Yes. A Samsung Galaxy tablet can connect to a remote computer using an Android remote-access app. For a Windows PC, Microsoft’s Remote Desktop route requires the computer accepting the connection to run Windows Pro; Chrome Remote Desktop is another documented option for Mac, Windows, and Linux hosts. Samsung DeX can make the tablet’s Android interface more desktop-like, but it is not itself the remote-access connection.
Can a Samsung tablet work as a remote desktop?
It can act as the client: the tablet runs an app that connects to a computer elsewhere. The computer must be available, configured to accept remote access, and reachable over the network. The app and host platform determine how the connection is set up and which tablet inputs or display features are supported.

Which remote-access route fits your computer?
| Route | Documented host computer | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Remote Desktop | Windows Pro PC. Windows Home cannot host incoming Remote Desktop connections, according to Microsoft. | Enable Remote Desktop on the PC and make sure it is reachable on the network. For access from outside the host’s local network, Microsoft identifies VPN or port forwarding as network options. |
| Chrome Remote Desktop | Mac, Windows, or Linux computer, according to Google’s Android help page. | Follow Google’s instructions for setting up access to the computer and connecting from Android. The cited documentation does not establish comparative performance or feature parity with Microsoft’s route. |
For Microsoft’s route, the key distinction is the host edition: the Galaxy tablet can be an Android client, but the Windows PC receiving the connection must run Pro. If it runs Home, consider Chrome Remote Desktop or another supported approach rather than expecting Windows Home to accept an incoming Microsoft Remote Desktop connection. How do you connect a Galaxy Tab to a Windows PC?
1. Check the Windows edition and host eligibility
On the PC you want to control, confirm that it runs Windows Pro. Microsoft says Windows Home cannot act as an incoming Remote Desktop host. If the device is managed by work or school, check with its administrator before changing settings; organizational policy may control remote access.
2. Enable Remote Desktop on the PC
In Windows settings, enable Remote Desktop and note the PC name. Leave the computer powered on and connected to a network when you expect to access it. A sleeping, shut-down, disconnected, or unconfigured host will not be available for a new session.

3. Add the PC in the Android client
On the Samsung tablet, open Microsoft’s Android Remote Desktop client, add the PC using its name, and sign in with an account permitted to access it. Microsoft’s support instructions call it the “Remote Desktop app”; app names and labels can change, so consult the current linked instructions if the wording on your device differs.
4. Choose how the tablet reaches the PC
When both devices are on the same local network, configure the connection for that network. To reach the PC from outside it, Microsoft identifies VPN or port forwarding as ways to provide network access. These are network configuration choices, not capabilities automatically switched on by installing the tablet app. Ask your network administrator for the approved method on a work or school PC, and do not expose remote access to the internet without understanding the security implications.

Does Windows Home support Remote Desktop hosting?
No—not as an incoming host for Microsoft’s built-in Remote Desktop connection. Microsoft specifies Windows Pro for the PC accepting the connection and says Windows Home cannot host incoming Remote Desktop connections. A Windows Home PC may still be accessible through a different remote-access product whose documentation supports that host platform; Chrome Remote Desktop, for example, lists Windows among its supported host systems.
How can you access a Mac or Linux computer?
Google’s Chrome Remote Desktop documentation provides Android instructions and lists Mac, Windows, and Linux computers as host platforms. Set up access on the computer and then connect from the tablet following Google’s current instructions. The cited documentation establishes availability for those platforms; it does not establish that the experience, controls, or capabilities match Microsoft Remote Desktop.

What does Samsung DeX add?
Samsung DeX provides a desktop-style environment for Android apps on compatible Galaxy hardware. It can make the tablet feel more suited to a desk workflow, but it does not create a connection to a PC: a remote-access app and a properly configured host are still required. How a particular remote desktop app handles a keyboard, mouse, touch input, or external display depends on that app and the tablet.

Samsung Knox documents keyboard and mouse use during its own Knox Remote Support sessions in DeX. That product-specific guidance should not be assumed to describe every remote-access app. Knox also says Knox Remote Support sessions are no longer supported in DeX mode on Android 16 / One UI 8.0 or later; this limitation concerns Knox Remote Support, not all remote desktop apps. Consult Samsung Knox’s DeX remote-session guidance and its current minimum requirements for product- and version-specific details.

How to make the tablet setup more comfortable
A compatible Bluetooth keyboard and mouse can make typing and pointer-based work more practical at a desk. They are optional physical input accessories: they do not provide remote access and cannot make an incompatible computer support a connection. Confirm accessory compatibility for your specific tablet model before buying; the cited sources do not establish a universal model-by-model compatibility list.
- Use the tablet’s touch controls when they suit the task; add a keyboard or mouse when text entry or pointer control matters.
- Check the remote-access app’s current guidance for its own keyboard, mouse, DeX, and display behavior rather than assuming support carries over from another app.
- For an organization-managed computer, follow the organization’s remote-access and network policies.
Secure the connection before using it
Microsoft recommends strong, unique passwords for accounts allowed to connect remotely and identifies Network Level Authentication (NLA) as an added security layer. Keep the host computer configured according to Microsoft’s guidance. If access must work from beyond the local network, use a VPN or other network arrangement approved by your administrator; port forwarding requires deliberate network configuration and should not be treated as an automatic or risk-free setting.
For setup details, see Microsoft Support’s Remote Desktop guide and Microsoft Learn’s instructions for allowing Remote Desktop access.
Quick Recap
What if the connection will not work?
- The PC cannot be added or reached: verify the host runs Windows Pro for Microsoft Remote Desktop, Remote Desktop is enabled, and the PC is powered on and network-connected.
- It works at home but not elsewhere: the host may only be reachable on its local network. Ask the network administrator about the approved VPN or port-forwarding configuration.
- You are using a Mac, Linux, or Windows Home host: Microsoft’s built-in Windows Remote Desktop host requirements may not fit. Google documents Chrome Remote Desktop for Mac, Windows, and Linux hosts; follow its setup instructions.
- Keyboard, mouse, DeX, or external display behaves differently than expected: check the specific remote-access app’s current support information. Knox Remote Support documentation applies to that product and should not be generalized to other apps.
