How to Turn On and Use PSSR on PS5 Pro

Enable Enhance PSSR Image Quality in PS5 Pro Video Output settings, then use it with a compatible game. Learn what the option does and how to troubleshoot visual effects.

On a PS5 Pro, go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony says the option is on by default and is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. It affects certain PSSR-compatible games, not every game; what you see depends on each title.

Check that your console supports the setting

Sony lists Enhance PSSR Image Quality for consoles in the CFI-7000 model group—the PS5 Pro hardware family. It is not a setting available on every PS5. See Sony’s PS5 resolution and video-output instructions for the model-group limitation.

Find the PSSR image-quality option

  1. From the PS5 Pro home screen, open Settings.
  2. Select Screen and Video, then Video Output.
  3. Choose Enhance PSSR Image Quality. Sony says it is on by default; if it is already enabled, no change is needed.

The toggle is a system-level option for certain games that already support PSSR. Turning it on does not add PSSR to unsupported games or guarantee the same image change in every supported title. Sony documents the path and scope on its support page.

What PSSR changes—and what it does not promise

PSSR means PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as an AI library that analyzes game images pixel by pixel while upscaling them. The upgraded version is intended to improve image stability and clarity in fine detail, but the outcome depends on how a game supports and implements the technology. It is not a universal promise of a particular output resolution, higher frame rate, or improvement in every scene.

PlayStation 5 Pro with 2TB SSD Storage, Console Only - PS5 Pro Gaming System, White (Renewed)
  • Ray Tracing - Immerse yourself in worlds with a new level of realism as rays of light are individually simulated, creating true-to-life shadows and reflections in supported PS5 games.
  • Faster Loading - Fast-travel across the map and get back into the game almost instantly with the PlayStation 5 console’s ultra-high-speed SSD and fast load times.
  • Stunning Visuals - Experience the vast world in stunning 4K and HDR at 120 FPS (with a 4K and HDR compatible TV or display)
  • Breathtaking Immersion - Discover a deeper gaming experience with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D Audio technology.
  • Backwards Compatibility - Play over 4,000 PS4 games on PS5. Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in some of the PS4 console's greatest games.

There are two related layers: a game must support PSSR, and the system-level Enhance PSSR Image Quality option can apply to certain compatible games. Developers can also integrate or update PSSR support in individual titles. Sony said on March 16, 2026, that upgraded PSSR was fully integrated with the system software update and that the option could be applied to PS5 Pro games already supporting PSSR. Sony also said it expected most new PS5 Pro titles to launch with support; that is a forward-looking expectation, not a guarantee for any particular release. Read Sony’s March 16, 2026 announcement for its description.

Check the effect in a compatible game

  1. Launch a game that supports PSSR; the presence of the console setting alone does not establish that a game uses it.
  2. Compare the image in motion and in scenes with fine detail, such as foliage, thin edges, or distant textures. This is a practical visual check, not a standardized test; results can differ by game and scene.
  3. Check for game updates if you expect support but do not see it. Developers may add or revise PSSR through patches.

Sony’s February 27, 2026 explanation said PSSR had been used to boost effective resolution in over 50 PS5 Pro titles at that time. That dated figure is not a current count. Mark Cerny, PS5 and PS5 Pro lead architect, explained the technology in Sony’s February 27, 2026 PlayStation.Blog post.

Turn it off if you see unexpected visual effects

If a compatible game displays unexpected visual effects, return to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Enhance PSSR Image Quality and switch the option off. Reopen or revisit the same scene and compare. Sony specifically recommends disabling the option when such effects appear; the choice can be made per your preference rather than treating the setting as a required improvement.
