What an update changes
RocketMod is the plugin framework used by many Unturned dedicated servers. The original community maintenance ended in 2019. Smartly Dressed Games continued a compatible fork called Legally Distinct Missile (LDM); administrators and plugin authors still commonly refer to the module as RocketMod. The dedicated-server package includes the maintained module, so you usually do not need to find an unrelated third-party download.

The file you replace is the Rocket.Unturned module. It is separate from your Rocket plugins, which normally live under Rocket/Plugins/, and from server configuration files. Updating the module therefore does not mean deleting plugins, wiping permissions, or rebuilding your configuration. A plugin can still stop working if its own binary or dependency is incompatible with the new module or with the current Unturned server version; that is a separate update task.
Choose the update route
| Route | Best for | What you replace | Effort and control | Plugin handling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Dedicated-server Extras copy |
Operators with filesystem access who want the official package | Copy Extras/Rocket.Unturned to Modules/Rocket.Unturned |
Manual, but gives you a clear backup and rollback point | Plugins remain in Rocket/Plugins/; check them separately if they fail |
| RocketModFix standard release | Servers that obtain maintained files from RocketModFix Releases | Remove the old module, extract Rocket.Unturned.Module.zip, and install the included folder |
Manual download and extraction; keep your own backup | Existing plugins and settings are not the module archive; test each one after restart |
| RocketModFix Auto-Installer | Administrators who prefer updates after a restart | Install Rocket.AutoInstaller.zip once |
Less repeated file work, but the installer becomes another component to monitor | Automatic module delivery does not guarantee that every plugin is compatible |
| Hosting control panel | Managed hosts exposing a RocketMod installer | The panel overwrites RocketMod files | Fewest filesystem steps; verify the action completed before restarting | The documented Host Havoc workflow preserves plugins and configuration files, but plugin errors still require separate investigation |
Use the official Extras copy when it is available in your dedicated-server installation. Use RocketModFix when that is the release channel you intentionally maintain. A panel button is convenient only when your provider documents that it installs a current package and preserves your data.

Before you touch the files
Perform the replacement during a maintenance window. A clean stop prevents the server process from holding module files open or writing configuration while you are copying them.
Pre-update checklist
- Confirm that you can access the dedicated-server directory or the provider’s game control panel.
- Tell players the server will be offline and note the planned restart time.
- Stop the server through its panel, service manager, or normal administrative control. Do not copy over a running instance.
- Back up the entire server directory, or at minimum the existing
Modules/Rocket.Unturnedfolder,Rocket/Plugins/, and configuration files. - Record the current module contents or archive the old folder with a date in its filename so you can restore it quickly.
- Check available disk space for the archive and extracted module.
- Make sure you know which installation is active. A machine can contain more than one Unturned server, and copying into an unused directory has no effect.
A backup is your rollback mechanism. Do not rely on the new package as a backup of the old one: once files are replaced, the previous version may no longer be recoverable from the installation directory.

Official method: copy the module from Extras
Smartly Dressed Games’ documented procedure is deliberately short because the dedicated server already ships the current module. The relevant folders are inside the same server installation.
- Stop the server cleanly. Wait until the console or control panel confirms that the process has exited.
- Open the dedicated-server installation. Locate the
Extrasdirectory, then openExtras/Rocket.Unturned. On a Windows installation this may appear with backslashes, such asExtrasRocket.Unturned; on Linux it is normally written with forward slashes. - Open the destination. In that same installation, locate the
Modulesdirectory. The existing destination should beModules/Rocket.Unturned. - Replace the old module. Copy the complete
Rocket.Unturnedfolder fromExtrasintoModules. Allow the file manager to replace existing files, or remove the old destination after confirming your backup and then copy the folder. - Check the folder level. The module files must be inside
Modules/Rocket.Unturned, not inside an extra nested path such asModules/Rocket.Unturned/Rocket.Unturned. The folder namedRocket.Unturneditself should be a direct child ofModules. - Start the server. Use the same service, script, or panel you normally use. Do not launch a different test installation by mistake.
- Read the startup console. Look for Rocket/LDM module loading messages, then watch for plugin load failures, missing dependencies, or exceptions. A successful process start alone does not prove that every plugin loaded.
This operation replaces the framework module only. It does not require deleting Rocket/Plugins/, player data, maps, permissions, or configuration files. If a plugin reports an incompatibility, leave the module replacement in place and troubleshoot that plugin as a separate component.

RocketModFix release method
RocketModFix documents a release-download workflow for administrators who use its maintained packages rather than the copy shipped in the dedicated-server files.
Standard package installation
- Stop the Unturned server and make the same full backup described above.
- Open the server’s
Modulesdirectory and remove the existingRocket.Unturnedfolder. Delete only that module folder; do not removeRocket/Plugins/or unrelated server data. - Download the current
Rocket.Unturned.Module.zipfrom the RocketModFix Releases channel you normally trust. - Extract the archive to a temporary location. Inspect the extracted structure before copying; the package should contain a folder named
Rocket.Unturned. - Copy that folder directly into the server’s
Modulesdirectory. When prompted, replace files only in the destination module. - Confirm that the final path is
Modules/Rocket.Unturnedand that the archive did not create an additional nesting level. - Restart the server and inspect the console for module and plugin messages.
Deleting the old module first can make stale files less likely to survive, but it increases the importance of a verified backup. If the extracted archive has an unexpected layout or lacks the expected folder, stop and inspect it rather than copying an arbitrary parent directory into Modules.

Auto-Installer option
- Stop the server and create a backup before installing an updater.
- Obtain
Rocket.AutoInstaller.zipfrom RocketModFix and extract it according to that package’s instructions. - Place the installer components in the server installation as directed by the package, keeping the existing module and plugin backups separate.
- Restart the server. The Auto-Installer can receive Rocket module updates during a subsequent restart, so allow the process to finish before judging the result.
- Read the console and verify that the installer ran, the module loaded, and the server reached its normal ready state.
An Auto-Installer reduces repeated manual copying, but it does not remove the need for backups, controlled restarts, or plugin compatibility checks. If an unattended update leaves the server unable to start, restore the backed-up module and disable or remove the installer while diagnosing the failure.
Updating from a hosting control panel
Some managed hosts expose RocketMod as an installable component. On Host Havoc, the documented workflow is:

It introduces powerful new features such as gyro settings, stick curve adjustments, and button-to-mouse mapping, giving you deeper customization and more control than ever before.
- Log in to the game control panel.
- Open the server’s software or mod-management area.
- Click Install Rocketmod.
- Wait for the installation action to complete.
- Restart the server from the panel.
- Check the live console for module and plugin load messages.
The provider says this action overwrites RocketMod files while preserving existing plugins and configuration files. Nevertheless, make a backup before clicking the installer, confirm that you selected the correct server, and do not assume that a preserved plugin is a compatible plugin. If the panel reports success but Rocket does not load, verify the action’s completion status, restart again as documented, and inspect the resulting module path if the panel provides file access.
How to verify the update
Verification should cover both the file placement and the running process.

- Open
Modulesand confirm there is one intendedRocket.Unturnedmodule folder at the direct-child level. - Compare its contents with the source you selected: the dedicated server’s
Extras/Rocket.Unturnedfolder or the extracted RocketModFix package. - Remove obvious duplicate nesting. A path such as
Modules/Rocket.Unturned/Rocket.Unturnedis a common reason for a module-not-found error. - Keep the old archive outside the active module path so the server cannot load two competing copies.
Check the manifest version
The official Rocket.Unturned.module manifest snapshot reports version 4.9.3.18, attributed to Smartly Dressed Games in 2026. Treat that number as a dated snapshot, not a permanent target: the current version can change when the dedicated-server files or maintained release changes. The reliable check is to inspect the manifest in the files you are actually installing and use the latest maintained package available at update time.
Check the startup console
- Confirm that the Rocket/LDM module is discovered and loaded before plugin initialization.
- Look for explicit errors naming a plugin, dependency, assembly, or missing file.
- Check that the server reaches its normal listening or ready state and that an administrator can connect.
- Test one or two representative commands from your most important plugins rather than assuming every feature works.
Do not treat a clean module message as proof that every plugin is current. Framework loading and plugin compatibility are related but distinct checks.

What happens to plugins and configuration?
Your plugins normally remain under Rocket/Plugins/, while configuration files remain in their existing server locations. Replacing Modules/Rocket.Unturned does not require deleting those directories. Keep them intact unless a specific plugin’s documentation instructs otherwise.
A plugin can fail after a Rocket update for several reasons:
- It targets an older Rocket/LDM API or an older Unturned build.
- It requires a dependency that was not installed or was also changed.
- Its release notes impose a minimum module version.
- Its files were damaged or partially overwritten during an earlier manual copy.
- The plugin itself is no longer maintained.
When one fails, identify the exact plugin name and error in the console, then consult that plugin’s release notes and compatibility requirements. Update the plugin separately if a compatible release exists. Do not delete all plugins as a first response; that destroys useful configuration and makes it harder to identify the failing component.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting by symptom
Rocket does not load at all
- Stop the server again.
- Verify that the active installation is the one you edited.
- Check that
Modules/Rocket.Unturnedexists directly underModules. - Correct any extra nesting created during extraction.
- Ensure the old module was not left under a second directory that the loader scans.
- Restore the backed-up module if the files are incomplete, then retry with a freshly verified source package.
The server starts, but one or more plugins fail
Leave the module in place and read the first error for each plugin. Check that plugin’s compatibility release, required dependencies, and supported Unturned/Rocket version. Install only the needed plugin update, restart, and compare the console again. If the plugin has no compatible release, keep it disabled or roll back the module using your backup rather than repeatedly replacing unrelated files.

The panel says installation succeeded, but nothing changed
Confirm that the panel action targeted the correct server and completed rather than merely being queued. Restart through the panel, then inspect the console. If file access is available, check the module path and manifest. If the panel hides the filesystem, provide the host with the server identifier, installation timestamp, and the exact startup error.
Recommended Free Tools
The server will not start after the replacement
Stop further changes and preserve the console output. Restore the backed-up Rocket.Unturned folder, restart once, and determine whether the failure is tied to the new module or to another simultaneous change. If the old module starts successfully, compare the new package’s version and plugin requirements before attempting another update.
Players report lost settings or permissions
A module replacement should not intentionally remove configuration, permissions, or player data. Confirm that you started the same server directory and that the configuration files were not moved or renamed. Restore the backup if files are missing, then review the copy operation for accidental deletion outside Modules/Rocket.Unturned.
Rollback procedure
- Stop the server.
- Move the current
Modules/Rocket.Unturnedfolder out of the active installation and preserve it for diagnosis. - Restore the backed-up
Rocket.Unturnedfolder to the directModulespath. - Confirm that
Rocket/Plugins/and configuration files are still the intended versions. - Start the server and verify the console and representative plugin commands.
- Record the failed version, startup errors, and plugin list before trying a different package.
Rollback is a temporary recovery measure, not a reason to ignore an incompatibility indefinitely. Once the server is stable, identify whether the maintained module, a plugin, or a dependency needs a compatible release.
Recommended maintenance routine
For future Unturned updates, use the same controlled sequence every time: schedule downtime, stop cleanly, archive the active files, install one module source, restart, and inspect the console. Avoid changing the module, plugins, map, and configuration simultaneously; isolating changes makes failures diagnosable. Keep dated backups long enough to cover a normal rollback window, and record which source and manifest version produced each successful startup.
