You can silence every notification from a Samsung app or change the sound for just one type of alert. For category-level controls, open Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings and enable Manage notification categories for each app if it is off. Then go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications, select the app, and open Notification categories. The exact labels and options depend on your Galaxy software version and the app.
Turn off every notification from an app
To block all notifications from one app, open Settings > Notifications > App notifications, choose the app, and switch off Allow notifications. Samsung also documents an app-settings route: Settings > Apps > [app] > Notifications. Menu names and paths can vary by device and software version. This app-wide switch is different from turning off a category: it stops notifications from the whole app, rather than only one kind of alert.

Silence only selected notification types
- Open Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings.
- Turn on Manage notification categories for each app if the option is available and disabled.
- Return to Settings > Notifications > App notifications and select the app.
- Tap Notification categories, then switch off the category you no longer want to alert you.
Category names and availability are set by the app. Samsung notes that some apps do not have a Notification categories section, so you may not be able to silence only selected notification types through Galaxy settings. Samsung’s instructions explain the category controls.

Change the sound for one app or category
When the app exposes categories, open Settings > Notifications > App notifications > [app] > Notification categories, then select the category you want to customize. Make sure Allow notifications is on for that category and Alert is selected; then tap Sound and choose a tone. If the category is set to silent or notifications are disallowed, its sound control may not be available. Samsung’s One UI 7 guide documents category-level sound settings.
Not every app permits a custom sound in Galaxy settings. Some apps provide sound choices in their own settings instead; check the app if no sound option appears. Samsung notes that app notification options vary.

Use your own audio file
Samsung India’s guide says to place the audio file in the phone’s Notifications folder so it can appear among notification tones. Once it is available, choose it from the category’s Sound setting if that app and device support category sounds. Samsung India’s custom-sounds guide provides the steps; availability can vary by device and software version.

Why the menus may look different
Samsung documents app categories and category sounds in its One UI 7 guidance, while its One UI 8 guidance describes redesigned notification settings, including per-app controls for pop-ups and lock-screen content. That does not establish that One UI 8 is available on every Galaxy model. Check the software version installed on your device and use the labels shown there.
