Defeat a boss in Stellar Blade’s main story to unlock that boss’s battle data for Boss Challenge. You can use the mode before finishing the campaign; seeing the ending is required only to fight on Hard. Before each battle, choose your own gear or one of the available presets.
How to unlock Boss Challenge
- Defeat a boss in the main story. Boss Challenge progression uses battle data from bosses you have already defeated.
- Challenge a boss for which you have battle data. The base mode does not have a stated requirement to finish the full campaign first.
- See the game’s ending to unlock Hard difficulty. This condition applies to Hard, not to access to the base challenge mode.
These unlock conditions were set out in the May 23, 2024 PlayStation Blog announcement.

Choose your difficulty and loadout
Before a fight, you can bring Eve’s own gear or select one of the mode’s presets. The official announcement describes a minimum preset as a deliberately constrained challenge and a maximum preset with all skills and stats boosted. It does not publish exact preset values or a complete list of preset variants.
For a tougher run, choose a more constrained setup; for a more powered-up fight, use the maximum preset. Hard difficulty is a separate choice and is available after you have seen the ending.

What happens after a fight
After each challenge, the game automatically analyzes the battle and displays performance metrics. Examples include fight time, perfect parries and dodges, and consumable use. You can use these results to review a run or compare performance with friends.
Boss Challenge rewards
Neurolink Suit
Defeat all 19 bosses from the base game in Boss Challenge on Normal difficulty or higher to earn Eve’s Neurolink Suit, according to the original mode announcement.

Royal Guard Suit
Mann was added as a later Boss Challenge opponent. PlayStation’s May 15, 2025 announcement says overcoming Mann’s trial earns the Royal Guard Suit. This is a separate reward condition from clearing the original 19-boss set.
Availability and roster context
The original Boss Challenge announcement described the mode’s PS5 availability with the May 24, 2024 update. The later PC announcement set Stellar Blade’s PC release for June 11, 2025, and said the additional PC content was also made available on PS5 through a patch; it specifically confirmed Mann’s Boss Challenge trial.

The 19-boss figure refers to the base-game bosses in the original mode announcement, not a verified current total after later additions. The announcements do not provide a complete post-update roster or current menu-by-menu navigation, so use the in-game Boss Challenge list to see which fights are available on your version.
