To reach the Dreaming City, progress through the New Light questline until your character has destination access, then open the Director and select the Dreaming City when its map node appears. Bungie lists it as an available destination, but its current support guidance does not name the exact quest step that unlocks it.
Unlock the Dreaming City through New Light progression
- Continue the New Light questline on the character you want to use. Bungie’s general guidance is that destination access unlocks as you progress through New Light; it does not identify a specific Dreaming City mission or step.
- Open the Director and look for The Dreaming City among the destinations.
- Select its node to travel there once it is available.
Bungie’s post-Update 9.7.0 support guide lists The Dreaming City as an available destination. The exact gate and Director label for a new character are not specified in the current support instructions, so older quest names should not be treated as verified current steps. Bungie’s Destiny 2 Activities guide describes destination unlocks generally, and its Update 9.7.0 Support Guide includes the Dreaming City in the destination list.

Do you need Forsaken to visit the Dreaming City?
The current Bungie support sources do not establish that owning the Forsaken Pack is required simply to visit the Dreaming City. Visiting the destination and accessing Forsaken activities are separate questions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Forsaken Pack includes The Shattered Throne dungeon and the Last Wish raid, both accessed through the Dreaming City map, according to Bungie’s Forsaken Pack Guide. Bungie lists the Forsaken Pack as a content pack in its available content guide. Those activities may require the pack; that does not mean the pack is the destination’s unlock.

If the Dreaming City is missing from the Director
- Check whether the character has progressed far enough through New Light to unlock destinations, then open the Director again.
- Do not assume buying the Forsaken Pack will make a missing destination node appear; Bungie’s support guidance does not identify pack ownership as the destination gate.
- If the node remains absent, the current support pages do not provide a more specific quest step or account-specific fix. The exact gate is not established in those instructions.
Forsaken campaign walkthroughs that direct players to start the campaign at the Tangled Shore describe an older path. Bungie says the campaign moved into the Destiny Content Vault with the launch of Year 5 on February 22, 2022. Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault page records that change.

Bungie’s post-Update 9.7.0 guide lists the Dreaming City as available. Update 9.7.0 launched June 9, 2026; Bungie says no further live-service content updates are planned after that release, while health and stability hotfixes may still be issued. This is the status stated in Bungie’s Update 9.7.0 Support Guide.
