The usual path is Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb, though labels and screens vary by Galaxy model and software version.
Turn on Do not disturb

Open Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb. If the menu is different, search Settings for “Do not disturb.” Samsung also documents opening Quick settings and touching and holding the Do not disturb icon to reach its settings. The Quick settings tile itself toggles the mode on or off.

Choose who can call you
In Do not disturb settings, open Allowed during Do not disturb > Calls and messages. Choose the caller exception that fits how you handle urgent calls:

Allow selected or favorite contacts
Select the contacts you want to be able to reach you. Samsung also documents using favorite contacts as an allowed-call choice, so calls from numbers saved as favorites can get through. This works well when important callers are already saved in your contacts.
Allow repeat callers
Enable the repeat-caller exception if you want a caller who tries again to be able to reach you. It can provide a route for someone whose number is not saved, while selected-contact exceptions cover people you have identified in advance. You can choose either approach or both, depending on your needs.

Keep alarms or chosen alerts, and mute the rest
Review the other options under Allowed during Do not disturb. Samsung’s US guide lists app notifications and alarms and sounds, with sound choices including alarms, media, touch sounds, calendar events, and reminders. Allow the exceptions you still need, then leave routine alerts muted. The available choices may vary by device.

Schedule recurring quiet hours

In Do not disturb settings, select Add schedule. Some devices instead show Turn on as scheduled and then an add control.

Enter a schedule name and set the quiet-time preferences shown on your phone.

Save the schedule and make sure it is switched on. Samsung says Galaxy phones can have multiple schedules, so you can set up separate recurring periods if needed.

Schedules determine when Do not disturb runs; call exceptions determine who can reach you while it is active. Check both if the quiet period behaves differently from what you expect.

If a call still rings

Check whether the caller is included in your allowed contacts or favorites.

Check whether repeat callers are allowed. A caller who meets that exception may ring through even if you did not select the person as a contact.

If the call is not explained by those exceptions, review sound and vibration settings and the ringtone behavior for that individual contact. Samsung includes these checks in its troubleshooting guide for a Galaxy phone that rings while set to vibrate or mute.

Why your Galaxy menus may look different
Samsung cautions that screens, settings, and steps vary by model and software version; regional support pages may also reflect different product locations. The route above is a common one, not a guarantee that every Galaxy has identical labels or options. If you cannot find a control, search Settings for “Do not disturb” or consult the user manual for your exact model. Samsung’s Hong Kong guide was updated February 4, 2026; the available behavior is not established here for every carrier, country, and Galaxy release.
