To upload a Facebook video to YouTube, first get a video file you own or have permission to reuse, then upload it in YouTube Studio using Create → Upload videos. For a Facebook Live video you previously shared, Facebook provides a download option in eligible locations; an ordinary Facebook video does not necessarily have one. A download does not give you the right to repost someone else’s video.
Get a video file you can legally upload
Start with the original video export if you still have it. It avoids relying on a copy that may have been processed by Facebook. If you do not have the original, Facebook may let you download a Facebook Live video you previously shared. The available controls can vary by profile, Page, and interface version.

Download a Facebook Live video you shared
- Find the Live video on your profile or Page. On a Page, check the Videos tab or, on the web, the Live tab. Meta also describes finding your Live videos through Activity Log by selecting Your live videos and a date range.
- Open the video full screen and select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Download video, if the option is available, and save the file to your device.
Meta’s download instructions apply to Live videos you previously shared; they do not establish a universal official download method for every ordinary Facebook post. If you cannot find a download option for a video, look for the original file or ask the rights holder for a copy rather than treating a third-party download site as an endorsed method. See Meta’s video help information.
Act promptly with Facebook Live archives
Meta announced that new Facebook Live broadcasts beginning February 19, 2025 can be replayed, downloaded, or shared for 30 days, after which they are automatically removed from Facebook. If you plan to transfer one, download it while it is available. Meta’s separate 90-day notice concerned the transition for older archival Lives scheduled for removal; it is not a general guarantee that every Live remains downloadable for 90 days. Details are in Meta’s February 18, 2025 policy announcement.

Check rights and the file before uploading
Only republish video and audio you created or have permission to reuse. A video being visible on Facebook—or downloadable from your own account—does not make its footage, music, or other material free to post on YouTube. YouTube’s copyright screening can flag some issues, but it does not grant permission from rights holders.
- Use the best source you have: Prefer your original export when available. A platform-downloaded copy may not preserve the original resolution, metadata, or audio licensing.
- Check music and other included material: Confirm you have the necessary rights for YouTube, not just for the original Facebook post.
- Have a compatible video file: If YouTube rejects the file, consult its current list of supported formats or export a compatible copy from the original editing project.
Upload the video in YouTube Studio
On a computer, YouTube’s upload flow is YouTube Studio → Create → Upload videos. Labels can change, so use YouTube’s current upload help if your screen differs.

YouTube says it converts an uploaded video to the highest resolution available for playback on different devices and network conditions. Processing takes time, so a video may not immediately be available at every resolution. YouTube’s upload help also notes that supervised accounts may not be able to upload videos and that up to 15 videos can be uploaded at a time. See YouTube’s instructions for uploading videos.
