Download the latest DSU package that applies to your system and operating system from Dell Support, install it, then separately confirm the installed DSU version meets that threshold.
What the Dell advisory says
Dell’s DSA-2026-324, initially released October 1, 2026, identifies CVE-2026-86360 as a pathname restriction (path traversal) vulnerability in Dell System Update. Dell says an unauthenticated attacker with remote access could potentially access the filesystem and execute arbitrary code with root privileges. Dell assigns this CVE a CVSS 3.1 base score of 9.6 and rates it Critical; its recommendation is to upgrade at the earliest opportunity.

The version boundary in Dell’s advisory is the key check: versions before 2.3.0.0 are affected; 2.3.0.0 or later are remediated. That is a minimum fix threshold, not a guarantee that 2.3.0.0 is the newest available release.
Before you update
- Establish that Dell System Update is installed. This advisory concerns DSU, not every Dell driver or firmware utility.
- Confirm that the package supports your specific system and operating system. Dell describes DSU for supported PowerEdge systems and supported Windows Server and Linux environments; do not assume a server package is appropriate for a consumer Dell laptop or desktop.
- Use administrator privileges on Windows or root privileges on Linux, as applicable.
- Check Dell’s current support listing for the latest applicable package. Dell’s documentation index lists DSU 2.3.0.1 guide and release-note materials updated September 15, 2026, while the cited 2.3.0.0 download page is older.
Dell’s current guide says ESXi is no longer supported beginning with DSU 2.2.0.0. Check the current compatibility information rather than relying on an older package page for your system’s support status.

Download and install the current applicable package
Windows
- Open Dell Support and locate the Dell System Update download applicable to your system and Windows version.
- Download the current Windows installer. Dell’s earlier 2.3.0.0 instructions use a Dell Update Package with an
.exeextension; the current package may differ, so follow its displayed instructions. - Run the installer, approve the User Account Control prompt if shown, and follow the installation prompts. Dell’s guide requires administrator privileges.
- Wait for the installer to report success. Treat that as confirmation that the installer completed, not as proof of the installed version.
Linux
- On Dell Support, select the DSU package applicable to your system and Linux distribution or architecture.
- Download the current installer and open a terminal in the directory containing it. Use root privileges as required by the package instructions.
- For the
.binpackage described in Dell’s 2.3.0.0 instructions, run it from that directory with./followed by the installer filename. Review the displayed package details; those instructions say to pressqto continue andyto install. - Wait for the installer’s success message, then verify the installed DSU version separately.
The commands and prompts above describe Dell’s published 2.3.0.0 package instructions, not a tested walkthrough of every later installer. Follow the instructions supplied with the package you actually download.
Verify that the installed version meets the fix threshold
After installation, confirm the installed DSU version is 2.3.0.0 or later. A success page or message only indicates that the installer reported success; it does not establish which version is installed. Dell’s current 2.3.0.1 guide includes a “Utility version” topic, but the exact version-reporting instruction is not established here. Consult that current topic for the documented Windows or Linux method rather than relying on an assumed command or interface.

If the reported version is below 2.3.0.0, the advisory’s remediation threshold has not been met. Recheck that you installed the correct package for the system, then follow Dell’s current installation guidance and verify again. If DSU is not installed, or your system and operating system are not covered by the package, do not treat an unrelated Dell update as a DSU security fix.

Dell’s 2.3.0.0 download page lists SHA-256 checksums for these exact files. They are useful only if you downloaded those same files; they do not validate a later release or a differently named package.
