To use Pixel HiLight, open Settings > System > HiLight on a supported phone and turn on Use HiLight. Google’s current instructions require the Contacts app to be up to date for favorite-contact colors, but do not describe a separate HiLight update or an update schedule for new features.
Which Pixel phones support HiLight?
Google’s support documentation lists HiLight for Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. HiLight is a hardware-supported feature; installing an app update does not make it available on other Pixel models. Google announced the feature on August 13, 2026, and said the three phones would be available through the Google Store and retail partners on August 20, 2026. Google’s HiLight support instructions and its launch announcement describe the supported devices.

How to turn on HiLight
- Open Settings.
- Tap System, then HiLight.
- Turn on Use HiLight.
- On the same screen, choose whether HiLight responds to Speaking with Gemini and Calls from favorites.
HiLight is a light-based cue visible when the phone is face down. Google describes different cues while Gemini listens, thinks, and responds.

- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
- Open Contacts and select the person.
- Tap HiLight under Contact Settings.
- Choose a color. Tap Preview if you want to see it, then tap Done.
Google says favorite-call HiLight works with Phone by Google and WhatsApp. The selected contact color distinguishes that caller’s cue.
What “update HiLight” means
Google’s published instructions specify an update requirement for Contacts, not a standalone HiLight app or a separate HiLight update process. They also do not give a schedule for adding features. An Android system update may change software, but Google’s current HiLight guidance does not promise that a particular update will add a specific capability.

Why HiLight may not appear for calls
Flash notifications are enabled
Google says HiLight will not display for incoming calls when flash notifications are enabled. Check your flash-notification setting if call cues are missing.

A mode is controlling call notifications
HiLight glows by default when modes such as Flip to Shhh, Bedtime, or Do Not Disturb are enabled. To turn it off for a mode, open Settings > Modes, select the mode, then go to People > Calls and select None. Google also instructs users to turn off Allow repeat callers in this configuration. Selecting None turns off ring or vibration call notifications while that mode is active as well.

Google’s documented built-in features are Gemini activity cues and color-coded cues for favorite callers. A separate Google Play app, AuraGlow, advertises additional app-specific notifications and customization for Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold. Its listing says setup uses Android developer options and wireless debugging, and states that the app is not affiliated with Google. It is an optional third-party tool, not a built-in HiLight feature or an official Google update. The listing was updated September 24, 2026; check it for current version and setup details before installing.
