Turn haptic feedback on or off
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices, then Touchpad.
- Find Haptic signals and switch the control on or off.
Microsoft documents the setting path as Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse, Touchpad, or Pen > Haptic signals. Depending on your device and Windows release, the category may be shown as Touchpad or within the listed input-device categories. Microsoft’s KB5083631 release notes state that these signals can be turned on or off there.

What the setting does
Haptic signals are tactile effects produced by compatible input hardware during supported actions. Microsoft gives examples such as aligning objects in PowerPoint and snapping or resizing windows. This is different from ordinary touchpad gestures and from the control that enables or disables the touchpad itself.

If “Haptic signals” is missing
The option is compatibility-dependent, so its absence does not by itself indicate a broken touchpad. Microsoft introduced the feature in its April 30, 2026 non-security preview update, KB5083631, for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. That release note does not establish a universal minimum build for touchpad haptics or say that every eligible PC receives the option at the same time.

The note names Surface Slim Pen 2, ASUS Pen 3.0, and MSI Pen 2 as supported devices for the haptic experience; this is not a complete list of supported touchpad models. Microsoft says support for additional devices, including select mice, may become available as hardware partners release updates. Check whether your device and its current software support haptics; the release note does not provide an exhaustive model-by-model compatibility list.
