Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteOn a personal Windows 10 or 11 PC, uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere through Windows’ installed-program list: search for appwiz.cpl, open it, select Webroot SecureAnywhere, and click Uninstall. On a Mac, open SecureAnywhere and use Webroot SecureAnywhere → About SecureAnywhere → Uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere. Confirm the prompts on either platform.
A complete consumer uninstall means the supported uninstaller finishes and the application is no longer installed. It does not mean deleting every Webroot folder or driver by hand. Business-managed installations, forgotten uninstall passwords, missing program-list entries and failed Mac removals follow different paths described below. No paid utility, replacement accessory or physical product is needed for the documented process.

Choose the correct removal route first
The platform and license type determine the safe procedure. Use this table before changing anything:
| Situation | Recommended path | Escalate when |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 10/11 personal installation | appwiz.cpl → Webroot SecureAnywhere → Uninstall |
The entry is still absent after refreshing, or Windows says SecureAnywhere is managed by the Web Console. Webroot’s Windows instructions |
| Mac | SecureAnywhere → About SecureAnywhere → Uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere | The in-app uninstaller fails. Webroot’s Mac instructions |
| Business-managed endpoint | Follow your organization’s Webroot or OpenText console and administrator procedure | A policy blocks local changes, or the device record also needs to be removed. Managed endpoint guidance |
| Forgotten uninstall password | Use Webroot’s Safe Mode procedure for the applicable Windows version | The version-specific steps do not work. Password-protection support article |
Do not start by deleting the installation directory, stopping services or removing drivers. Those actions can leave a partially removed security agent and are not Webroot’s normal consumer instructions.

What “completely” means here
For an ordinary personal installation, “completely” means the official uninstaller has run to completion and the product is no longer installed or listed as an installed program. It does not require a forensic search for every historical file name, driver or registry value. Webroot’s consumer instructions do not tell every user to remove those items manually.
There are two reasons not to treat visible leftovers as proof of failure. First, a shortcut or cached item can remain after the application itself has been removed. Second, security software may protect components while its uninstaller is running. Manual deletion can therefore create a less clean result than using the supported removal flow. Managed endpoint cleanup is the exception and is covered separately below.
Uninstall Webroot on Windows 10 or Windows 11
1. Open the installed-program list
- Search near the Start button for
appwiz.cpl. - Open the result. Windows will display the classic Programs and Features list.
This route is the current consumer procedure supplied by Webroot for Windows 10 and 11; you do not need a separate cleanup utility or a paid uninstaller.
2. Start the Webroot uninstaller
- Find and select Webroot SecureAnywhere in the list.
- Click Uninstall at the top of the list, or right-click the entry and choose Uninstall.
- Accept the confirmation prompts. If Webroot displays characters that must be entered, type them exactly as shown and continue.
Read each prompt rather than canceling as soon as the first window closes. Allow the process to finish before trying to delete folders or install another security product. Closing the window partway through can leave the software registered as installed.
3. Confirm that Windows no longer lists it
- Return to the installed-program list and refresh it.
- Verify that Webroot SecureAnywhere is no longer listed.
If the entry disappears, the documented consumer uninstall has completed. Webroot does not state that every completed uninstall requires an immediate reboot. When you are removing it to troubleshoot another problem, restart and test that problem before reinstalling anything. Webroot separately says a reboot is required when reinstalling, so do not turn that reinstallation instruction into a blanket claim that every uninstall needs a restart.
Windows decision points
If you see the product in the list and no management warning, stay with the standard flow. If the line is missing, refresh once and search again. If Windows says SecureAnywhere is managed by the Web Console, stop and use the business path rather than repeatedly trying the consumer uninstaller. These messages identify different situations and need different remedies.
Uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere on a Mac
Use the application’s own uninstall control
- Open Webroot SecureAnywhere.
- In the macOS menu bar, open the Webroot SecureAnywhere menu at the top left.
- Choose About SecureAnywhere.
- Click Uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere.
- Choose Yes when SecureAnywhere asks you to confirm.
Dragging the application to Trash by itself is not Webroot’s recommended removal method. The in-app control removes the security product through its supported uninstaller, so use it while SecureAnywhere can still be opened.

Remove a leftover Dock shortcut
If SecureAnywhere was pinned to the Dock, drag that Dock icon to Trash after the uninstall. This removes the shortcut; it is separate from uninstalling the application itself. A Dock icon that remains is not, by itself, evidence that the security application is still installed.
If the Mac procedure does not work
Webroot’s published page is titled “Uninstall on a mac OS Big Sur.” Its menu names and button are the authoritative instructions for that procedure, but the page does not establish that every later macOS release presents exactly the same interface. If the menu or uninstall button is missing, or the process fails, contact Webroot Support rather than deleting system files manually.
Cost, tools and preparation
The documented removal routes use tools already included with Windows, macOS or SecureAnywhere. Windows users open appwiz.cpl; Mac users use the product’s own menu. There is no stated need to buy a cleanup program, download a driver-removal tool or purchase hardware.
Before starting, identify whether the computer is personal or controlled by an employer or other organization. A management message, company-owned device or Web Console policy means the administrator’s process takes priority. Also note whether the problem is a forgotten uninstall password, a missing Windows entry or a failed Mac menu; each condition has its own escalation route. Avoid improvising with registry edits or driver deletion simply because another security product is waiting to be installed.
When the normal Windows uninstall is blocked
The program is not in the list
Refresh the Programs and Features list once and search again for Webroot SecureAnywhere. If it remains absent, Webroot directs users to open a support ticket. An absent entry can mean the installation is damaged or was removed incompletely; deleting random remaining files will not recreate the supported uninstall record.
Do not substitute a generic “remove all folders” checklist for support’s diagnosis. The right next step depends on why the registration is missing and which product version is present.
Windows says SecureAnywhere is managed by the Web Console
A message that SecureAnywhere is managed by the Web Console and that changes must be applied centrally indicates a business license or managed endpoint. Stop using the personal-PC steps. Ask the organization’s Webroot/OpenText administrator to remove the agent through the applicable console or endpoint policy. Local attempts to bypass that control can conflict with company security policy and may leave the device inventory out of sync.

An uninstall password was forgotten
Webroot documents a Safe Mode route for installations protected by a forgotten uninstall password. The support article includes legacy Windows flows, so use the instructions that match the installed Windows version:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Open the password-protection support article and identify the Safe Mode instructions for your version of Windows.
- Start Windows in Safe Mode as directed.
- Run the normal Webroot or Windows uninstall route while in Safe Mode.
- Restart Windows normally and check whether SecureAnywhere is gone.
If the version-specific Safe Mode steps do not match your system or the uninstall still fails, contact Webroot Support instead of guessing at registry or driver changes. Safe Mode is a supported troubleshooting route in this password scenario; it is not a reason to delete product files manually on every installation.
A legacy manual command appears in older support material
An older Webroot troubleshooting page describes running WRSA.exe -uninstall from the product folder when Control Panel removal is unavailable. That is legacy-oriented guidance for a specialized scenario, not a replacement for the current Windows 10/11 procedure. Before using a command on a modern installation, ask Webroot Support to confirm that it applies to your build and situation. The older example appears in this Webroot troubleshooting article.
Business-managed endpoint removal is different
Managed installations may be controlled from a Webroot or OpenText Core Endpoint Protection console. The administrator may need to remove the agent locally, remove the device from the management inventory, or perform both actions. A local uninstall alone does not necessarily remove the device record.
What the managed cleanup guidance says
Current managed-endpoint material says administrators may need to remove WRData and WRCore from the hidden %PROGRAMDATA% directory if those folders remain, then restart the computer. Other installation locations can apply. These are administrator-directed cleanup steps for managed agents, not a checklist for every personal SecureAnywhere installation.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the organization’s documented console procedure first. If the policy blocks removal or the agent remains after the approved process, follow the OpenText Core Endpoint Protection removal guidance or ask the administrator to contact support. If the organization also needs its device inventory corrected, confirm that separately rather than assuming local file removal handles it.
Should you delete leftover Webroot files?
For a consumer Windows or Mac uninstall, no routine manual deletion is required by the official steps. Do not remove folders, services, drivers or registry entries merely because you can still see a Webroot-named item immediately after clicking Uninstall. Security software can use protected components, and deleting the wrong file can create startup errors or interfere with another security product.

Only use the WRData and WRCore cleanup described above when you are working on a managed endpoint and the administrator’s procedure calls for it. The Japanese managed-endpoint material also lists additional product and driver paths, but those localized instructions should not be generalized to consumer SecureAnywhere installations.
Older Windows versions
Webroot publishes a separate procedure for Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows XP. It also states that Windows XP and Windows 7 are no longer supported. On those systems, the broad flow is still to open appwiz.cpl, select Webroot SecureAnywhere and choose Uninstall, but use the version-specific directions rather than assuming current Windows 10/11 behavior.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRead Webroot’s Windows 8 and older article for the applicable legacy prompts. If an old system cannot complete removal, support may have fewer options because the operating system itself is outside support. Do not describe XP or Windows 7 as currently supported merely because an older uninstall article exists.
How to verify a complete consumer uninstall
Use the checks appropriate to your platform:
- Windows: Programs and Features no longer contains Webroot SecureAnywhere after a refresh.
- Mac: the in-app uninstall confirmation has completed, and the SecureAnywhere application is no longer installed. Remove only the separate Dock shortcut if it remains.
- Either platform: do not reinstall or add another security product until the uninstall has finished. If you removed Webroot for troubleshooting, restart and test the original issue before reinstalling.
- Managed device: confirm with the administrator whether the endpoint agent and its console device record both need to be removed.
These checks establish that the supported removal flow completed. They do not require a forensic search for every historical Webroot-named file. If a support technician gives additional verification steps for a particular build, follow those steps rather than applying a generic cleanup recipe.
Quick decision guide
Use the standard Windows route when
You own or personally manage a Windows 10 or 11 computer, SecureAnywhere appears in the installed-program list, and no management-policy message is shown. Use appwiz.cpl, select the product, confirm the prompts, and refresh the list.
Use the standard Mac route when
You can open SecureAnywhere and its About SecureAnywhere menu contains Uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere. Complete the in-app confirmation, then remove a Dock shortcut separately if necessary.
Stop and escalate when
- The Windows entry stays missing after a refresh.
- Windows reports that the product is managed by the Web Console.
- A password-protected uninstall cannot be completed with the applicable Safe Mode instructions.
- The Mac in-app uninstaller fails or the expected menu is unavailable.
In each case, the relevant Webroot support page or your organization’s administrator is safer than improvised file, service or registry removal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to restart after uninstalling Webroot SecureAnywhere?
Webroot does not state that every completed consumer uninstall requires an immediate restart. If you removed it to troubleshoot a problem, restart and test that problem before reinstalling. Webroot separately requires a reboot when reinstalling.
Can I uninstall Webroot by dragging it to the Mac Trash?
No. Webroot’s recommended Mac method is to open SecureAnywhere, choose Webroot SecureAnywhere → About SecureAnywhere, click Uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere and confirm Yes. Remove a Dock shortcut separately afterward if needed.
What if Webroot is missing from Windows Programs and Features?
Refresh the list and search again. If Webroot SecureAnywhere is still absent, Webroot directs you to open a support ticket rather than delete random remaining files.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why does Windows say SecureAnywhere is managed by the Web Console?
That message indicates a business-managed installation. Ask your organization’s Webroot or OpenText administrator to perform the approved console or endpoint removal; do not try to bypass the policy with consumer instructions.
What if I forgot the Webroot uninstall password?
Webroot documents starting Windows in Safe Mode and then using the normal product or Windows uninstall route. Use the instructions for your Windows version, and contact support if they do not work.
Should I delete WRData or WRCore after uninstalling?
Only when an administrator is removing a managed endpoint and the applicable OpenText/Webroot procedure calls for it. Those folders are not a routine cleanup checklist for personal consumer installations.
Is the WRSA.exe -uninstall command safe to use on Windows 10 or 11?
An older Webroot page documents that command for a specialized situation when Control Panel removal is unavailable. It is not the current standard procedure. Ask Webroot Support to confirm that it applies to your installation before using it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Do I need a paid cleanup utility to remove SecureAnywhere?
No. The documented consumer routes use Windows’ built-in Programs and Features list or SecureAnywhere’s own Mac uninstall control.
The Bottom Line
For a personal Windows 10 or 11 computer, use appwiz.cpl, select Webroot SecureAnywhere, choose Uninstall, complete the prompts and refresh the list. On a Mac, use Webroot SecureAnywhere → About SecureAnywhere → Uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere, then remove any separate Dock shortcut. Do not manually delete security files unless an administrator-directed managed-endpoint procedure requires it. Missing entries, management policies, forgotten passwords and failed Mac removals should go to Webroot Support or your organization’s administrator.
