On a supported Samsung Galaxy phone, turn on Data Saver at Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver > Turn on now. It limits some apps’ background mobile-data activity; it does not switch mobile data off. You can allow selected apps to keep using data while Data Saver is active.
What Samsung Data Saver does
Samsung says Data Saver prevents some apps from sending or receiving data in the background. That can reduce background mobile-data use, but apps may update or sync less often until you open them. It is not a control for turning off all mobile data, and Samsung does not specify a guaranteed savings amount or percentage.

Turn Data Saver on
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections, then Data usage.
- Tap Data saver.
- Switch on Turn on now.
This is Samsung’s common route, documented for Galaxy devices including the Z Fold6. Names and locations can vary by model, software version, region, and connection state. See Samsung US’s Data Saver instructions and the Galaxy Z Fold6 user manual for device-specific guidance.

Allow essential apps to use data in the background
Data Saver may delay background activity for apps you rely on. Samsung gives Facebook notifications as an example: they may be delayed or absent until you open the app. Add an app to the exception list if it needs background access while Data Saver is on.

- Go to Settings > Connections > Data usage > Data saver.
- Open the allowed-apps list. Depending on the software, its label may be Allowed to use data while Data saver is on or Apps that can always use data.
- Turn on the switch beside each app you want to exempt.
Some versions also offer an app-level setting at Settings > Apps > [app] > Mobile data; enable Allow app while Data saver on if shown. Samsung’s UK support instructions describe the available mobile-data controls.
Check which apps use mobile data
To identify high-usage apps, open Settings > Connections > Data usage > Mobile data usage. For an individual app, review its mobile-data controls and the Allow background data usage setting. Disabling that setting targets the selected app rather than applying Data Saver’s broader background restriction.

Samsung also documents Billing cycle and data warning under Data usage. Set the phone’s billing-cycle start and warning or limit to match your plan where those options are available. The phone’s usage display is an estimate for managing device use; check your carrier account for the plan’s actual allowance. Samsung does not set your plan allowance. Confirm that amount and your billing-cycle dates with your carrier, then use the phone’s usage view as a companion monitor. The options available on the phone can depend on SIM, network, and carrier support.

If Data Saver is missing or an app still uses data
- The Data Saver menu is absent: Check that a SIM is active and the phone has a mobile-network connection. Samsung says the option may not be available without an active SIM or mobile connection, or when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi only.
- An app continues background activity: Check whether it is on Data Saver’s allowed-app list, then review that app’s own Mobile data settings.
- Notifications or refresh are delayed: Add the app as an exception if timely background activity matters, or review its background-data control.
- Menu labels do not match: Consult the support page or manual for your exact Galaxy model and software; Samsung notes that menus and screenshots can differ.
