Apple Mail gives you 10 seconds after sending an email to undo it. On iPhone, tap Undo Send at the top of the inbox; on iPad, tap it at the bottom of the email list. You can adjust the delay in Settings, but act immediately if you want to pull a message back.
Unsend an email on iPhone
- Send your message in the Mail app.
- Return to the inbox and tap Undo Send at the top of the screen before the 10-second window ends. Apple documents this timing in its iPhone Mail guide for iOS 27.
Unsend an email on iPad
- Send your message in the Mail app.
- Tap Undo Send at the bottom of the email list before the 10-second window ends. Apple documents this timing in its iPad Mail guide.
Change the Undo Send delay
To change how long Mail waits before sending outgoing messages, open Settings > Apps > Mail > Undo Send Delay on either device and choose a delay. Apple’s cited guides do not list the available delay choices.

What Undo Send can—and cannot—do
Undo Send is a brief opportunity to stop a message immediately after you send it, not a guaranteed way to retrieve an email after it has reached the recipient. Apple’s cited instructions describe the temporary undo window and the delay setting; they do not specify what happens after the window expires. If you spot a mistake, tap the control as soon as it appears.
