To move an existing Palworld world, stop the game and destination server, back up both saves, copy the complete world folder into Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/, and set DedicatedServerName to that folder’s exact name. Start the server only after the copy is complete. Steam worlds can be moved directly; PC Game Pass saves require conversion, and Xbox console saves cannot be downloaded directly.

What you are actually moving
A Palworld dedicated server hosts the world independently of a player’s game client. Pocketpair describes it as “a method used to host a server without hosting the world from the game client.” The migration therefore has two parts: placing the world data where the server can read it, and telling the server which folder to load.

For a Windows Steam single-player or co-op world, the source is normally a folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%PalSavedSaveGames<SteamID64><world-folder>. The destination uses a different root: Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world-folder>/. The alphanumeric world-folder name is an identifier, not a label you should replace with a nickname.
A normal world folder contains the complete set of files and directories below. Uploading only Level.sav, for example, can omit player data or settings.

Before you copy anything
- Load the source world once, wait for its save to finish, then quit Palworld normally.
- Stop the destination server. Do not copy into a running server; open files can be skipped or left in an inconsistent state.
- Make a separate backup of the source world and the destination server’s existing
SaveGames/0/directory. Store the backups outside the folders you are about to overwrite. - Check that the game and server are on compatible versions. A version mismatch can make a save appear broken even when the files were copied correctly.
- Confirm that you can edit the server’s configuration file and either upload files through SFTP or use the host’s file manager.
If the destination already contains a new, unwanted world, keep a backup of it before replacing anything. It may be useful for rollback or for diagnosing a configuration problem.
Steam single-player or co-op: the complete migration
1. Find the source world folder
- On Windows, open File Explorer.
- Paste
%LOCALAPPDATA%PalSavedSaveGamesinto the address bar and press Enter. - Open the folder named with your SteamID64.
- Inside it, identify the world folder. Open it briefly and confirm that it contains
Level.sav,LevelMeta.sav,LocalData.sav,WorldOption.sav, and aPlayersdirectory.
If you have several worlds, use the modified date and the contents of each folder to identify the one you just loaded. Do not rename the folder after you identify it; the server setting must match its name exactly.

2. Create the destination save directory
Many managed hosts create the directory automatically after the dedicated server is started once. If it is missing, start the server one time, wait until it creates its standard files, stop it cleanly, and then open the server’s file manager or SFTP connection. The target directory is:
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/
Do not upload the world into the SteamID64 directory structure. The dedicated server uses the single 0 directory shown above.
3. Upload the entire world folder
- In the destination’s
SaveGames/0/directory, create a folder whose name is the exact source world-folder name, or upload the source folder itself. - Copy every file and the complete
Players/directory into that folder. - Wait for the transfer to finish before editing settings or starting the server.
- Check the remote listing. You should see a path shaped like
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world-folder>/Level.sav, notPal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world-folder>/<world-folder>/Level.sav.
The doubled-folder mistake happens when a file manager opens the uploaded folder and then copies that folder into another folder with the same name. The server will not find the expected files at the resulting depth.
4. Point the server at the folder
Open Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/GameUserSettings.ini. Some Windows-based server packages use the equivalent WindowsServer path instead of LinuxServer; use the path your server installation provides.

Find or add this setting:
DedicatedServerName=<exact-world-folder-name>
Replace the value with the folder name only. Do not include Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/, quotation marks, or a trailing slash. The value is case-sensitive. If the uploaded folder is named 7F3A9C2D11, then DedicatedServerName=7F3A9C2D11 is correct; a changed letter case or an extra space is not.
Save the file after editing it. If the provider exposes separate configuration panels, make the same change in the panel’s server-settings field so that it does not overwrite the file on the next restart.
5. Choose which world settings should win
WorldOption.sav stores local or co-op settings and can override values in PalWorldSettings.ini. If you want the dedicated server’s configured rates, death rules, and other settings to control the migrated world, stop the server and remove WorldOption.sav from the uploaded folder before the first launch. Keep a copy in your backup.
If preserving the original co-op settings is more important, leave the file in place. Avoid changing both sources at once: decide whether the save’s options or the server’s configuration is authoritative, then test one setting after launch.

- Start the server only after the upload and configuration edit are complete.
- Wait for the normal startup sequence to finish rather than joining while files are still being generated.
- Join with a character that is not the original co-op host first, if possible.
- Check for the expected bases, captured Pals, chests, map progress, and other players’ characters.
- Make a fresh backup after confirming that the world loaded successfully.
If the server creates a pristine map, stop it immediately. Continuing to play can overwrite the destination with a new save and make recovery harder.
The co-op host character usually needs separate handling
Moving the world does not always preserve the original host’s character identity. In a co-op save, the host is commonly stored as Players/00000000000000000000000000000001.sav. A dedicated server assigns a new player GUID, so the original host will normally enter the transferred world as a new character even though the world, bases, Pals, chests, and other players transfer.

This is different from losing the world itself. The old host’s inventory and character progress remain associated with the old player file, but the server does not automatically map that file to the new GUID.
Options for the former host
- Create a new character and recover items through normal gameplay or administrator tools.
- Use the community-maintained
palworld-host-save-fixutility to patch the old player file to the GUID assigned by the dedicated server.
The save-fix utility is experimental and community maintained. Back up the complete world before using it. Incorrect patching can affect guild membership, ownership of Pals, or other player relationships. If you use it, identify the new GUID from the server’s player data, keep the original file untouched, and test the result on a copy first.
Moving a world from one dedicated server to another
This case is simpler because the source already uses the dedicated-server layout and player IDs. Stop the old server, download SaveGames/0/<name>/, and preserve the folder exactly as downloaded. Stop the new server, upload that folder to its Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ directory, and set DedicatedServerName to the same name.
Existing dedicated-server player IDs remain valid, so players generally keep their characters without the co-op host conversion described above. Still back up both sides and match the server versions before starting the new instance.

Those files are encrypted or stored in unnamed container records rather than as a normal world folder. A dedicated server cannot load them directly because it expects named files such as Level.sav.
Conversion workflow
- Load the Game Pass world, let it save, quit the game, and back up the entire
wgsdirectory. - Use a current community converter such as XGP Save Extractor or PalworldSaveTools to decode the container and export a normal Palworld world folder.
- Confirm that the exported folder contains the expected files and
Players/directory. - Match the game version and server version before attempting the import; converter compatibility can change when the game’s save format changes.
- Upload the resulting folder to
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/, setDedicatedServerNameto its exact name, and follow the Steam migration steps from the configuration stage onward.
Use only a converter version that explicitly supports your current save format. If the tool exports an empty folder, reports an unknown container, or produces files without Level.sav, do not upload those files as if they were a valid world. Restore your backup and verify the converter’s version support first.
Xbox console, PlayStation, and cross-play limits
Xbox console
Xbox console saves are not directly downloadable as ordinary files. Without first obtaining a normal world folder through a supported route, there is nothing you can upload to the server. A direct Xbox-console import is therefore not generally supported by hosting providers. This is different from PC Game Pass, where a container can sometimes be converted.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPocketpair’s cited dedicated-server guidance also says Xbox players join through a community-server listing rather than by entering an IP address. Plan the joining method before migrating, especially if some players are on console.
PlayStation
Platform support and cross-play rules change by game version. In the version 0.5.0 guidance, PlayStation 5 cross-play is unavailable for the described dedicated-server setup. Check Pocketpair’s current version-specific server documentation before promising that a particular console group can join.
Steam and Xbox/Microsoft Store PC
Pocketpair’s cited documentation lists dedicated-server support for Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store PC, and macOS, while also documenting restrictions on particular cross-play combinations. Treat “supported server platform” and “players can join from every platform” as separate questions.

Troubleshooting a server that starts a new world
The server generates a fresh map
- Verify that the remote path is exactly
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world-folder>/. - Open the remote folder and confirm that
Level.savis directly inside it. - Check that
DedicatedServerNamematches the folder name character for character, including capitalization. - Make sure the setting is in the active
GameUserSettings.ini, underLinuxServerorWindowsServeras appropriate. - Stop the server, correct the path or name, and start it again. Do not keep playing the newly generated world.
Bases appear, but settings are wrong
Check whether WorldOption.sav is present. It can override PalWorldSettings.ini. Remove it only after making a backup if the dedicated server’s settings should take precedence.
Players or inventories are missing
Confirm that the complete Players/ directory was uploaded, not just the level files. For a former co-op host, a new character is expected unless the old player file is carefully repaired to the new GUID.
The world will not load after a Game Pass conversion
Recheck the converter output, game/server version match, and file names. The server requires a normal named world folder; encrypted or unnamed container files from wgs cannot be uploaded unchanged.
The server starts, but players cannot connect
Separate save migration from network access. First confirm that the server loaded the correct world locally. Then check the platform’s joining method, community-server visibility, cross-play availability for the current version, and the server’s normal network settings.
Choosing a hosting setup for this migration
If you are selecting a managed server, compare capabilities rather than relying on a generic “one-click transfer” label. The migration requires all of the following:
- Safe stop and start controls: You need to stop the process before downloading, replacing, or editing saves.
- File access: SFTP, a reliable file manager, or both should allow access to
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/. - Configuration access: You must be able to edit the active
GameUserSettings.iniand, when needed,PalWorldSettings.ini. - Backups: Scheduled backups or downloadable snapshots reduce the risk of a bad upload or experimental player-file repair.
- Version controls: The host should let you select or hold a server version while you match the client and save format.
- Platform support: Confirm support for the players’ actual platforms and cross-play mode, not just the server executable.
- Migration assistance: Support staff who can identify the active configuration path and verify a remote folder can save substantial troubleshooting time.
A provider that lacks file access may still run a new Palworld world, but it is a poor fit when your goal is importing an existing save.
Quick Recap
Final pre-launch checklist
- The source world was loaded and saved before copying.
- The destination server is stopped.
- Both source and destination saves have independent backups.
- The destination contains
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world-folder>/. Level.sav,LevelMeta.sav,LocalData.sav, and the completePlayers/directory are present.DedicatedServerNameexactly matches the folder name, including letter case.- You decided whether to retain or remove
WorldOption.sav. - Game and server versions are compatible.
- You understand that the former co-op host may need a new character or an experimental GUID repair.
- Game Pass files have been converted into a normal world folder, if applicable.
- You have confirmed how Xbox or other console players will join under the current version’s cross-play rules.
