If your Galaxy S6 is switched off and its power button is broken, first connect it to a charger, then try the Volume Down workaround described in an iFixit guide. It is an unofficial procedure, not a Samsung-certified fix, and it may not work. If the phone still will not start or charge, stop repeating button combinations and arrange a hardware assessment.
Before you try to start the phone
Use an undamaged charger and cable that you know work. Check the phone, charger and cable for visible damage, and make sure the cable is firmly connected. A deeply discharged Galaxy may take time to show a charging indicator; Samsung’s general Galaxy guidance does not specify a guaranteed wait time for the S6. Try the Volume Down workaround
The following sequence comes from iFixit’s guide for powering on a device with a broken power button. The guide is not Samsung documentation and does not report a success rate, so treat it as a low-risk attempt rather than a guaranteed fix.

- Connect the Galaxy S6 to power. Leave it connected to the charger.
- If it does not appear to charge, hold Volume Down for 10 seconds. This is the first button step given in the iFixit guide.
- Let the phone charge to at least 10%, if possible. The guide specifies this charge level before its startup attempt.
- Unplug the phone, then hold Volume Down for 10 seconds. This is the guide’s reported startup workaround. If the screen remains dark or the phone does not respond, do not keep cycling through combinations.

Why the usual Samsung reboot shortcut is different
Samsung’s general soft-reboot advice uses the Power/Side button together with Volume Down. It is meant for a phone that is frozen while the buttons work; it cannot independently start a powered-off S6 when its power button has failed. If the Galaxy S6 remains off
A dark screen or lack of a charging icon does not establish that the power button is the only fault. The charger, cable, charging port, battery, or other hardware may be involved. Recheck the connections and visible condition without probing the port; if the phone still will not charge or respond, request service from Samsung or a qualified repair professional, as Samsung advises.
A replacement power-button cable or power-and-volume-button assembly is available for the Galaxy S6, but replacing it is not a simple external-button swap. iFixit’s repair guide describes substantial internal disassembly and removal of rear glass whose adhesive is destroyed in the process. Neither the startup attempt nor a hardware assessment inherently requires a factory reset. Do not reset the phone as a way to address a failed physical power button; Samsung warns that a reset erases data.
