To lift the fog of war in Soulmask, find a Barbarian Scout at an eye-marked scout camp near the fog boundary, weaken the scout, choose Deter rather than a normal capture, and interrogate it for map information. The interrogation reveals a substantial area around the camp and gives you a lead to a random point of interest. Simply walking into the fog does not uncover the map automatically.

What “unlocking the map” means in Soulmask
Soulmask does not begin with its entire world map visible. A small portion in the southwest is revealed at the start, while the rest is covered by fog of war. The intended way to expand that revealed area is not to wander indefinitely and hope the fog disappears. You use a scout encounter to obtain map information.

The process has three important parts: finding the correct camp, identifying the correct NPC, and selecting the information-focused interaction. The camp is marked by an eye icon when you are close enough to the fog boundary. The NPC you need is the Barbarian Scout. After reducing its health, select Deter, then use the interrogation or map-information option that appears. A successful interrogation opens a large local section of the map and points you toward a point of interest.
The exact size of the revealed section is not quantified in the available guides, so treat “large area” as a practical description rather than a fixed radius. The point-of-interest lead is also random; it is not a guarantee of one named location or a specific route.

Unlock the map: step-by-step
1. Start from the revealed southwest area
Begin in the portion of the map that is already visible. You do not need to clear every nearby location before attempting the first reveal. Your immediate objective is to reach the edge of the known area and locate a scout camp associated with the fog boundary.
Because the game starts with only part of the map visible, the first trip beyond the known area can feel like a blind run. Steam Community player Elikir described it as having to “run blind for a very short amount of time.” That is a player observation, not a developer guarantee, but it accurately describes the brief period before the first scout interaction reveals more terrain.

Travel toward the border between the revealed southwest section and the unexplored fog. Open the in-game map periodically while moving. When you are in the right vicinity, look for an eye icon. That icon identifies the scout camp you need to investigate.
The icon may not be visible from your starting position. Keep following the edge of the known territory and check the map as you advance. The important distinction is that you are searching for the camp marker, not attempting to reveal the fog by physically crossing into it. Walking into unexplored territory by itself does not clear the fog.
3. Enter the eye-marked scout camp
Once the eye icon appears, travel to that camp and enter it. Camps can contain several barbarian enemies. You may need to deal with other camp members to reach the scout safely, but those enemies are not the source of the map reveal.
Keep your attention on the NPC named Barbarian Scout. The scout is the target that carries the map information. Defeating or interacting with another camp member will not substitute for the scout interrogation.

4. Weaken the Barbarian Scout
Fight the Barbarian Scout until the special interaction becomes available. A community explanation places the trigger at roughly 20 percent health, but that figure is an approximate player report rather than a documented, guaranteed threshold. Do not treat it as an exact number that must be matched in every patch or encounter.
Watch the scout’s health and the interaction prompts rather than continuing to attack automatically. The objective is to leave the scout in a state where the special choice appears, not to finish the fight. If the scout dies, you have passed the point at which the interrogation can be selected.
5. Choose Deter, not a normal capture
When the special interaction is available, select Deter. This is the branch that leads to the map-information interrogation. A normal capture is a different outcome and is not the map-unlocking action described by the available instructions.
Read the interaction choices before confirming. The wording can be easy to miss during combat, especially if other camp members are still attacking. Pause long enough to select Deter deliberately rather than choosing the first available capture-related option.
6. Interrogate the scout for map information
After Deter is selected, choose the interrogation or map-information action. The scout then reveals a substantial section around the camp and supplies a lead to a random point of interest.
Open the map after the interaction completes and confirm that the fog has receded around the camp. The newly visible area is the result of the interrogation; it is not a reward for merely entering the camp. The point-of-interest lead gives you a destination to pursue, but the source does not specify a fixed location, distance, or category for that lead.

Why walking into the fog does not unlock it
The most common misunderstanding is assuming that exploration alone functions as the map-unlock system. In Soulmask, the initial fog remains in place when you simply run into unknown territory. You can move through the unexplored world, but that movement does not automatically convert the surrounding fog into revealed map data.
The scout interaction is therefore the intended reveal loop: approach the boundary, locate the eye-marked camp, weaken the Barbarian Scout, use Deter, and interrogate it. Once the reveal occurs, you can use the newly visible terrain to plan the next trip instead of repeating a long blind search.

Before the first scout camp is found, your map provides limited visual guidance. Afterward, the interrogation gives you both expanded coverage and a point-of-interest objective, making subsequent navigation more deliberate.
Combat and interaction mistakes to avoid
Do not finish the scout too early
The scout must remain alive long enough for the special interaction. If you continue attacking after the prompt becomes available, you can remove the NPC before selecting Deter. Control your damage at low health and look for the interaction option as soon as it appears.
Do not confuse another barbarian with the scout
The camp may contain multiple enemies, but only the Barbarian Scout carries the map information. Clearing the camp without identifying that NPC does not complete the objective. Use the name shown by the game to verify that you are targeting the correct enemy.
Do not select an ordinary capture when your goal is map coverage
Deter is the relevant choice for the reveal. If the interaction menu presents several options, select the one explicitly labeled Deter before opening the interrogation or map-information action.

Do not assume the 20 percent figure is universal
The approximate 20 percent-health description comes from a player explanation. It is useful as a combat cue, but it is not an official threshold. A patch, difficulty setting, enemy state, or interaction-label change could make the prompt appear at a different point. Follow the prompt in your version of the game instead of forcing an exact percentage.
Troubleshooting the first map reveal
The eye icon is not showing
- Move along the edge of the revealed southwest area rather than heading directly into the fog.
- Open the map again after covering more ground; the camp marker is associated with the nearby boundary.
- Check that you are looking for the eye symbol, not a generic camp or enemy marker.
- Approach the suspected camp area in the world and check the map again if the icon was not visible from a distance.
The available instructions do not establish a fixed spawn distance or a precise coordinate for the first camp, so a missing icon should be handled as a navigation problem rather than evidence that the map system is unavailable.
The scout interaction is unavailable
- Confirm that the NPC is the Barbarian Scout.
- Lower its health further while avoiding a killing blow.
- Look for the special interaction prompt instead of relying on a guessed health percentage.
- Make sure another camp member is not interrupting the interaction.
The approximate health guidance is not a documented value, so the prompt itself is the reliable signal.
The scout died before you selected Deter
The documented procedure requires a living scout for the Deter and interrogation choices. The available material does not specify a recovery method for a scout that has already been killed, so do not assume that ordinary camp enemies or a normal capture can substitute for the map reveal. If the camp does not offer the interaction after the scout is gone, look for the next applicable scout encounter rather than treating a different NPC as equivalent.
The map did not expand after interrogation
- Verify that you selected the interrogation or map-information action after Deter, not only Deter itself.
- Close and reopen the map to check the revealed area around the camp.
- Look for the point-of-interest lead, which is part of the successful information result.
- If labels or behavior differ from these instructions, check whether your game has received a patch that changed the interaction.
The available guides do not define a reload procedure, a fixed reveal radius, or a guaranteed visual effect beyond the expanded local map and point-of-interest lead.

A successful interrogation has two stated results:
- Local map coverage: a large section surrounding the scout camp becomes visible.
- A point-of-interest lead: the game supplies a destination or clue pointing to a random point of interest.
It does not follow that one interrogation reveals the entire world. The source describes a large local section, not a complete map, and gives no numerical area measurement. You should expect to repeat the broader exploration loop as you reach other fog boundaries.
Likewise, the third-party location counts sometimes associated with Soulmask maps are not measurements of one interrogation. They describe database coverage compiled by an external mapping service. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing an interactive map with the fog currently visible in your save.

An external map is optional. It can help you organize destinations after the game has supplied them, but it is not required to unlock the fog and does not replace the Barbarian Scout interaction.
One current example is the Soulmask mapping service operated through TH.GL. Its Soulmask.th.gl locations guide lists 221 known locations across two maps, identified as a 2026 listing. A companion TH.GL page advertises 35,602 map locations across two maps, also dated 2026. Those totals are not interchangeable: they describe different database pages or datasets and should not be read as the amount of terrain revealed by an interrogation.

Use an external map for planning, filtering, or tracking only after you understand what the game itself has revealed. A database marker can show that a location is known to the service; it does not mean that your character has uncovered that location in the current save.
Version and source-date cautions
The core procedure is supported by a January 2025 Steam Community player report and a June 2024 Dot Esports guide. The 20 percent health estimate is specifically a community explanation, not an official developer specification. Third-party map counts and advertised features were current to pages crawled or updated in September 2026.
Patch changes can alter scout health thresholds, interaction labels, or map behavior. If your version uses different wording, prioritize the in-game prompt that corresponds to Deter and interrogation. Do not treat the approximate health figure, the unquantified reveal size, or the external database totals as permanent game constants.
