To update Android Auto, look it up in the Google Play Store and tap Update if that option appears. To check the installed version, open your phone’s Settings, search for Android Auto, open Android Auto Settings, and tap Version.

Google says Android Auto is built into the phone as a technology for connecting it to a car display, so a separate download is not ordinarily needed just to use it. During setup, Google’s instructions may also prompt you to update before continuing. Google’s Android Auto setup instructions explain the setup process.

This route is documented in Google’s Android Auto instructions for sending feedback and reporting issues. Settings names and menus can differ by phone maker, so searching Settings is often the quickest way to find the page.
Why can’t I find Android Auto in the Play Store?
Android Auto may not appear like a typical app because it is integrated into Android phones for car-display use and may not have a normal launcher icon. Google says no separate download is required to use the feature. If you are trying to update it, search the Play Store listing; if it does not offer Update, the store is not presenting an update action at that time. Avoid installing a purported replacement from an APK site.

Is Android Auto version different from Android version?
Yes. Android Auto’s version information is on the Android Auto Settings page; the Android operating-system version is checked separately. To see the latter, open Settings > About phone > Android version. That area also provides Android security and system update details, where available. Update availability and timing for Android itself vary by device manufacturer and carrier, as Google notes in its Android version and update guidance.

What if Android Auto still does not work?
For an unreliable wired connection
Check the cable and car connection before treating a connection problem as an app-update issue. For wired Android Auto problems, Google recommends trying a high-quality USB cable shorter than 1 metre and replacing a cable if a previously working setup stops working. The cable should support data and fit the ports on both your phone and vehicle. This is troubleshooting advice for wired connections, not a requirement for updating Android Auto or for wireless use. If you want early access
Beta enrollment is optional. Google warns that beta versions may be less stable and that some features might not work properly. Choose the standard release if reliability matters more than trying features early. See Google’s Android Auto setup and beta information.
Can I check the latest Android Auto version number?
There is no universal version number or complete rollout schedule established here. Check the Version screen on your own phone rather than assuming every brand, region, or user receives an update at the same time. The Play Store listing shows whether an update action is available to you.
