A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To stop notifications appearing on your Windows 11 lock screen while keeping Widgets, turn off Show notifications on the lock screen in Settings > System > Notifications. Then check that Widgets is still on under Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. These are separate controls, so you do not need to disable notifications across Windows or hide Widgets.
Turn off notifications on the lock screen
- Open Settings and go to System > Notifications. If the setting is hard to find, search Settings for “notifications.”
- Turn off Show notifications on the lock screen.
- To confirm Widgets remain available, open Settings > Personalization > Lock screen and leave Widgets turned on.
Microsoft documents lock-screen notification visibility and lock-screen Widgets in separate Settings areas. Disabling the notification display setting affects where notifications appear; it does not switch off Windows notifications altogether. Microsoft’s Windows notification guidance and lock-screen customization instructions describe these controls.

Choose the setting that matches what you want to hide
| Setting or feature | What it changes | Use it for this goal? |
|---|---|---|
| Show notifications on the lock screen | Whether notifications are displayed on the lock screen. | Yes. Turn it off to stop lock-screen notifications. |
| Hide content when notifications are on lock screen | Conceals notification contents while notification indications may still appear. | No. This is a privacy option, not a way to remove lock-screen notifications. |
| Master notifications switch | Controls notifications more broadly across Windows. | No. Leave it alone if you only want to change the lock screen. |
| Per-app notification settings | Controls notifications from an individual sender or app. | Only if you want to change that app’s notifications, not lock-screen visibility for notifications generally. |
| Lock-screen Widgets toggle | Shows or hides Widgets on the lock screen. | Keep it on to retain Widgets. |
| Widgets board notification settings | Controls items such as badges and dashboard notifications in the Widgets board. | Only if you mean Widgets announcements or dashboard alerts rather than Windows lock-screen notifications. |
Keep Widgets visible and manage their contents
In Settings > Personalization > Lock screen, leave the Widgets toggle on. Microsoft says switching Widgets off hides them; the same page lets you manage which Widgets appear and their options. Microsoft’s lock-screen guide covers the list and per-Widget settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Those controls are separate from whether Widgets appear on the lock screen. See Microsoft’s Widgets guidance.

If the setting is unavailable on a work or school PC
An organization can manage Windows behavior through policy, so a work or school device may not let you change the setting yourself. Microsoft documents a policy for lock-screen toast notifications on specified business editions. Its policy reference for disabling lock-screen Widgets is marked for Windows Insider Preview, so it should not be treated as a routine consumer fix or assumed to apply to every Windows installation. Administrators should check the policy’s edition and build applicability before relying on it: Microsoft Learn: Experience policy settings and Microsoft Learn: Notifications policy settings.
