You can use a compatible GoPro as the camera in YouTube’s browser-based webcam livestream flow: connect it to your computer by USB-C, complete GoPro’s webcam setup on both devices, then select the GoPro in YouTube Studio’s webcam workflow. For the documented HERO10 Black setup, a capture card is not required for this basic USB connection.

Confirm your GoPro model and computer
Check GoPro’s current webcam instructions and software requirements for your exact camera and operating system before installing anything. GoPro’s HERO10 Black manual documents webcam mode and a USB-C connection, but that does not establish identical setup steps for every GoPro model or computer.

GoPro’s Mac App Store listing names HERO8 Black and newer as supported, including HERO8, HERO9, HERO10, HERO11 and HERO12 Black; it excludes HERO11 Mini and MAX. Check the GoPro Webcam app listing for macOS and consult the HERO10 Black manual for its documented procedure.
Make sure your channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The account holder must be at least 16 to livestream. Prepare a USB-C data connection
The HERO10 manual directs you to connect the camera to the computer with the included USB-C cable. Use that cable if available; a replacement data cable is relevant only if the included one is missing or defective. A basic USB webcam setup does not inherently require a capture card.
Set up the GoPro as a webcam
- Check the model-specific instructions. Open GoPro’s current webcam setup guidance for your camera and computer. The HERO10 Black manual says webcam mode is the camera’s default mode and directs users to connect with the included USB-C cable.
- Connect the camera to the computer. Plug the USB-C cable into the GoPro and the computer, then follow GoPro’s on-screen or software instructions for your operating system. Both the camera and computer must be configured for webcam mode before going live; the manual states, “Both your GoPro and computer must be set up for webcam mode before you go live.”
- Check that the computer recognizes the camera. Complete any steps specified in GoPro’s current instructions, and keep the camera connected. Exact app installation and operating-system steps can differ, so do not assume the macOS app procedure applies to Windows.
GoPro also documents starting a live stream through its Quik app. That is a separate camera-to-platform workflow; it is not the same as selecting the GoPro as a webcam in YouTube’s browser flow. GoPro’s overview is at Master the Modes: How to Live Stream.

Go live from YouTube’s webcam flow
- Sign in to the eligible YouTube channel in a supported browser. YouTube’s webcam help page lists Chrome 60+ and Firefox 53+ as compatible.
- In YouTube, select Create > Go Live > Webcam.
- Enter the stream title and description, and set the intended privacy option.
- Use the camera selector to choose the GoPro and the microphone selector to choose the audio source you want. Do not assume the camera is selected automatically.
- Review the preview and audio, then select Go Live when ready.

Rehearse and check stream quality
Test the full setup before an event. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality and leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream bitrate. For example, if your stream uses a particular bitrate, your available upload bandwidth should be at least 1.2 times that bitrate; this is a headroom recommendation, not a required stream bitrate. - Check framing and confirm the GoPro is aimed where you intend.
- Review focus and exposure in the YouTube preview.
- Speak or play test audio and confirm the selected microphone is the one YouTube receives.
- Check your upload connection and retain the recommended bandwidth headroom.
- Use a private or unlisted rehearsal where appropriate, then confirm the event’s intended privacy setting before the public broadcast.

The GoPro does not appear as a camera
- Recheck the model and operating-system compatibility in GoPro’s current instructions; the Mac App Store listing does not establish Windows support.
- Confirm the camera is connected by USB-C and that you have completed the webcam configuration on both camera and computer.
- If the included cable is missing or defective, try a suitable replacement data cable rather than assuming any cable or adapter will work.
- Return to YouTube’s camera selector after the computer setup is complete and check whether the GoPro is available.
YouTube shows the wrong camera or microphone
Open the device selectors in the webcam setup flow and explicitly choose the intended camera and microphone. Check the preview and make a short audio test before going live.

The preview stutters or the stream is unreliable
Check the upload connection and compare available upload bandwidth with the stream bitrate, retaining YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. YouTube’s streaming tips also recommend testing and monitoring the stream before an event.
The webcam controls or app steps do not match
Setup can vary by GoPro model and operating system. Use GoPro’s current instructions for the exact combination instead of applying the HERO10 manual or macOS app steps to another setup without checking.
