s current copyright guidance and channel monetization policies if monetization is a goal: repeating a video does not by itself establish that a channel meets monetization requirements.
Eligibility also matters: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days to stream. If the option to schedule or go live is unavailable, check channel eligibility and restrictions in YouTube Studio before troubleshooting the encoder.

Troubleshooting
- No video appears in the preview: Confirm the encoder is sending to the scheduled event’s stream URL and key, and that its media playback is running. Check the encoder’s own output status and Live Control Room stream health.
- The video plays once and stops: Enable repeat or loop in the encoder’s media playback controls. The scheduled YouTube event does not provide a universal prerecorded-file loop setting.
- The preview works but the event is not public: In Live Control Room, select Go live unless configured auto-start is enabled. Confirm the event’s scheduled time and watch-page access.
- Audio or picture is missing or unstable: Check the selected file and encoder audio/video inputs, then compare output format, codec, frame rate, bitrate mode, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current encoder settings. Test again and monitor stream health.
- The stream ends when you leave the setup: On the computer route, confirm the computer and encoder remain powered and connected; sleep and reconnect behavior depend on the device and software. Consider dedicated hardware or cloud operation if you do not want a home computer to run the feed.
- A long stream has no archive: YouTube may not capture streams that exceed 12 hours. Make a local recording or arrange a separate archive plan before starting a longer run.
- The stream cannot be started: Check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction has been applied within the past 90 days.
Or let it run in the cloud
