If you want suggestions to stay visible but don’t want words automatically changed, turn off Auto replace instead. Samsung treats suggestions, automatic replacements, spelling checks, and grammar or phrase corrections as separate controls.
Find Samsung Keyboard’s predictive text setting
- Open Settings on your Galaxy device.
- Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Turn Predictive text on or off.
You can also open Samsung Keyboard settings by tapping its Settings icon while the keyboard is visible. If the labels or path differ, look under an older route such as Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard > Smart typing. Menu names, locations, and available options depend on the device and software version. Samsung UK notes that some predictive-text options are unavailable on older devices and operating systems.

“Autocorrect” can mean several different behaviors. Samsung separates them, so changing the matching control is usually better than turning everything off.

Samsung Support describes Auto replace as completing or replacing a word with “the word it thinks is the most likely for the sentence.” The distinction matters: turning off predictive text removes the suggestion feature, while turning off Auto replace targets unwanted automatic changes. Samsung Canada’s guidance is for devices sold in Canada using the default Samsung Keyboard; grammar and phrase options may not be available on every device or software version. Remove a word Samsung has learned
Delete one unwanted suggestion
When the unwanted word appears in the suggestion bar, press and hold it, then confirm its removal. The exact confirmation label can vary; Samsung Japan describes long-pressing the prediction and tapping delete.

Erase personalized predictions
To remove all learned predictions using Samsung UK’s current directions, go to Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Reset to default settings > Erase personalised predictions > Erase. Choose this only if you want the keyboard’s personalized predictions erased. Older versions may instead offer Clear personalised data.
Samsung says a word can be saved after you type it and press Space. Its UK instructions for predictive text and personalization cover the current menu route, individual suggestion removal, and resetting learned predictions.

Check the language and software version if a switch is missing
Available controls can vary with the Galaxy model, Android and One UI versions, region, and input language. Samsung Japan’s support article, updated 17 September 2026, gives a specific exception: for Japanese input on Android 16 and later, predictive text cannot be toggled on or off; Android 15 and earlier show the switch. This is a Japan-and-Japanese-input caveat, not a rule for every language or region. See Samsung Japan’s explanation of predictive text.
If a setting is missing, first confirm that Samsung Keyboard is active and check the available menu path for your software version. The keyboard’s Settings icon is an alternate route when the main Settings labels differ.
