Reach Construction level 40 to unlock the Personal Chest spell in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. In ordinary play, each cast is listed as costing 20 Law Runes and 15 Astral Runes, with a five-second cooldown. The spell provides remote access to personal storage; it is different from the Private setting on a placed chest.
Unlock Personal Chest at Construction level 40
Current Dragonwilds guides list Personal Chest as a Construction unlock at level 40. Jagex explains that new spells become available as you level skills and that the skill progression display shows unlock levels, but its magic help page does not give this spell’s specific level. Check the in-game progression or spell tooltip if a later update may have changed the requirement. Jagex’s magic controls guide describes the general unlock and casting system; the exact level is reported by current secondary guides. RuneScape Dragonwilds Wiki’s Construction guide lists level 40.

- Check the unlock: Open the Skills tab and inspect skill progression for the Personal Chest unlock. Jagex documents opening the spellbook with P on PC controls.
- Put it on the spell wheel: Drag Personal Chest into an open spell-wheel slot.
- Select and cast: Press Q to open the wheel, select Personal Chest, and cast it. These are the documented PC controls; remapped keys or other platforms may differ.
- Keep the runes ready: For ordinary play, budget 20 Law Runes and 15 Astral Runes per cast. The listed cooldown is five seconds.

Law Runes are a separate progression concern: the Runecrafting guide lists them at level 50, while Personal Chest itself is a Construction unlock. Each cast uses 35 runes in total according to the listed ordinary-play cost; the five-second figure is a cooldown, not a rune allowance.
Personal Chest is not the Private chest setting
Personal Chest is a spell for remotely accessing personal storage. The Private checkbox is a separate multiplayer feature for a chest that has been placed in the world. Jagex’s 0.9 notes say the owner can open a chest and check Private to lock it; that setting does not unlock or cast the Personal Chest spell. Jagex’s 0.9 patch notes.

Rune costs differ in Creative Mode
Jagex’s July 2025 Creative Mode announcement says spells have no rune costs in that mode. The 20 Law Rune and 15 Astral Rune cost applies to ordinary play as listed by the current secondary guides; do not assume it applies in Creative Mode. Check the mode’s current rules and in-game spell display if you need to confirm behavior after an update. Jagex’s Creative Mode announcement.
