You buy the license for that tier, talk to the exam proctor, pick a unit and a target class, and take the exam. Once a unit has certified in a class, switching between that unit’s certified classes costs nothing. This guide covers where to go, what gates each tier, how the pass chance works, and what a failed exam costs you.
One limit up front: the available guides describe the system well but are secondary reporting, not official documentation. They don’t give a complete, verified requirement list for every individual class. The in-game requirements screen is the final word for a given unit and class.

Step-by-step: unlocking a class
1. Find the proctor and license vendor in Dagsion
Head to Dagsion’s Temple district. According to How To Video Game’s class-change walkthrough (2026), the license vendor and certification proctor are together in Hightown. The proctor’s menu is where you choose the unit and the exam. TechRadar’s September 2026 review of the Nintendo Switch 2 game also notes that Dagsion has a class-exam area and weapon training facilities.

2. Read the requirements and the pass chance
Select the class you want before committing. The exam screen shows a pass chance from 0% to 100%, the relevant skill ranks, and an “ideal level.” Treat the ideal level as a readiness guide. The guides don’t describe it as a hard requirement, so only treat it as a gate if the game labels it that way.
#1 Best Overall
- Enter the Dagdan Empire—a prosperous land ruled by the gods—and compete in the Heroic Games for the chance to be granted one wish
- Play as four heroes competing in the Heroic Games whose fortunes are tied to the fate of the world
- Prepare for each match of the Heroic Games by exploring Dagda and its capital city of Dagsion
- Learn skills at the training grounds, recruit allies and build bonds of friendship, and explore beyond Dagsion’s walls to gain experience
- Use everything you have at your disposal, including your heroes’ special abilities, to turn the tide of battle
3. Meet the progression gate and get the license
Classes are split into five tiers: Beginner, Specialty, Advanced, Master and Divine. Access opens as you progress, and the license you need depends on the tier.
4. Train the right skills
The unit’s weapon or magic skill ranks feed into the displayed chance. Train the class’s relevant primary and secondary skills first, using Dagsion’s training facilities or normal battles, and watch the percentage rise.
Rank #2
- Reawaken as a Divine Dragon and take down a thousand-year-old threat
- Take on turn-based, tactical combat and use Emblem Rings to customize your strategy
- Collect Emblem Rings and use them to summon heroes from past Fire EmblemTM games
- Fire EmblemTM Engage launches on January 20, 2023 alongside Fire Emblem Engage: Divine Edition featuring a steelbook case and art book
5. Take the exam
Go ahead when the percentage is one you’re comfortable with. The license is reportedly consumed whether you pass or fail. A failed unit can try again after improving, but you’ll need another license, so don’t gamble on a low chance.
Tier-by-tier unlock guide
This table summarises what the guides report. It isn’t an official class database, and sources disagree on some details.
Rank #3
- Command Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters like Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude in epic real-time battles
- Play through three distinct storylines set in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses universe, each with a different ending, from the point of view of a new protagonist, Shez.
- Combine the action-packed Warriors-style gameplay with the strategy and style of the Fire Emblem series
- Fight through hordes of enemies with Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters and their distinct abilities
- Use Fire Emblem series mechanics like the weapons triangle, character classes, crests, and battalions to tailor your strategy
| Tier | Reported progression gate | Suggested ideal level | Caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Early Part I; sources disagree on whether exams are open at the start or shortly after reaching Dagsion | 5 | Check the in-game tutorial timing |
| Specialty | Renown 4, during Part I | 20 | Class-specific skill requirements still apply |
| Advanced | Renown 8; some classes also need quests | 35 | Routes differ for some named classes |
| Master | Part III; some classes reportedly need extra temple or quest steps | 45 | Not every class follows the same temple gate |
| Divine | Part III; unique class items or keys reported | None stated | Exceptions to the ordinary license system |
The ideal levels and Renown gates come from How To Video Game (2026). Pocket Tactics corroborates the Specialty and Advanced Renown gates.
Classes with their own unlock routes
Renown doesn’t open every class. Pocket Tactics lists class-specific quest routes for examples including Dancer, Blacksmith, Ranger, Dragoon, Caladrius and Troubadour. Details of these routes conflict in places between guides, so treat them as guide-reported and confirm in the class requirement screen. If a class you want is greyed out despite enough Renown, a quest, story chapter, temple restoration or special item is the likely missing piece.

How to change classes
After a unit has certified in a class, switching among its certified classes is free. The guide reports these places where you can reclass:
- At the proctor in Dagsion
- From the Base Menu during Free Time
- During Battle Preparation
Reclassing is reportedly unavailable on the world map and inside dungeons, so make the change before you leave.

Choosing which class to certify
No source supports a single best class, so decide using these checks:
- Does the unit already have the weapon or magic ranks the class needs?
- What is the pass chance, given that a license is spent on a failure?
- Is the class gated by Renown, story progress, a quest, a temple or an item?
- Does it fit the unit’s battlefield role? Check class-specific abilities in the game.
- Is it already certified? If so, switching is free.
Nothing beyond the game itself is needed to do any of this.
