In the Windows Features dialog, check a component to enable it or clear its checkbox to disable it, then select OK. Let Windows apply the change and restart if prompted.

Open Start and type Windows features or Turn Windows features on or off.

Select the matching Turn Windows features on or off Control Panel result.

Wait for the Windows Features dialog to load its list.

Microsoft documents this search route for Windows 11 and Windows 10 in its Virtualization on Windows instructions. The items available in the dialog can vary by Windows version, edition, and installation.
Enable or disable a feature

Find the component you want to change in the Windows Features list.

Select its checkbox to enable it, or clear the checkbox to disable it. If a checkbox appears partially selected, Windows may have only some subcomponents enabled.

Select OK and let Windows apply the change. Restart the PC if Windows requests it.

For example, Microsoft’s Windows 11 and Windows 10 virtualization instructions say to select Virtual Machine Platform in this dialog, select OK, and restart if required; Microsoft notes, “You might need to restart your PC.”
If the feature is missing from the list

Check which Windows version and edition is installed. Some components are edition-specific, and the Windows Features list is not identical on every installation.

If the PC is managed by an organization, an administrator may control which components are available.

Some capabilities are installed separately through Settings > Apps > Optional features, rather than through the classic Windows Features dialog. Use the instructions for the specific component.

One example is the Media Feature Pack: Microsoft identifies it as an Optional Feature for Windows 10 N and Windows 11 N. Its installation route depends on the OS version, and Microsoft says a restart is required to complete installation even if Windows does not prompt for one. Administrators can manage optional features with the PowerShell cmdlets Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature and Disable-WindowsOptionalFeature. The feature name depends on the component and Windows image, so do not assume a name from an unrelated example will work on your system. Consult Microsoft’s Windows feature management guidance and the Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature reference for the specific feature and usage.
Windows Features is not the same as other Windows controls
The Windows Features dialog manages operating-system components. It is separate from privacy settings, startup-app controls, and the Settings page for separately installable Optional Features. If a component is not listed in the dialog, check its own Microsoft installation instructions rather than treating the absence as proof that it is unavailable in every edition.
